This was absolutely adorable. By the way, I think Camellias are a border plant.

Be sure to call the mayor every time you want to purchase any plant, any time in the future. I know from personal experience that this sort of mayor really enjoys that kind of constant and sustained polite interaction. We have a property in a smallish rural city with many groups of concerned citizens and very energetic local government that is just full of suggestions on a wide variety of topics. Our mayor sees us now and sprints in the other direction, and his secretary just starts saying OK YES OK when she sees my number on her caller ID.

Why do they sell laurel there if you can't use it? Also do you really not know how to space plants?

'There's no small job in a chateaux'. Lol. We have 3 acres that we're restoring. A simple job takes double the time planned and often requires 3x the material (soil, mulch, gravel) than purchased. My husband and I have an indicator on how miserable the job was: 1 Advil, 2 Advil or 3 Advil day.

Camelia - best on a warm wall. Maybe in front of the timber framed house? Know 9 months to late - but you can replant this early spring 😉

While I absolutely feel your pain in having to redo the hedge, I have to say how impressed I am with the push to regenerate native biodiversity in France! That warms my heart to think that something is finally being done on a large scale to fix multiple generations of messing things up. I wish the same thing was being done in Canada. You will only benefit from this and I hope you follow up with organic gardening methods as well. You will notice very quickly that your birdsong, butterflies and produce crops / flowers will come through in abundance 🌹🦋💕🐞🌿🐝🐦

I’m curious to know how these rosebushes are doing now. I always thought they needed a lot of sun and not be planted under a tree. I think they don’t bloom flowers if they don’t have a lot of sun and they cannot take acidic soil. So you could add some thing around the base of them that would help get rid of any acidity. They have special feed for rosebushes.

Philipp is right there is an easier way to do a hedge. First clear the grass off in advance. Next take a spade put it in hard so it’s barely visible and wiggle it in a rocking motion back and forth and then remove leaving a gash. Then pop the new hedge plant roots into the small gap, throw in a small amount of good soil with maybe a tiny bit of blood and bone meal or similar planting product mix in the correct quantity. Finally stomp the soil back in with your boots. In this way you make minimal disturbance of the soil structure which is a delicate thing. The hedge will quickly push its roots out of the gash you made and the soil is as it was.

Philip and Duraya saying hi 🙏 ☺
We're seriously thinking of buying a home in France (Italy appealed but it's so difficult to get things done there).
Anyway, we're wondering how you found your chateau? We have been trying to search out a home but all we can find are super expensive way too grand chateau's. We're in Australia at the moment and for a while yet unable to travel and search for ourselves for a home. A place the size of yours or near that size would be idea for us and like you we want to renovate and restore. Grounds and some land would be marvellous as we love gardening and would like to give back to the community in some way from the land we own.
A home in a modern but provincial country style is what we envisage, with all the modern conveniences but in a style that honours the history of the home. Have you any links or contacts you would be willing to share for seeking out a chateau or a country house for us?
Ideally we'd like to be in the warmer parts of France (not too far north or east) ... and not to far from the coast as we love the sea. Hope you have the time between your leading-edge influencer and modelling gigs Phillipe to reply lol 🤣

Watching poor Phillip plant and eventually have to replant. The gardens are huge so Phillip you should dig more winding beds, almost like the shape of Islands. From tree to tree and fill with flowering bushes and smaller colorful flowers at the fronts. Any great big gardens have big beds. When they are all grown and in bloom, its an amazing journey to walk through and enjoy.

a tiny hint about camellias....plant them once.....after almost 40 years in the garden, and close to that number as a professional......after all that time.....the hardest shrubs to dig out or transplant are camellias, they have very hard, deep and large roots....and will keep suckering if roots are left in the soil.....Large leaf camellia's.....are the worst, and they can make a hedge on 1-2 mtr centres, and in morning sun, avoiding hot, intense afternoon sun....which will burn the leaves and flowers

Laurel is so beautiful. I would plant it somewhere else on your property where the community won't see it to complain but where you can enjoy it. It would also provide beautiful flowers for your guest rooms when there aren't a lot of other flowers outside. 😁😇

You should set up a way that fans of your videos can purchase a bush or a tree and you can show people where their tree is. Much like when animal supporters can virtually adopt an elephant or a lion!

I have planted and replanted many shrubs, flowers and trees. You have to start somewhere. Love the videos, started watching weeks ago. I find that your interactions with us and your audience were more authentic initially. This far in, it seems like Philip is forcing comedy and Anna is a little too critical of Philip. Be yourselves, its better for you and for us. Your content and how you structure the stories is great. Keep the good work.

Anna, please feel free to ignore this, but have you considered 2 large planters ( maybe 3 feet tall) for the front door - one on each side. The house would be beautiful with some sort of ornamental shrub/tree to add greenery to frame the front door. Alternately, a pot (7) in between each window would be pretty.
Philip, for your next boy toy, you might consider a wood chipper. Think of a never ending supply of mulch.

I think such a garden planning never stops and keeps replanting everything to another place until everything fits together better when they are bigger, so you will move the bushes, flowers and plants more often. A perfect garden takes time.

I'm a year late, but after seeing all that excellent work Phillip did to cut down the brush, all I could think about was that ivy and how it's going to be a battle to keep it from choking the camelias! The ivy really needs to be mitigated. As for the newly planted hedge, the plants were cheap, and you can remove every other one if you need to later. The way you planted them will result in a much faster hedge! Have you thought of holding a springt or autumn plant sale? The community could dig and haul whatever you want removed, while also making good contacts for future guests. Also please look into air layering or rooting plants from burying side branches; you can create so many plants for free by just leaving them in the ground to root for a year, then snipping them off to plant later.
