I love my solar generator (goal zero 500x). my advice for newbies is to really learn your electrical needs to make sure you buy what you need the first time. :-) don't assume it can handle much burst over its rated output. every manufacture is different on how much burst power it can really give, and for how long. So measure twice, purchase once. I gotta say though. once you learn the basics, it's super super obvious and then you'll never forget it.

So, here's how you remember. If your solar generator can output 200 watts, and 1000 watts total. You can plug a few things in, make sure it stays under the 200 watts, and you can charge for five hours. The smaller solar chargers can take 2 panels (100 watts per, but you never get that much), the more expensive ones can take 4, and it'll keep it charged quite a bit even on a cloudy day. :) but yep like SP1 says, keep an eye on your % around lunch time if you are really offgrid so you don't hose yourself overnight.

but for output, just don't count on the burst power. :( So if you want to run a fridge or freezer, you got to do stepdowns so it doesn't try to run the compressor in one big burst of power draw. which is why they make ice chests now that you can plug in to a solar charger without causing that giant compressor draw that'll kill a solar generator.

Nice review. It definitely can be confusing and something lightweight and plug and play like that can be very useful. It won't run everything but a 1500 watt unit can run a wash machine, a dehumidifier, coffee grinder, lights, electric cooler and recharge cell phones and electronics.

Why not raise those rascals off the ground and put plastic sheating over them in the rain? May lose 50% or more with the clouds and sheating, but would be better than nothing. Looks like a great unit, but major negative points for them not making, at a minimum, the panels waterproof.

Seems like a problematic setup especially for people further north who get less sunlight and more rain. And in a longterm SHTF situation would you really have the time to move it 3 times a day and monitor clouds? No. There's got to be better ways. When many people have lost their jobs because of the jab mandates how can they afford this?

Lead farmer has tons of solar generator/panel video's. He has panels facing every direction so he doesn't have to move them at all. He does NOT recommend the foldable panels. Thanks for all the time you put into making these video's for us.

This is very cool. But that price is a bit rough. Its a pity though because it seems easy to operate and mobile should you need to move it in a hurry.

I bought a WZRELB 48V inverter for my shed solar system. It lasted 2 years until October this year when I tried to run a saw on it. A solar salesman that met not long after told me not to use equipment that needs current fast.

We have a lightning rod system on our house. Installed apx 20 years ago. Co called Mr Lightning. In Colorado Springs. While building our house, cabins, telephone,out buildings all got truck by lightning and received damage. No damage to our house or electronics since installed You could probably build your own

Just a note, pass-through usage is possible but it does age the battery faster.

Ecoflow lithium power stations *on AC power* will recharge to 80% in one hour, and 100% in about 1.5 hours. So when you're running your generator for other things, you could recharge an Ecoflow power station much faster than most others. For solar recharging its about the same as other brands, as that all depends on how many watts is coming into the unit.

I picked up the eco flow delta last year and it is fantastic. Even runs my sump pump in our basement. Very versatile system with a ton of power / fast charging.

How many times can the internal battery be recharged? Is there a maximum amount of times?

I have the same set up. It worked perfect to run my refrigerator. Lost power. Head my refrigerator off for almost five hours. Plug my refrigerator into the unit. It got my refrigerator back up to temperature. Which actually wasn't bad. Because I kept my refrigerator closed. But after the unit was fully charged. It ran my refrigerator all night long until the next morning. Got my refrigerator back up to temperature. And everything was sitting at idle. So yes it will run refrigerator. Yes it will run a microwave. And many other things. You just have to pay attention. What is more important. And keep in mind what you're running. How many watts does it takes to run it. And amps. And I did run a milwaukee commercial grade heavy duty angle drill. And drilled through 2x4 with ease. And ran a heavy duty circular saw. It will definitely run it. You just have to keep in mind. Heavier equipment is not going to last as long, but it will run it. So if you're having an issue, not running a small circular saw. Then you have a bad unit. I've had no issues with mine. And i've had mine now for almost five years brand new. And this is March of 2025. Still charges up to 100% with no issues. And I have no issues running anything that I need to.
