Hi April- You did an awesome job of capturing the EJ tone! I learned a lot. I'm working on a similar tone: Michael Landau's clean '80's chorused, delayed. modulated tone (with compression) You mentioned the popping from the compressor- that happens with one of these settings and your touch 1) the Attack is too short- the "pock" sound is the compressor grabbing the transient hard. If you can slow the attack down to let the transient through the attack will still sound normal. 2) Input sensitivity too high - again this affects how strong the transient is and how much the compressor is going to grab the transient. Generally, start with a >20ms time for the attack, then adjust the input sensitivity. When adjusted properly, you can hit the strings pretty hard (EJ does with fingers) with your fingers and still not get a pop- you may have to reduce the amount of compression. If the first two parameters don't solve the problem, you may have hit the dynamics limitation of the compressor.

This brought a smile to my face! Very well played April. A lot of people want to emulate Eric's blazing distorted runs. But sometimes it's those clean hybrid picked arpeggios or his cool chord inversions that show the depth of his technique. You captured that side of Eric perfectly. Well done! 😊

How did you learn to hybrid pick like that??! I've just about got down most of EJ's fast lines but this rhythm stuff completely eludes me... I can transcribe single note lines but chords feel impossible to pick out by ear!

Question: Did you transcribe this yourself? If so how did you figure out his strange voicings for the chords?
