Good utopian architects and science fiction writers absolutely have their place, and I really love utopian architecture and good science fiction, but those two fields share the same flaw - they completely ignore finances and economics. Life can be truly wonderful if you do not have to worry when implementing $1 million solutions to solve $1000 problems.
ОтветитьIf there is going to be a floating city that the climate change refugees will run to. It will probably be more like the "raft" from Snow Crash. A massive organic structure of hundreds of ships lashed together that will more reflect Kowloon walled city than any designed utopia.
ОтветитьWe neglect maintenance on ships and buildings, they all rot in the end.Tons of old and abandoned factories have polluted the ground never to be cleaned up. They just leave disasters zones in their wake, and nobody want to pay for it. . How is it going to be different for floating buildings? It will not be different, at first, they will be popular but nobody will want to pay the real cost of upkeep. These concepts look good on Star Trek and that is it!
Ответитьi remember as a kid i always thought of floating forests more than floating cities. The issue i always ran in to was how to keep the ocean from eating through the bottom of it over the years and if i remember correctly i came up with using platinum at the base since it wouldnt rust or somethin. lmao then i realized how impossible it would be to even get enough
ОтветитьFloating cities are inevitable, but it could be a long time before we see them built in earnest.
ОтветитьThe thing that always gets to me first.. is this subconscious reflexive disbelief..
..if you’ve ever spent a good amount of time on living with sustainability, homesteading that kind of thing.. the idea of having a scalable ‘built in’ system?
.. if the people who are actually USING it and living by its means and limitations aren’t 100% on board and committed to it.. it’s not going to work.. it’s a setup for resource shortages and hoarding and all the unpleasant things that go along with that..
When there’s ‘smooth sailing’ and everyone is getting surplus needs met from the ‘mainland’ everything is fine.. the minute there’s rough seas, and you’re isolated on a potentially fragile finite ‘vessel’ ?? Nope nope nope..
never in a million years if I had any choice..
make a video about Marisfrolg Headquarters!
ОтветитьThese ideas fall into the utopia fantasy. Anyone who's studied the idea of a utopia knows thats theres no such thing. They only appear that way because it's a dystopia for some.
Unless they plan on controlling evey residents life down to if and when they have sex, eat, amd use the restroom; there's not way to make it self sustainable. Also, everyone would have to work and be assigned a job. Some will work much harder than others but not gain any further benefits. Some will squander power. We've seen this before. We call it Communism. On a small scale it can work. On a scale this large? Absolutely not. Again, unless every menial aspect of thsir lives are controlled, youd have to... "trim" the society occasionally. Including by force upon birth.
I think a cruise is the closest we'll ever get to a floating city. It can house staff, and inhabitants, have schools and entertainment. They are designed as a mobile city in mind, though they're very controversial and not necessarily good for the environment.
I believe the way these grand visionaries are thinking about floating city concept is what makes these plans never happen and unlikely to ever get past the planning stages. If you look at some of the countries that are next to the oceans or rivers, many do have at least a portion of the population living in partial floating city type of living communities. I think they exist in Vietnam and Thailand.
All you need to do is create a pumas like concrete mix an inflatable mold. then simply deflate the mold and do it again right next door. Have inflatable molds for walkways and different connecter shapes and linking log style build it with weighed strategic points mounted to energy producing pullies which are connected to the ground. Then sell the platforms with central waist repurposing plants to investors. 3d printing companies can then print up to a certain height and weight per specific platform and instead of 100"s of mills we are talking about 100k 5bd fully 3d printed mansions x 1000 private luxury homes with unique custom designs. You could even start out building the walls up to 6.5 feet tall with Pumas stone Crete a cleat plexiglass pyramidal top and a private home rooftop wind turbine for each home. electric boats all around for transportation. You would need to have it protected by some sort of reef and could easily create a community of fish breeders using net columns, sushi restaurants, fish hatcheries etc. Even someone with just 100 Mill could create a city of 800 homes with all amenities included and self sustainable.
ОтветитьKeep water circulating in this "lagunes" is a challenge.. the water starts to turn bad
ОтветитьYour aure now slave of usa. Haters can't change the leader of saudi
ОтветитьDo the math: Ice displaces more water than it is up to 40% Ice at the poles is 7/8's under water if the polar ice melted it'd take a LARGE portion of the land based ice to make up for the lost space the ICE took up in the Artic sea and the Antarctic sea.
