We won't know we are on the path of redeeming something of quality from future Energy Generation until "bomb burning" Reactors have priority on the basis of Defence Globally.

The main problem is that engineers aren't the best communicators. The real trick is for the engineers and scientists with the LFTR is to learn to effectively reach out to the best communicators like Kirk who have connections to the rest of the planet.

Here's another idea: If you had $250 million right now, is there somewhere you could start building the prototype reactor? If so, then you just need the money to start. How about Elon? He's going to need vast amounts of electricity to run the future EV fleet. Energy that you don't need to store.

When you realize this video is 11 years old, and China has already built one, because our own government betrayed us.

The "If zero doesn't work" describes almost all research today. We already know it will never work. Trillions wasted "researching" it. It's all a scam. Shut up and take the money, exactly like Kirk described. Everything is like this.

Who else thinks this is still the best, most comprehensive explanation for why we need thorium-uranium breeder MSRs?

Milestones
Funding opportunities
Doing more with less means maximizing efficiency, capability, and effectiveness within the current system price point. It involves finding ways to make the most of the resources available, while still achieving desired outcomes. This could include streamlining processes, using technology to automate tasks, or finding creative solutions to maximize the impact of a limited budget. Doing more with less requires a strategic approach that takes into account the current system price point and the desired outcomes. By optimizing the resources available, it is possible to achieve greater results with fewer resources
Social political climate
In order to achieve our goals, we must use the political needs of others to our advantage. This includes obtaining funding and investing opportunities from various agencies. By doing this, we can leverage the resources available to us to further our cause.

Why doesn't a serious discussion about MSRs address the issues that are primary obstacles with the US NRC, and not talk about the good old days of grass roots computing? The reason grass roots doesn't apply is the the NRC. Big, tiny, garage, whatever, fission is not allowed by any civilian anywhere in the US without their blessing.

Fission gases. What's the plan with the removal of fission gases from the reactor vessel, which an MSR must do, when nuclear regulators never allow that to happen on an operating reactor, anywhere, ever?

Reactor vessel corrosion in contact with salts and near every other element at high temperature.

Graphite moderator?

Perhaps it was a debate tactic, or form of hyperbole, but I find it hard to believe he came from an accredited nuclear program that didn’t extensively cover the topic of Thorium reactors. It’s no deep secret.

we should be using these systems right now!

I'm glad Kirk is speaking up about it, before it dies out and becomes lost important knowledge.
In my opinion this could solve our energy and pollution issues all in one. The reactors are safe enough to potentially power cars, homes or long trip space travel. I think it's at least worth taking a second glance, at the apparently 1960's tech.

12 years later and this still gets me excited…. I wish we had a president who would get the NRC in a room and just tell them “make this happen. If you fail, global warming will destroy this planet. I’ll make sure you get all the resources you need - this is one of my top priorities.” That’s my dream headcanon and I know it won’t happen, but goddamn do we as the public need a better sense of urgency regarding building more nuclear power, even just today’s conventional. I know NIMBYs are everywhere but I for one would be proud to have a reactor within driving distance of my city.

Thorium Nuclear Plants will make Uranium Nuclear Plants obsolete, and those heavily invested in Uranium Plants & backed by Gov Establishments (because they get huge political donation$ from old tech shareholders/lobby groups) will do everything in their power, even lie and spread disinformation about thorium reactors to stop the new tech, and THAT'S is the biggest stumbling block for Thorium Reactors to overcome!
