You left out the US and Australia.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the US accumulated a number of colonies, mostly in the Pacific and the Caribbean, including Hawaii, Alaska (before they were admitted to the Union as states), American Samoa after partitioning Samoa with Germany, the Philippines, Guam and Puerto Rico which they conquered from the Spanish in the Spanish-American war, the US Virgin Islands which as you mentioned were purchased from Denmark, and the Panama canal zone.
Australia obtained a number of League of Nations mandates after WW1, including Papua New Guinea and Nauru, and continues to control a number of outlying islands, such as Norfolk and Christmas Islands.

Glad to hear that Austria didn't succeed with becoming a colonial power, it'd be another stain on our country's reputation lol

It's not so that all those territories belonged to Denmark during the colonization period. Greenland and Iceland were placed under the norwegian king in 1261 and 1262 respectively, and when Norway and Denmark went into a union of having a common king in 1380. Greenland and Iceland followed with Norway into this union. While Denmark came to be the dominant party in the union, Norway continued to be it's own kingdom, but rather obligded to accept the danish king as king of Norway, too. This all changed during the napoleonic wars, when the king of Denmark-Norway signed the Treaty of Kiel in 1814, where he ceded the kingdom of Norway to Sweden. And this treaty specified only mainland Norway to exit the union with Denmark. Not much note was taken of this at the time, but when Denmark tried to put new taxes on Greenland in 1931, Norway claimed that Greenland and Iceland were still norwegian territories, and that caused the occupation of East Greenland. The international court in Hague ruled in favour of Denmark, citing the Kiel Treaty. So Norway ceded it's claim on the islands and withdrew.

I feel like italy should not be mentioned above denmark on a list like this, for technicality reasons - but i do agree it is the smallest of the established colonial nations.
Who knows, if we hadn't pee'd on sweden and englands cereal every chance we got, we might have been comparable to the dutch given the monopoly on the baltic trade.

Hmmm. I love this concept that European colonialism is the worst.

So, the Ottoman Empire colonised vast swathes of Europe, Africa & Asia. But we complain about the British … the Huns destroyed everything in their path between Mongolia and Europe … but we complain about the French.

The Indians complain about the British and yet the Mughal Empire was the RICHEST IN HISTORY. It conquered and stole things from everyone including Persia

Honestly, this is all revisionist bullshit. How about complaining about the period pre-European hegemony? Let’s see which vile bunch of dictators abused the world the most

A "colonial empire" is a group of territories controlled by a dominant nation, where the colonizing power establishes settlements and governs the local population, often exploiting their resources and culture to benefit the ruling country; essentially, a large collection of colonies under the rule of one nation, usually established through military conquest and used to extract economic advantages. What human Nation hasn't been colonial?
