I find when a skunk sprays it is very strong and scary! Also I wonder if you have ever smelled Llancome's Idole i L'ntense? It's discontinued I think but has three jasmines and and is actually quite compelling to me. It draws you in but it's got that Jasmine bite, but I really enjoy it
ОтветитьDE PROFUNDIS!
ОтветитьMendittorosa- Osang- fills me with dread.
Smells like a Vampire's tomb...
This was so much fun and lots of interesting comments in the chat.
On the scary scent note I think to me it’s more about an unsettling blend rather than one note, ex metal + blood, smoke + rot
cough Hemlock 🧙♀️.. cough Ormonde Woman 😄
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьLoved your reaction to Sécrétions Magnifiques! It's utterly unwearable, one of the very few fragrances I cannot stand. Funny story: I once wanted to let a few fellow perfume fans get a taste of this and I pull it out of a bag only for the sample vial to break and spill all over my hands, and bag. I raced for a nearby kitchen sink to scrub it off, but the smell was there for hours. The horror! The bag? Well, it didn't survive: I don't know where it is now. Thank goodness!
ОтветитьMost disturbing fragrance I’ve smelled was ‘Douleur!’ by Bogue, a metallic rose/cotton candy. I think it’s discontinued. Truly the smell of despair! To me it was the feeling of your heart sinking from fear. Had to wash it off!
ОтветитьSécrétions magnifiques is really my signature scent, and the most complimented fragrance I have! But, on the other hand, 2 of my closest friends have forbidden me to wear it when I see them haha
ОтветитьMr. Persolaise, this inspired me to plan to wear my modern Poison EdT this coming Monday. Poisonous Tuberose! It still causes strong reactions, for better or worse. I am very introverted, so these sort of "demanding" scents are something that allows me to express myself better, without even uttering a word. I love the current version, as it is hard to find an old one in good shape. Smells beautiful and "challenging", and does bring me back to the 80s as child/young teen. Will never be without Poison EdT moving forwards. 🧙♀️ As always, thanks so much for your work. 👍
ОтветитьOh how I love a vintage Poison! Definitely one of my top witchy scents. My others are Amouage Memoir Woman makes me want to have a séance in the forest at midnight. Olympic Orchids Nightflyer (original Bat) for when I want to smell like a melancholy vampire that kinda got forgotten about in a cave. Noir de Noir for the more stylish vamp that like to drink cocktails. Ormonde Woman is my gothic freshie that feels like stepping into a Brothers Grimm tale. And of course Serge Lutens Fils de Joie. Despite the name, probably the most viscous and nightmarish scent I own.
ОтветитьGreat selection👌 among all bandit was also my mother's signature scent💝 and I bought for her the last time I was in Paris from le bon marché! I also love fracas by Robert piguet👌 have a spooky Halloween🎃 Cheerio mate🥂
ОтветитьOhhhh Akro Night is insaneee. I cannot decide if it's the sexiest fragrance ever or too stinky. But it for sure has some magic in it. It smells so realistically human that it's crazy. I'm glad Akro started making smaller bottles because I think I might get it now:))) Also Black Afgano is one of my absolute favorites fragrances. It's such a cozy woody scent :)
ОтветитьI have never been a Halloween fan, but this is a fun perfume topic!
ОтветитьI started wearing perfume when I was 11 years old and have been obsessed with it ever since.
ОтветитьWonderful top 10! Fascinating how differently we associate scents. When I think scary, I think cold and inhuman. Secretions Magnifiques for me is the serial killer, dystopian AI future scent. When I think more sociopathic CEO cold I think Chanel No. 19 (sorry Mr. P, I know you love it).
The more gothic scents that scare many people like Poison (Esprit de Parfum version is fantastic!) and the edgier Serge Lutens, for me feel passionate and intriguing. Even frighteningly skanky perfumes have too much warmth to feel Halloween level evil.
Regarding precocious perfume habits, when I was little I fell in love with Paloma Picasso Mon Parfum and my grandma bought it for me 💖
Filippo Sorcinelli Unum But not today is genuinely spine tingling-ly frightening. It's in a creepy blood red bottle and was inspired by Hannibal lecter in Florence. I won't spoil it as it is one to try blind without any notes and try to figure out what on earth you are smelling. I think you will find it interesting, in fact the whole Unum line are worth checking out. Lavs is the most famous being the scent of the pope's robes.
