The only one that can stop a bad sound engineer, is a good engineer to travel with
ОтветитьInformative, no-bullshit, to the point. Just great!
ОтветитьIn ear monitors are awesome, but bands take it too far in trying to make a show “perfect.” They have a click track, reminders of what part of the song they’re in, and on and on. You can tell when you’re at one of these shows because the performances start sounding sterilized. The musicians are listening to the click and for the instructions instead of each other. When you see a band that cut their teeth performing live and actually learning to become part of the whole instead of separately playing their lines to the click track, you feel the difference and the music feels immediate. It hits you. I get why it’s done… the big touring artists have a lot of money tied up in production and staff and it’s high risk, so they put on the training wheels and make sure the ride is safe. But as always, it’s at the expense of the consumer’s experience.
ОтветитьThanks for this. I learned A LOT. I'm just a fan in the crowd wondering how all this stuff works, and this really helped.
ОтветитьRespect to the sound engineers. I don't think the avg person has any idea how much work is involved in what you guys & girls do! Great video very detailed!
ОтветитьDo all of you have a mono mix?
Also is the volume loud enough? The pm1 is not an amplifier so curious if it is enough.
Can anyone back Adam up about the Sure SE215's? Besides this video, I haven't seen any negativity about them
ОтветитьDB25 looks like an old Parallel Port.... not Serial.... you dumb Bass player.... 😂 just kidding, excellent video thanks a lot !!
Ответитьthis video is so important for me, thank you so much!
Ответитьi never even thought about the sub $100 personal IEM setup, that sounds so perfect for my band right now because we are poor. We just got a small backing track setup/click track for our drummer so we can finally run backing tracks live and also be on time for the most part.
Ответитьthe split signal based alternative mix is a very thought out solution! although if the FOH mix happens to, hipotetically, give to much gain to the base, the interpteter can't adapt to such situation
ОтветитьNothing worse than a loud stage
ОтветитьThanks Very informative and well made video👍
ОтветитьGreat video! Thanks so very much. Do you ensure that box? Thinking of buying one for my interface and preamp for travel to Europe. I’m curious about international gear insurance.
Ответитьon a side note, you have some stunning basses
ОтветитьI build an IEM splitt rig for my band in Germany but for some reason those rigs are not that popular here and many house engineers get frightened when they read our techrider which explains the matter... "Ah, I have to repatch just for you?" is the most common complaint I hear...
ОтветитьThanks for the video, it was very informative. Rather than use expensive low-profile XLR cables, I used an 3" offset bracket to recess the mixer deeper into my rack. I know this video is over a year old, but could you explain specifically how the audio over ethernet sssnake let you down? What's their achilles' heel? Thanks.
ОтветитьClearly I'm gonna go with the 70$ option, but still a very useful video, thanks!
ОтветитьThank you for using British units. I effing love feet and pounds! The US will always be a colony haha 🌈
ОтветитьSound taking time to travel is a bitch across a football field. I played snare 3 out of the 4 years and trying to stay in line with just movement is definitely one of the more frustrating aspects of marching lol
Ответитьhuge fan of in-ear monitors. I like them enough I use them at home more than regular headphones.
ОтветитьI was wondering why you use db25 instead of LK snakes with 24 channels you would just have a single cable and most venue’s (at least where im from) have a LK plug in their house rack so you dont even need to plug any xlr’s separately
ОтветитьI gotta say, that setup looks great and every decision going into building it made sense every step of the way.
It's a shame it ends up costing 6k though, wowzers, but unreliable cheap gear is an issue, so you needed the upgrades.
I play in a tiny studio with friends in our little band, so I can just use one of these sticks and get an XLR from our little console.
I get to enjoy nicer band practice sessions, and I'll just dream about getting a big fancy wireless portable rig for some other day.
This is honestly one of the best videos I watched about IEMs
Ответитьoh my god this video is so useful. thank you!
ОтветитьThe fact that those 1U power conditioners are not dual voltage blows my mind. they take up so much space and they can't do dual voltage circuits??
ОтветитьGreat compact rack ideas!
ОтветитьBehringer reliability issues? I’m shocked.
ОтветитьBuddy sorry to say this.. but stage monitors are the best! In ear is totally crap!!
ОтветитьI have major pitch issues when i sing with both in ear monitors does can anyone explain why this happens?
ОтветитьOh, when you called the rig "flyable" I thought you meant it was configured so that you could fly it above the stage with some rigging (in case e.g. you don't have enough real estate to set it up on the stage itself).
ОтветитьHey Adam, isn't it easier to use sound systems like the Behringer X-Air or the Soundcraft Ui-types??
Ответитьmy first and honest reaction to that input list (as a hobby sound engineer bc hey i do this voluntarily) HUH WHAT the huh the hfffffffffffffffffck heh frantically checking if im seeing it right figureing out that im in fact not trippin welp oki this is fine i wont complain just a bit unusual thats all
ОтветитьNeat video. When does the Ebook come out?
ОтветитьGot fitted for my inner ear implant monitors last week. Can't wait!
ОтветитьMan, if I knowed that you came to Spain a couple years ago I would take the chance to go to see your band. Do you have any plans for another EU tour?
Ответитьno talkback?
ОтветитьIm late but if you don't like your wires, you can always buy another one and they are very cheap. Unless your iem is not detachable
ОтветитьGreat video! One question I have, as I research to get my first IEMs...sound profile. I've seen a lot of different IEMs, many of which have a V-profile. But as a guitarist, would I be better served to have a more balanced sound to my IEMS? Would that allow me to hear the 2 guitars, bass, drums and vox better, without having strong emphasis in one area or the other? I'm trying to figure out if something like the Truthear Hexa would be a good starting point for me, or move to something where there is a stronger emphasis on bass or highs, etc.
ОтветитьWhat do you think about the behringer p1 instead of the pm1? Is having a stereo option worth the upgrade?
ОтветитьI am just getting into in-ears and your video was very helpful!
ОтветитьThank you for making this. It really demystified a lot of the subject matter for me and wasn’t too specialized. I’m in a bluegrass/acoustic band that uses condenser mics on stage and I’m grateful that we’re finally moving to in ears.
ОтветитьIs those not not just earbuds...?
ОтветитьDo you have any follow up on this rig?
Did you find a better alternative for your extra four channels beyond the 16 channels via DB25? (Did the Tascam DB25 hold up?)
How has your experience been with the Presonous Live? Public opinion seems to be that Presonous can be unreliable and the rack space/weight savings over an X32 Rack + S16 just might not be worth it. Would love to hear about your experiences after another year of use.
Pro tip, the more anime girls there are on the box, the better they sound.
ОтветитьI've been running a pair of knock-off Shure SE535's that I got scammed on for the last ten years, but I'll be 100% real that they sound/feel better than the SE215s lmao. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who can't stand the 215s - I use them ONLY as a backup pair. IEMs absolutely changed the game for me as a vocalist.
ОтветитьBro the click level in your IEM is savage 🤣🤣 Doesn't it shave a some pleasure off for you, as opposed to just relying on the drummer ? Genuinely curious.
ОтветитьI just learned how much of a boomer I am. Power to you dude, I would never want my ears plugged when performing, I'm also against the click. Performers going at super speeds live 9is super fun.