TL:DR EVEN if all the ice at the poles melted sea levels wont rise appreciably. No floods no Lack of land etc etc.... Who ever sold that lie should be slapped for it because even governments are legislating under a false belief!
Some bathing suits just shouldn’t be worn by some people.

ОтветитьUnrelated to the video but still related to the theme of several of your videos. What are the other barriers to creating modular homes and what it will take to move forwards. I can understand the complex nuances of personal lives and other needs. There are people with neuro spicy needs that makes this more challenging. While some people food needs being far more restrictive due to cross contamination struggles. So what kind of modular food growing implements needed to be accounted, i mean there could potentially be a lot of implications that comes from trying to explore the idea of modular building not to mention the hermit crab problem if the infrastructure is not up to necessary standards of long term use.
ОтветитьDon't we have already have people on earth that live on the ocean? Tha Bajau people of sotheast asia have been living on the water for quite a while. Maybe their lifestyle could be a blueprint for newer building projects?
ОтветитьThe Oxagon is not supposed to be a city, though. It's supposed to be a mega-harbour and industrial/logistics area.
ОтветитьI gotta say, I love the idea of small, libertarian city states, but the floating city idea is completely ridiculous
ОтветитьSo far floating cities seem like a very expensive way to dodge taxes and regulations. Kind of cool, but I doubt the idea will ever ... float. If you look at harbours, there are a bunch of boats perpetually tied to the docks that a few live on, as well as the occasional docked yacht in for supplies. That might be the closest we ever get to floating cities.
ОтветитьIncredible video :D You guys must have spent A TON of time researching this subject.
ОтветитьCLIMATE CHANGE... May actually be true, BUT, is it mostly manmade or Natural with human contributions... "The Politics and BUSINESS" of "Climate Change" IS A SCAM on the Taxpayer... Just move ALL coastal cities "Inland" and make the shipping docks floating structures that can rise with the oceans...
ОтветитьTHEY'VE been claiming sea levels rising for the past 50 years... and what has happened? People are still buying seafront property... Obama... and the sea has NOT risen... the land is more likely eroding... and building a "floating" house for a family of 2-4 children, that is storm resistant will cost much more than a normal land based home... and what are they going to do for electricity, water, sewage, garbage, medical, food shopping, schools, and where are they going to work or get to work?... just to name a few land necessities?
ОтветитьI’d like to see this
But Elon Musk style
And the laws are different
Like floating homes
I would like to see this in one slab floating so you can bring it here or there
And be able to repair it and have roads on it and all 😂❤❤❤
Did anyone see the half pipes 😂❤
Honey there skating on our roof again 😂
One big slab would make this possible
And it would have to definitely take a lot of flex for centuries repairing here and there
Imagine feeling the waves as you drive and use I g solid areas and seeing the grass like waves and the trees 🥹❤️
A bunch of ships small to medium
Hundreds
All attached
Not able to knock into each other
With flexible roads and hwy
And lots of homes
And apartments
All attached in a very big spots able to move the city
Big big big big big slab
And able to repair sections
Just stick it all together
Not apart
You still can have water in between
Better surface area stuck together close
Climate Change is politically motivated junk science weaponised to make us accept a social agenda and politicians that we would otherwise reject. Carbon dioxide does not cause warming. CO2 is airborne plant food resulting in an increase in crop yields and plant growth. CO2 is a net benefit to the environment.
Ответитьit started interesitng,... then u dropped that the sea levels continue to rise. no they dont. there are baths build by the romans designed to fill up with the tide and retain water for when the tide recedes. they work exactly like they did 2000 years ago.
ОтветитьThank god I’ll die before that ever happens

ОтветитьAn object that is to be "permanent" sitting in salt water. What could possibly go wrong?
ОтветитьThese all sea ridiculously ambitious and expensive. But i think there is definitely potential in a small scale Modular city on water. Using small pontoons of say 50 to 100 meters would allow the usage of a factory, then you can just put traditional houses on top with all construction a pupose built location.
Putting it near a city preferably a lake or bay doesn't give the difficulties of self sustainability or high waves. Just makes it a new neighborhood on unusable (not)land