Also, I thought you may have gone for Overture man by Amouage, I agree with you that it is quite vampiric.
I love your seasonal Top-10 videos. This episode was wonderfully festive but also very thoughtful. A joy to watch.
ОтветитьYou're amazing!❤
ОтветитьRemember Magie Noir? It also reminds me of a Witch’s brew.
ОтветитьI love my Bandit. Doesn’t scare me😅
Ответитьoooh I must try Green Spell. For me, Eris’ Ma Bete is almost unbearably animalic (it has that dirty costus note I can’t stand) so I’m interested to see how this compares. anything Antoine Lie does is worth checking out! the scariest perfume in my collection has to be Commes des Garçons 1994 original EDP. it smells like you’ve been dropped in a wasps nest! utterly terrifying. and the animalic honey drydown is the stuff of nightmares
ОтветитьWearing Bandit will never be the same after that description, lol :o) I'll be looking over my shoulder at night!
ОтветитьDear Persolaise, it seems I can't manage to watch you live very often. Too bad. Well that's life, I suppose.
Now I totally agree with you about the indecency potentially contained within cumin essential oil. I wore Femme from Rochas in the (very intense) heat of summer and I remember thinking that everyone would be smelling sex on me, so potent is that animalic, lusty note on skin. It's like you've just come away from an orgy. I even felt embarrassed just walking down the street because I thought people would think it was so obvious I was a sex addict on the hottest afternoon! Ha!
Now I really want to discover Akro!
I see that Secretions Magnifique is a cheerful scent - you can't stop laughing:))))) Actually, for me, SM is just a metallic flower scent. From time to time I use it for fun :)))
ОтветитьPeople are sometimes surprised to hear that Halloween is not new in Scotland, where it is centuries old. It's Old Hallows Eve. We used to carve lanterns out of turnips (swedes), not easy I can tell you, and children go "guising" from door to door for sweets and apples. We used to wear simple home made costumes. When I was young we had to sing a song or tell a joke to get the treats. I always choose a Halloween fragrance. I love your selection. I'm dipping into whats left of my quite old The Unicorn Spell from Lez Nez.
ОтветитьPersolaise, I just received my bottle of Hermes Violette Volynka EDT and I am really liking it so far.
ОтветитьThis was my signature scent 1990s club days dressing up dancing champagne 🍾 the best perfume the scent unexplainable intoxicating. Sadly I bought a bottle recently it does not have the same strength. Tomorrow I will wear it on Halloween thank you for this review🎃🎃🎃🎃
ОтветитьLa Couche du Diable smells like the best version of Hell lol. Totally get a surreal burnt feeling from it too! an eventual full bottle purchase for me
ОтветитьI wore the vintage version of Dior’s Poison + Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle at a Halloween party. What a hit! I got compliments all night.
ОтветитьWhat a great episode Mr P, I wish I could have engaged in the live conversation as well but unfortunately that was not possible. I’m wearing Rien for the occasion of watching it today, a bit of a scary scent but also very comforting at the same time strange as that may seem. 🥰 I don’t know which scent would scare me really. But so-called skanky and dirty perfumes do take me aback at first, before I sometimes fall in love with them later.
Of course Poison is as gothic as they get, and I love it to death 😉 Your reaction to the Secretions was hilarious, and made me so curious, I decided that if I choose the next sample set to sniff out some new possible additions to my collection, this one must be part of it!
Thank you for the inspiration, again. 🙏🏻😊🌸
The banning of perfumes:
Ok, so The Safe Quality Food (SQF) program is recognised by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
The SQF states in their “Personal cleanliness and clothing (12.3.3)” that restaurant staff must have good hygiene, clean clothing wear deodorant and only a light amount of perfume or cologne.
This is only for the staff though. Not customers.
But, Federal law in the U.S. says businesses have a right to refuse service to anyone, so long as it’s not on a discriminatory basis. so, if a restaurant doesn’t like a certain perfume, it can refuse anyone wearing it.
When I was in secondary school almost all the girls wore either Giorgio of Beverly Hills, Poison, or Obsession. I myself wore Opium. Grown up perfumes on very young women was the fashion. The boys were dowsing themselves in Polo. The school didn’t seem to mind. Restaurants with chefs that took themselves quite seriously, would probably be annoyed by some perfumes, particularly the hideously overpowering Giorgio, filling the room with its acrid scent, rather than the scent of the cooking.
