I had a 2009 Prius, the last year of the second generation. I bought this car under duress because my mom wanted to buy my 2003 model off me for herself. Quite frankly I disliked many aspects of the 2nd generation Prius: The view to the rear was abysmal, the paper thin leather developed cracks in the arm rests, the traction control was grossly hyperactive (a hill with a dusting of snow caused the brakes and throttle to stutter the car to a halt), the noise vibration and harshness made freeway driving a deafening and teeth rattling experience, and the fuel economy, while great in the city was mediocre around 40mpg on the highway. The gas gage displayed’EMPTY’ with 5 gallons left in the tank, the radio was tinny and too weak to hear at 80 on the highway. The battery for the hybrid was reliable for the 8 years I drove the car, but the 12 volt specialized battery had to be replaced twice at great cost. The hybrid battery overheated in mountain driving temporarily causing the car to go into turtle mode. The car was recalled for a defective inverter cooling pump and the repair left me stranded requiring the car to be towed at my expense. All in all, I think that I’ll stick with my 2017 Subaru Forester, though it gets 10mpg less.

My 1st generation Prius that I gave to my mom was trouble-free in comparison with over 150,000 miles over 12 years of use.

That Saab cannot be a 1968 model, it has no side marker lights. Check the VIN and the build date sticker. It looks like a very nice 66 or 67 model.

I would agree with your like and hate opinions for your Prius.
I agree. Your first gen Prius is in much better shape than mine.

Jay , during the winter try putting Vaseline all around the rear hatch gasket . It shouldn't stick anymore provided you slather it on .
Also it keeps your gaskets very pliable. As far as your traction control goes I believe you could install a switch to turn it off . You would have to see a technician to override that system . I don't believe your car is under warranty anymore so it wouldn't void it unless you have extended warranty service . You may want get seat covers to solve your stain problems .

I have 2 Toyotas, but no Prius. I know 2 folks that have them, and they love them. One of them is the Prius-V which can be driven for the first 50 miles on electric only, then goes to hybrid mode. Maybe you could polish the headlight covers, or treat them with rain-x or both. Heck, there's a dog driving a Prius on "Family Guy". That's how popular they are!

Great video, I remember this generation, I stole one in GTA 4! That's cute, that name "Capriprius" would be even cooler if one was painted bright orange.

I ordered a new Lexus CT 200h Hybrid (which is built using the Prius drivetrain). I hated that car so much I tried selling it 3 months after I bought it. The electric motor powered the car from a start to 10 or 15 miles an hour; then the Atkinson 4-cylinder would take over (a gutless wonder even when using the electric motor plus the gas engine). Speaking of traction control -- this car would not climb a slight incline up a hardly snowy driveway to my garage. As Jay said, you can't turn traction control off and the car would just blink slip, slip, slip with no forward motion. I eventually had to order snow tires. I could go on and on about how many things I hated about this car but I won't.

I appreciate the technology of the Prius. However, I have three really strong gripes that would prevent me from ever owning one: (a), it is, and has been, one of the ugliest cars on the road, and (b) a reason you mention: the interior is just so horribly cheap, and (c) it is, again as you say, purely an appliance. I would consider any other hybrid that is decent looking -- it's not that I don't like them on concept. A question for you: why was your instrument panel display always blinking? Was that just a function of filming it, or was it really doing that?

Jay. Give this a try.
Step 1: Set the ignition switch to ON, not READY. To do this press the power button two times, without pressing the brake pedal.

Step 2: While the transmission is still in park (P), fully press the gas pedal two times.

Step 3: Apply the parking brake to ensure that the vehicle will not move during this step. Put the transmission in neutral (N) and fully press the gas pedal two times.

Step 4: Put the transmission back in park (P) and fully press the gas pedal two times. The car will display “!Car!” in the upper left corner of the LCD screen.

Step 5: Press the brake pedal and turn the ignition switch to the start position, without going back to the ready position, to start the engine.

If these steps are followed correctly, the vehicle will start with the traction control system defeated.

I took an advance commercial art course and one of the ads I did the tag line was what u said, i e. "Goes where you point it". I remember it was. Wedgy proposal for a hybrid because back then u started to hear about alternatives.
Isn't Prius a hybrid? Damn, I was way ahead of the times!
Oh and was glad someone got the Beatles 🎶

You do not have to put your key fob to he hole, I never did it. Just do yourself a favor and change battery in the keyfob, plus the system in the car to recognize the keyfob is a bit slow.
Traction control isi for safety and it works well, when wheels are spinning it works. So your complains is eh... n you want to spin wheels car won't let me. and that is OK . its not sport car.
I have 2007 version with navi (it sucks not updated maps) ... and is OK car for daily comuting summer 4.5 L/100Km and winter 5.5-6 L/100Km
Otherwise on spot video, :)
