If you are having to find the bee's, and gather the honey and cone yourself, use the cone as wax.... I would just use a tiny bit of the cone with any kind of grease or animal fat, to make it go further.... Honey does not go bad, so the cones should keep the wax without molding for a super long time as well. I make the old tallow candles, but as a modern native American I use bought vegetable oil due to the smell. Animal fat stinks. I like the Crisco candles, the 5 hour survival candles inside a Crisco container, but not primitive. To be honest, I don't know how my ancestors gathered enough fat to make candles, but they did have more options on meat than just deer. I am thinking bear meat grease, and grease from opossums. My ancestors were not islanders, unfortunately, as Tennessee is certainly no paradise island.
