Russia is known to send in provocateurs to stir up trouble. I hope the syrian people can continue to remain calm. For reference, watch some of the coverage of Crimea in 2016. Vice news(back when it was better) has a good video that talks about Crimea in 2016 and MANY of the locals at the time reported russian Troops in civilian clothes, they also have a documentary on a bunch of soldiers who never returned home from a "training exercise " out on the border of Crimea at the same time as the Crimea "referendum". I’m horrified by the new regime’s harsh reaction to Alawites. It stands in stark contrast to their relatively much more tolerant treatment of Christians. Alawites are not at fault for Assad’s crimes. What choice did Alawites have when these guys were chanting “Christians to Beirut, Alawites to the grave” right from the beginning? Of course they had to support the government for their own safety. They’re not very safe now. The new Islamist regime is being as nasty as the world will tolerate.