I do remember seeing signs of it being banned in certain stores and in an art gallery. mostly so as not to exclude those with fragrance allergies, real and imagined. Those with imagined allergies only complain if the fragrance is overwhelming and if they don’t like it.
Asafoetida - scary as hell.. instant dry retch 🤢 🤮
ОтветитьThe overwhelming note I get out of Alien is ROACH SPRAY. I can't get over how it reminds me of bug spray.
ОтветитьI’m wearing couer de noir by Beaufort London. I smell like a pirate.
ОтветитьSaw the Poison thumbnail and I approve. :) I have been hitting up the flanker Hypnotic Poison for Halloween, which is more of a sorceress choice. Plus for a chocolate/praline fragrance hitting up Carolina Herrera Good Girl as I'm typing this. I think Poison is one of Madonna's favorites too. I had been gazing at my bottle of Mugler's Alien as well, the version I have is the newer version. Mugler's Alien is kind of sci-fi, reminds me of Seven of Nine from Star Trek or thinking of Quorra from Tron:Legacy.
ОтветитьFun review! Midnight Poison is the vampire perfume for me 🖤
ОтветитьThank you for this entertaining video! I believe I didn't wear perfume on the 31st. For some perfume lovers, not wearing perfume might be scary. :P I regularly like to "pause" wearing it.
I remember when I first bought Black Afgano. I've never smoked in my life and I usually really don't like the smell of Marijuana but at that time, I liked the Nasomatto's interpretation. A way to feel naughty maybe? ;-) But to be honest, I didn't wear it very often. After 10 years, my bottle is still almost full.
I agree with you. Metallic notes can be quite scary. I'm not fond of them. M/Ink is special indeed. I wouldn't wear it but it didn't frighten me. Neither did Sécrétions Magnifiques even though I didn't enjoy smelling the metallic notes in it. Wouldn't wear it either.
As for Panthère I was surprised that you find it "scary". I really enjoy smelling it though it's not really my kind of perfume. I found L'Heure Perdue much scarier. I love vanilla perfumes but I can't stand milk accords.
And aldehydes are often scary to me. :-)
I have to get my nose on Dior Poison extract. There was a period I loved wearing the Hypnotic Version though it's quite different of course.
And same as you I love Alien Essence Absolue. I'm not a fan of the original Alien, too strange to my nose. But the Absolue is so smooth, much more terrestrial than alien in my opinion.
Aaaah POISON my signature fragrance I have been wearing it every since it made it grand entrance I love every bit of it I can’t get enough of it it just entrancing
ОтветитьI had a friend who wore Alien and it smells so strong of artificial vanilla I can’t stomach the smell of it
ОтветитьThank you for encouraging me to revisit Dior Poison. I despised (and resented) this scent in the 80s. It smelled so terrible on me (berry barf), but this teenage goth desperately wanted to wear something called "Poison." I recently stopped at Macy's and revisited this scent. I don't know whether it's because I've aged or the reformulation has made this scent "friendlier," but I can finally wear Poison and now understand why this is considered a benchmark tuberose. I came home with a full bottle.
I hope you and Madame Persolaise are having a peaceful holiday and look forward to your videos in 2023.
Never thought of black afgano as scary but cant get the image of dracula with a spliff out of by head now🤣🤣❤
ОтветитьWould you recommend the current formulation of Dior poison? I am trying to hunt down a vintage bottle but because of the shipping restrictions I haven’t managed yet!
ОтветитьMy witchy perfumes are my favourite Chanels - No19 and Cristalle. I can imagine the Wicked Witch of the West, Mortica and Vampira wearing these fragrances. I feel that they have that bewitching quality about them!
ОтветитьI wonder what you would think about "lush-lust"
ОтветитьAh yes, Morticia Adams, a role model for my dark side 🦇
This is a fun video, Dariush! Looking forward to what you have in store for this year's Halloween 🎃
Catching up! 🎃
ОтветитьGreat idea and list. I think Trex from Zoologist could be a good one for scary perfumes tho.
ОтветитьGood evening. Would be so great to refresh Halloween scents for 2024. What say you?
