Appreciate the video essay. I couldn’t push myself to go beyond episode 7 and this gave me some closure

I know only 2 things about Ergo Proxy, the image of Rie-l holding a gun (we all know which one) and the Netflix summary.
I expected this as a sci-fi action that tells a story like I Robot and Detroit: Become Human

So i really don't know what to make of when the Proxies showed up, they weren't robots, not even evolved humans, not even gods??

It was a lot to unpack, I don't know if I like the show, I do know I didn't lose interest.

Also I looked it up a bit, it's released around the time of Death Note which I believe have some similarities to the themes.

I've just finished Ergo Proxy and fortunately found your videos. I saw you mention Texhnolyze as well, never heard of it before. Is it worth watching?

Also what did you mean by saying Ergo Proxy's ending came out of nowhere? Was it about the Proxy One part?

This is one of the best anime series ever!!! I didn’t think I would find anything on the production level of monster tbh❤

I was lured to your video hoping you would discuss/explain the story, but I was clearly misled. For the first five minutes (out of 17) you just babble on about the general philosophy in this show without saying anything specific. After that, I turned of, I got no ZERO info about the story from your video. You should change the title or get to the point faster.

1/3 - Cyberpunk noir
2/3 - Family boating
3/3 - random bullshit go brrrr
Last third was disappointing as fuck.
Spoiler
After two straight episodes of hallucinations we arrive at romdo and skip to a fucking apocalypse for no reason.

Oh man, episode 20 was the greatest in the show and actually is a major plot resolve for the journey! Did you notice how the memories began to return to Ergo specifically after the episode 20? Well, I can explain why. I would argue that ep 20 is absolute pinnacle of abstract storytelling, it does (along with following twists) turn the story and meaning of the journey complitely from what viewers originally think. More so, episode 20 shows us exactly how Vincent's memory supression mechanism works inside his mind.

I will say that a lot of subbing for this show is done poorly, and theres only a handful of sources of subs are actually accurate or even helpful in understanding the plot. I wish I could tell you which ones exactly are the best, all I know is the Aniwave one has helpful little tidbits of explanations for certain phrases or words that non-Japanese audiences may not understand, as well as correct spelling of many of the lore-related characters, concepts, and objects, such as "Romdeau", "Re-l", "Autoreiv", "Cogito" Virus, etc. I feel like this made my viewing of the show a lot more enjoyable as I could tell early on why the Cogito virus was called as such, whereas if it was butchered then I would simply find the Descartés references confusing at first.

I'm glad I found my people. I always felt I was the only person on earth who enjoyed this series. I'm happy it's not as unknown or unloved as I thought it was.

"Pretentious? Talked down to?" Sounds like they have an inferiority complex and moronic "my brain hurts" or "I don't want to engage brain" syndrome. 😌🧐🤔😏

Correction: Proxy One was visible throughout different episodes, though, a background. He was present in the first episode where he was observing the city; he was seen Vincent's memory dream in episode 3(Ergo is a special clone of Proxy One and has his memories and appearance) and this means that PO was potentially watching Mosk's destruction, he met Vincent when he went to library (to remind Vincent of the mission), given an actual name in episode 15, and it is implied that Swan is Proxy One attempting to manipulate Vincent further. Physically, he makes an appearance when he kills Donav Mayer and waits for the end.

A few things. Vincent is not made immune to sunlight by Proxy One. he is immune because the 'pulse of awakening' relates to why sunlight kills proxies. Vince and Proxy One share the same pulse. So when One dies from it, Vincent is spared from the pulse. Humanity created the Proxies to oversee and manage the domes and create the pseudo-humans to maintain them. The purpose of the pseudo-humans was to rebuild a civilization so when the earth recovered, the real humans could move in and take their place.

In order to do this, all the pseudo-humans must die off. Which is inevitable if the proxies are killed, because the Proxies are the beings that operate those growth tanks. pseudo-humans cannot reproduce naturally, because they're designed in a way to die off once the Proxies kill eachother or otherwise self-destruct. Also, Daedulus did not make a new Monad Proxy look like Re-l "for some reason" (AKA i assume you mean due to his obsession with Re-l). In actuality Re-l is herself an imperfect clone of Monad Proxy, with the Regent's genes mixed in. Real Meyer, created by Daedelus near the end of the story, is a perfected clone of Monad Proxy.

Monad was the one that helped Ergo Proxy erase his memories and live as a human, because he didn't want to live as a Proxy. this is because Monad was in love with Proxy One, and eventually also Ergo Proxy. It's possible that Ergo is actually created by both of them, but i'm not sure. either way he's a clone of Proxy One.

Let me truly explain the plot as no one gets it.

The nuclear war has set the earth to be unlivable by humans, so the remaining humans decided to leave the earth until the radioactive atmosphere settle down, but to be sure that no other species take the earth in that time they leave so called proxies which are most likely experiments by humans, along with the pseudo humans and androids, the virus that people outside the city gets is actually the radiation from nuclear waste, some adapt while some die.
The important thing to notice is that pseudo-humans dont have the ability to reproduct naturaly.
Original humans have set the timer to come back and take the earth as the radiation levels fall down, that's when we see the sun and the sky clearing, humans are "the creator" that ergo proxy and Vinsent talk about at the end, as original humans dont want any remaining pseudo-humans or proxies nor androids to be there by the time they come back to earth.

I think as gentleman and being men for woman of class, we can all agree and meet in the middle somewhere: that ergo proxy's vision outstrips its grasp; it is indeed a dark emotional piece of art, an honest work of pure passion done as best as these artist were able, given our human limitations. Could it have been better executed in many ereas? Well of course. THIS is all i have to say for now. I have spoken, so shall it be.

"Engaging" is truly the best way to describe this show. Absolutely agree with you that one does not need a PhD to enjoy it, because the show presents a series of philosophical ("religious" would've been a better word here) problems into stories and engaged the viewer to sense the dreads that the characters were going through. How often do we hear philosophers discuss the topic "Do we really want the truth?" in such an understandable way? I would go as far as saying that the pretentious ones are not the production of this show, but the philosophy PhDs.

I loved the way you pictured the 3 main character as a family and how each one of those matured during the journey to mosque.

Although, saying that the show is about 3 young adults achieving enlightenment through their own efforts would've been a disservice to a very well crafted story like this. The entire plot is really about the struggle of reconciliation with the truth and who Vincent truly is. "What was once divided must again become whole."
