The Bread Factory is a classroom activity and discussion that teaches students about business and economics in a fund, hands-on manner. Students participate in a simulated production process to observe diminishing marginal product and its relationship to marginal costs and the firm's supply curve. Extended class discussion, using results tabulated in an Excel spreadsheet, can further help students think through the business' income statement, fixed vs variable costs, and the principle of profit elimination in a competitive market.
