Id take a 4 year varsity high school wrestler over 98% off all blackbelts. You can teach a wrestler to strike, cant teach a TMA striker to wrestler. An in shape wrestler is also extremely conditioned and mentally tough.

Krav Maga? I tried it for one year, and it’s useless. At least the Krav Maga they teach you in gyms, that Krav is not the real deal. If you want to know and learn the real Krav go to the Israel army.

Bjj is absolutely useless in street fight. Why you asked?
Because you what if the guy you are trying to defend yourself from has a friend or a weapon? The best martial art is the martial art that is easy to learn and absolutely merciless. Like, bone breaking Muay Thai.

My top three for street defense if trained intensely is as follows

1) MMA ( u have all your arts here and are training with other trained people, also the strength and endurance should be top notch .

2) wrestling ( these guys are the most fit and toughest and can eazily take down and get on too of anyone and also even tho there are not trained in boxing the guys with there leg strength and tuffness can usually throw very hard punches

3) krav maga . I have no idea why so much hate it's basically MMA for the streets . If trained correctly this system is tailor made for the streets

i am taking judo currently you explained a lot about it but you only explained a quarter of it. i actully did use judo in a one on one fight at school its very effective againsed someone who does not know how to fight on the ground but its kinda pointless againsed multiple attackers tho.

REAL fights RARELY go to the ground-- except in cases of some fool trained (or THINKS he's trained) in those ground arts. Out on the streets. there are rocks, pieces of broken glass- gravel- asphalt, hot concrete- adn more that NO ONE wants to roll around on.. Of the Korean arts-Hapkido is BETTER more combat oriented (not so much sport BS). Pentjak Silat is great for the streets... KRAV Maga- is great for the street-- IF-- BIG IF- you have a LEGITIMATE instructor teaching the DeFENSIVE version. There are far too many FAKE Krav instructors that have seen a few videos and think they can do it- and also the krav taught at MOST of the schools- in the US anyway- are WATERED DOWN BS-- and fairly useless. BOXERS are BS on the street... IF you know what you're looking for- boxers are the easiest to take cown-- FAR too focused on their punches -whch is STUPID. Think I'm a nut? Well, I've been called worse. I'm 67 and barely able to move now (got mashed between 2 trucks in 99).. before that- I had high ranking black belts in Kenpo, Aikido, Hapkido, wing chun and jeet kune do-- plus was RANGER in the military-- been through jungles in war- through deserts in war and fought as officer in gangland america- and have over 1000 Documented encounters-- and only 2 losses in my 40 year career... MOST of this crap is USELESS--- I took parts of each o my arts that WORKED every time and used those exculsively-- so out of over 2300 techniques I'd trained in over the years-- I have about 25 or 30 I've done A LOT- thousands of times in practice AND use.. way before MMA was a "thing". Ground fighting - evne judo and bjj- are BS-- especially on the street. They will get you hurt bad or killed.

I am an Eskrima practitioner and I also trained briefly in Bruneian Silat. What I have learned is that the old grandmasters did not learn and train from a single martial arts system but learned how to fight through learning other systems and using them in actually fighting street fights and duels. My old grandmasters never shied away from street fights because they are also gangsters back in their days. Aside from Eskrima, they also learned Judo, Boxing and Aikijutsu. These made them well-rounded and versatile fighters. They were not purists and they would humbly ask to be trained if they notice a different system which they think will be useful to them. Point is, there is no single system that is best. You should find what works best for you and just develop it further along the way.

Here in the US your best martial art for a street fight is concealed carry with a pistol. These very violent criminals here are usually packing and have no intention of fighting fair. Maybe even 30 years ago you could rely on martial arts for self-defense but now I see too many occasions where people go up to someone and assume it will be a fight and they end up getting shot. (I'm law enforcement btw). Get a carry permit and train with the pistol and know when you can and can't use it.

Kenpo strikes the throat, eyes and stomps on them when they are down and is also effective against multiple attackers. Shotakan is a very hard hitting martial art with the ability to repel multiple attackers. American Jui Jitsu covers punching, kicking, elbow strikes knee strikes, head buts, sweeps, throws, arm bars, leg bars, joint manipulation and chokes.

Shaolin Kung Fu can be effective if you know where to strike the pressure points. Some people swear by Hapkido and Aikido but Im not wholly convinced of it.

Judo should be ranked higher than BJJ for street confrontation..The idea in a street conflict is to put your adversary to the ground hard..and not be down on the ground with them...especially if there are multiple attackers. BJJ is good for competition against one opponent..but not as effective against multiple attackers, I would rank Kali or Silat as number one..Any weapons based training is suprerior to hand to hand combat...while boxing, BJJ and Judo are ranked high you can't box, or grapple with a blade or a stick or a bat..unless you are highly skilled ..but you can effectively defend your self against tthose weapons with Kali trainng
