Good video with valuable advice, thank you Kelsey! To all the artists out there: keep pushing forward. Your creativity is a gift to the world, and it will be appreciated ❤
ОтветитьTLDR :
-have a nice
-cohesive aesthetic
-be memorable
-adding a narrative to your work elevates your brands and products
Love these videos!
ОтветитьGreat video! This is kind of exactly what I've been doing in the later year or so. I took a class in level design as I was mostly doing environment concept art and it really called me as a creative. I've been mixing both recently and I also started working professionally as both a concept artist and a LD since this class. My hope and dream is that I can become some kind of an hybrid and bring something fresh to the table. Thanks for this video, it made me feel like my calling was a smart choice for the future. :)
ОтветитьA lot of the best advice tends to revolve around having a narrative and storytelling in general, and that's def what a lot of accounts are missing- I would honestly LOVE a whole video on ways to actually do this!! Like in my mind I KNOW storytelling is king and I can tell when an account is doing it and doing it well but I have NO idea how to actually come up with and apply it to my own account lol! :-)
ОтветитьGlad to see you back, we were getting a little worried. Hope whatever you were going through is solved.
ОтветитьThank you Kelsey for this video it’s so helpful.🥰✨ I’m really just starting to make content as a beginner artist, and I just want to ask you how to make content about my art but also to add other of my interests to the content in a smart way. ❤
Ответитьthis is so valuable!! thank you!
ОтветитьHonestly you are one of the most knowledgeable and helpful people out there this was so thorough and informative!
ОтветитьGreat video! Also for the future in case you need to say it again in a video, trompe l’oeil is pronounced “Tromp Loy”. 😊
ОтветитьSo much good advice, I'm still trying to find an online identity and have been pretty burnt out lately so art and videos have been even more difficult to do.
ОтветитьHey Kelsey,
I have been considering your advice about the educational content vs story content for a while now. Trying to parse that in my brain haha.
I would love a video or something dedicated to the idea of educational content vs work work/journey content if possible.
Also, thanks for chatting about this stuff, super helpful. Legend!
I must ask ,what do you make and how well does it sell for you Besides advice?
ОтветитьMaybe the key here like u said, its to be authentic and be yourself. No one can tell that story but you❤
ОтветитьDead fish go with the flow. Aka don’t follow trends all the time.
Ответитьsuper helpful, thanks for sharing!
ОтветитьGreat format! Fairly unique, interesting and valuable to more than just those creators selected. Thanks!
ОтветитьHey Kelsey! Thank you for this great video :) it was really cool to see. I still have only one product (my seasonal veggie calendar on etsy) and struggling to get more because I'm totally torn between the things i could do. Is it more calendars is it more permaculture stuff or saving the planet or pottery and herbs and everything i love. I have to get this all connected. I'm now taking in everything you told us and try to make it work now 😍
Ответитьhow to have cohesive aesthetic if I want to try out different styles and experiment with my art and design skills and post them?
How do you pitch yourself if your art/ design might not be good enough... or style that matches? do you think I need to separate art/ illustration and graphic design work because right now its in the same account...
Just wanted to say that this is a grrreat video! Thank you xx
ОтветитьI love how generous you are in your critiques, Kelsey! Your advice is super helpful to me as a fly on the wall. I love how you clearly identify things you admire in the folks’ work because it shows your deep appreciation for art in general. Thank you!
ОтветитьYou can always change it up each time. If you see a pattern across 4 artists and want to call them all out, that works. Or if you have more to say about 2 artists, that works too. I like it either way.
I would also love to see you have some of these artists on the show with you while you look through their website. I know that would add a level of complexity for filming, but just an idea! Love this series.
I was at Miami Art Week and Art Basel in December and I have to say that I can totally see Sung Lin's work being represented by a gallery at one of these shows!
ОтветитьI love your contents! This video in particular is super interesting, to hear ruthless feedback would really help anyone if they have the mind set to grow. I’m not a visual artist but a music artist based in Bangkok (also have to be a visual artist as well nowadays..) I would love to be part of your roast roster 😂 if you’re ever doing an episode on music artist ❤
ОтветитьIt's a good series Kesley as very useful to learn and see other artists work and they are all talented especially the Art n vou works good choice. Thank you for your advice Kesley in general have a lovely weekend
ОтветитьAhhh I came here knowing you‘re gonna say many thingy you said and dreading to hear some of them. Still super important. I personally absolutely hate the fact that it seems like I cant showcase my very different artistic sides on one single account. But maybe the idea should be to find some kind of common red thread I can weave through everything! Ill think about it ❤
ОтветитьHow can I get you to tell me what I’m doing wrong in my small business ? I sell stickers and I’m consistent in my posting.
ОтветитьWhat a fabulous video - so thoughtful and positive. I do wonder how these suggestions could be incorporated for those of us who do abstract artwork
ОтветитьHow should artist #2 build an immersive space like meow wolf when she is one individual (I'm assuming) and Meow is a multi-location corporation?
Are yoy suggesting that she curate her Instagram in the way Meow Wolf describes Mega Lo Mart? Maybe the artist could become contracted to create one of the environments inside of MW. But thay might not center on ceramics. Maybe the artist could source a multimedia team where her ceramics could work with other art for immersive display. Depending on price, I would collect those ceramics! But I had not seen this artists work. Distribution? Meow Wolf gift shop? Hot Topic (forgive my blindness to new punk popular culture)? Having these items around some major cities changes exposure. Maybe a couple of her most popular items could become produced from a mold so that she could manage slightly larger scale production, if for no other reason than just in person exposure at the right kind of shops.
I am exactly like Kate! Thank you for mentioning her, I’m gonna follow her now ❤
ОтветитьWait... I paint things because they're pretty.... I guess I need to stop that? 😅
Ответитьgood advices, thank you so much !
Ответить"do i want to follow trends or do i want to set them?" no not really.
ОтветитьThis series is great, cause sometimes artists tend to think that lack of exposure is equal to lack of talent, and is not, is lack of marketing. Thank you for making this type of content Kelsey! <3
Ответитьyou're so kind i love the way you talk :3
ОтветитьThank you, Kelsey, for analysing my page! It’s very helpful for me to reconsider what my content should be evolving into. ❤
ОтветитьHello Kelsey, I really liked your video, but there's one thought that's been on my mind lately. I've noticed that storytelling is a recent trend, and I’m starting to see it a lot among the creators I follow. But knowing it's a trend makes it start to feel fake — I catch myself thinking, “Aha! You’re saying this because you want more views, because this is what’s clicking right now!” and I end up feeling tricked.
What do you think about that? Can it become something that’s overdone and just turn into another trend?
What could artists do to avoid falling into this well of marketing fakeness?
So curious to know what you guys think about this series so far! Should I do an episode where I only cover two artists, but do it more in depth? Should I try an episode where I do a lightning round of advice and try to do 10-15 artists in 20 minutes? Let me know!
