In my opinion, all the purple accents and all “cool kid” Ubuntu colours only make Ubuntu seem unprofessional. They could get rid of the purple accents (on dark themes they are even worse) and get some better looking wallpapers. The looks of a distro speak a little about it. The colour scheme is amateur and does not smell professional enough - it’s the main image of Linux that people first get, after all

You should try KDE Neon. I also like Budgie alot, but compared to Neon the UX feels to heavy.

Nice! Always good to hear/see your views. Ubuntu is still a solid (production level stability) distro and my workhorse.

Seems pretty stable for a Beta release. Then again, it barely changed anything from 20.04 since most the gnome 3.38 changes were already implemented on Ubuntu 20.04

I hope at some point Gnome takes a page from KDE and becomes slimmer. I'm trying out Kubuntu now and really enjoying how little resources and fast it is but using Material Shell does sound interesting and I may test it out.

As for package Manager I like Muon, I don't know if Synaptic has different packages but I like the look of Muon.

Have you tried the free version of DaVinci Resolve? I just saw a video that said it was the best of the free video editing programs.

sudo dnf install yaru-theme ,I think .
I don't really remember the package name , but yaru is there in the fedora repo .
And you can do gnome-software --quit and then start it ,after adding flathub.

Hi Tyler, just a thought .... this next round of desktops a lot of devs have put in a ton of work improving Wayland support should be HIGHLY functional especially KDE 5.20 which should be the desktop version for next release. Fedora Wayland is standard in GDM for awhile and taken for granted. Wayland is still not standard in Ubuntu but can switch to a Wayland session at login. GDM 3.38 should also better integrate Testing Ubuntu 20.10 should include a Wayland run thru..... just a thought... watching this at 1:20 am need to sleep....

Pretty sure I already know the answer but is there any chance you would be willing to do a video on chrome OS? It runs Linux apps, android apps, web apps, etc... It's pretty nice, very fast and efficient even on older / lesser hardware. I can point you to the best install method (Kedar's) which is very easy and doesn't take much time at all... NO proprietary hardware (ChromeBook) required! 😊

How to set custom resolution in ubuntu 20.04?

I tried some steps in terminal and set the resolution to the desired. But while applying it reverts back to the last state 1024x768.

Please suggest me. My screen optimal is 1440x900.

Thanks so much for this informative video! I’m on Ub 18.04 but I was close to switching distros, until I saw 20.11 has the new kernel and new Gnome versions. Your run-through made me feel even more confident in staying/upgrading - and I learned a lot. Nice salting of opinion while keeping it instructional - thanks for being real (not snarky)!

I tested Ubuntu 20.10 on install DVD and realized that,
1) No sound.
2) Only ESP(Efi System Partition) available and unable to install on MBR .
... Backward compatibility was ignored. (20.04 is better.)

I just installed it on my test machine. Embarrassed to say I spent a few hours trying to install it MBR for legacy boot and discovered that can’t be done. The reason is my Asus Z77 will only boot a UEFI disk as long as it stays connected. Remove it or change to another disk it’s over. A bug in firmware. So legacy boot 7 operating systems. Very little about this release on the topic. It creates a boot image for bios systems that resides on a small partition. Next partition is the typical UEFI fat 32. Last the root ext4 system. It works great. Would be nice if they had explained that they were no longer supporting MBR. Only GPT. My other two systems are UEFI boot and newer.
