Watching this again afyer a year. I love hearing about game development and the passionate story of devs. I go out of my way to find and experience these amazing indie games. I love games truly pushing boundaries and bringing the medium to an even higher level. Not just AAA has that ability. Triple A stagnates more than anything. Along with many other goals in life I hope to make a few games myself one day.
ОтветитьIt is worth to put money to learn and at the same time have some one mentoring.
Ответить"Why did you have kids?"
"To make better games lmao"
loved this video would actually like to see some sort of podcast like this continue
ОтветитьI watched the whole conversation and I identify with a lot of what you guys have said Thanks for this :)
ОтветитьI'm currently making assets for a dinosaur game that I'm dreaming about by night and working as a painter during the day. Have a family of 7 and my lovely wife who supports me. Very inspiring talk... love you guys. ( was listening to this talk while I was finishing up a painting job)
Ответитьgreat discussion, though thomas you interrupt slightly too much
ОтветитьShould be commiserating people for fucking up their lives by having kids, not congratulating.
ОтветитьWhat an arrogant a hole. Depressing for making $15 000. Like calm down dude you make good money on your games but they definitely arent top of the line games
ОтветитьWow I am working 60 hours a day. I still struggle to find a way to create my own game. For me I try to at least spend like 30 minutes everyday. But still unable to achieve. Game dev really hard word.
ОтветитьIt's not like you don't have to sell yourself with any other jobs. You have to do that just to be a technologist. Employers want to
How ambitious you are. Do you have 5 year experience with industry software.
What you do for fun (as if it's any of their business). What's your 5 year plan. What is your shit schedule. Why don't you have Facebook or LinkedIn?
They don't want to just hire a worker anymore. They want to hire a Steve Jobs (while still paying you shit worker wage). You have to put in so much effort in getting hired, staying employed that you might as well put it into doing something you actually want to do. At least you would have meaningful 5 year plans, real passion and drive. You won't have to bullshit some hr lady about how you have excellent communication and how you volunteer at the soup kitchen on your days off.
There are no safe jobs anymore. Every career you invest in will require effort, and risk taking.
I can believe on person made pinstripe
Ответитьwish I could like this video multiple times
ОтветитьOpsive assets are top notch.
Ответить"15k in it's first year"
Wow cool!
"That's depressing"
Oh...
i need to talk with you regarding one game design please tell me how i can contact you
ОтветитьThe people talkin shit about all the hipster indie games being too artsy and shit are probably people who only play AAA games. Don’t trip. They’re not your audience.
ОтветитьI'm a contractor. I've taken 2 month off in summer for the last 10 years.. during this time I've piles of time, now I'm learning game dev.. progress is large given the ability to crush 10 plus hour sessions a day broken up by doing other things.. it doesn't feel like working like learning c++ did ( 4 moths off during covid I learned this to a point )
ОтветитьThanks for u channel Thomas uve helped me in my game dev career
ОтветитьIt would be amazing to see both of you work on a game together
ОтветитьMedia: “Avengers is the greatest crossover of all time”
Thomas Brush: “hold my ice tea”
Why do you guys talk about game development like preachers talk about god
ОтветитьFun conversation. I love the comments about the asset flipping. Gives me confidence to finish a game that will require them due to budget constraints.
ОтветитьThe point:
So make a game when your wife is pregnant.
You know your life has hit rock bottom when your on reddit sending death threats to an indie game developer for making a game you don't like.
ОтветитьThank You.
ОтветитьThomas that beard is hot
ОтветитьI feel the awkwardness when they interrupt each other lol
ОтветитьAs a Christian father of 2 (soon to be three) who went to film school who now lives in the middle of nowhere rural America struggling to find the energy and time to make video games after working 40 hour weeks at a desk job, these videos are encouraging. I love working with teams and people I care about who have a sense of humor but finding good people who you enjoy working with that ALSO share your passion and commitment to film/game dev in such a small area is very hard and you end up feeling like the only one. I am so incredibly unsatisfied and drained from working a job I despise just to pay off the loans I acquired in school (bad decision made) that even things I WANT to do I no longer have the drive to do. I am still incredibly blessed and my family does very well thanks to my hard working wife and other supportive family in the area but I just don't feel satisfied with myself professionally. I feel like I have a huge level of wasted potential and time is just ticking away.
ОтветитьGreat Video guys! Really appreciate the time you have taken to share your knowledge, experiences and yourselves with us all! I hope I can justify your effort by learning and growing & hope oneday to share with you both something that I have created from your influence!
ОтветитьIn ten or twenty years from now, when a new generation of indie developers gives a Ted talk or interview I'm 100% sure they will reference THIS exact video/interview. It's the most transparent and informative conversation between devs I've heard. Thank you!
ОтветитьAwesome motivation for a noob wannabe game dev thank you both!
ОтветитьGreat talk I needed to hear. Right now i wake up at 6am so i can work on games for 2h before going to work. I realised I am most productive in the morning so, no other way.
Love your success stories, you clearly went through the struggles and frustrations but came out on top.
The only game dev I can think of that had a successful first game is Wlad Marhulets. He made the game DARQ
ОтветитьI feel so inspired listening to David Wehle talk and I have such admiration and respect for his character. I hope that I can also combine my desire to help people/make the world a better place with my passion for game development in the same way he did! Thanks to Thomas and David for this fantastic discussion, I feel that I've learned so much!
ОтветитьI realize this is a 3yr old video, but damn! Hopping on social media while working? I have never done that… wouldn’t even occur to me. I’ve founded a few companies and sold some. There is a quote I heard from I think one of the 3Com founders years ago - sincerity begins at 90hrs/week. 😀
ОтветитьThe best laid plans... funny to hear how thomas is going to rapidly release 3 games in the next 1,5 years. 3 years later he's working on a very interesting title, but still, no more games out. Planning is hard man
ОтветитьLove is in the air. The bromance is real. Love the podcast.
Ответитьi love this
ОтветитьOne thing i respect about Thomas is that He always gives credit. Amazing character.
ОтветитьHey man
Im a 3d artist and im thinking about making my own game, Just wanted to tell you your videos are very inspiring 💗
Hey, just wanted to let you know I like you and your content. Keep it up bud!
ОтветитьGreat conversation, learned and agree with so much of this
ОтветитьWhen David said “when you’re single and no kids that’s the season to start as a game dev”. Thank the lord that I’m both of those right now. Lol
Ответить
