What’s crazy is that in the Middle Ages, Bulgaria was practically the heart of Slavic culture, learning, and was just genuinely one of the strongest powers in Europe at the time. If Tsar Simeon I had gotten lucky and taken Constantinople he probably would’ve been able to usurp the entire Byzantine Empire.

Instead of recognizing any of that, the south Slavs get zero unique flavor and basically exist to get rolled over by the Byzantines or raided by the Magyar.

Im hoping they fix this with a possible unique flavor where they are taking the unite the southern slavs decision unlocks a new one that can possibly take all of the balkans and create a south slavic heritage greek hybrid culture to stabilize the conquered greek region of said hypothetical

I did this run as Bosnia with its own unique Krstjani(The Bosnian Church) christian faith. It makes it an even bigger pain than it already is, especially when the pope decides to proclaim my faith as hostile(historically accurate btw) and then apart from having to deal with the normal Bosnia uniting South Slavs problems now I have to deal with the pope suddenly forgeting about the holy land and muslims and just spamming crusades on me.
Definitely a very fun and intense playthrough but only if you re an experienced player.
