ive heard phillipines is pricy accommodation wise. no budget option, its a shame as ive travelled south east asia but having to air travel and than have hefty accommodation costs puts me off, maybe one day 🙂

Mindanao is pretty much safe, and is no longer a no-go zone. the former President (Duterte) absolutely decimated the Maute terrorist group, and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF, i kid you not) put down their arms and joined the central govt. theyre now standard men in suits and barong tagalogs. They now administer the Bangsamoro autonomous region (a small region within mindanao where the Filipinos are predominantly Muslim by religion). Apart from a really secularized type of sharia, that doesnt include all the awful punishments in places like brunei or malaysia or anything close to gender segregation or hijab forcing mandates, its like anywhere else now. people, christian or muslim, are all pretty chilled now and the country finally has a stable peace. I guess news travels slowly though wjen things are ok. news agencies thrive on strife and not when things are normal. If you want spicy foods and curries, head to any of the local Muslim halal eateries. There's an Aussie vlogger who loved his time in Zamboanga, Jolo and Tawi-tawi, makes vids on their foods. locals in the rural areas are literally starry-eyed! they'd never imagine the day they'd be able to welcome foreign travellers. hospitality is one of the most important aspects of the Philippine culture and a positive view of Westerners really does set it apart from any other country in SE Asia.

Davao is the biggest place and the safest place to travel in Mindanao, just don't go to some remote area of cotabato and zamboanga, The Davao city until to the provinces of Davao is very safe and the people are 90% christian , our muslim neighbours is

Really trying to drill home the fact that Mindanao is "safe". Just because 99% of Filipinos are warm and welcoming people and you had a positive experience in your brief time driving around does not imply that it's safe. In the past 25 years as many as 40 individual kidnappings have occurred specifically targeting Caucasians. That's without considering the many hundreds of kidnappings that have taken place in that time also. Even more cases affecting Caucasians are apparent, murder cases. The kidnapping groups and the militants strategically plan these kidnappings, they wait for intelligence and then they gather resources and plan escape routes etc.

I hope the vloggers take accountability for encouraging people to visit the island. Just this year a Caucasian man was shot dead in Ozamiz and a man was abducted from Sibuco. Prior to those events this channel heavily endorsed with glowing superlatives for foreigners to visit the island. Suppose one of those victims had been attracted to visiting the island because of such videos like this. Especially when the video shows that they have very little understanding of the culture there. Just aimless and oblivious tourists literally stopping at everything, greeting everyone.

What are they trying to do by undermining the kidnappings and such? are they trying to downplay the danger of events which saw their compatriots lose their lives?...

Stop being a smart ass about the danger...Ive driven all through it. My wife is from Mindanao... The place is is safe excrpt the muslim areas in the south. Where bombs and terrorism, kidnappings occasionally happen. The whole island was under martial law in 2017. So there is that as well.
