Just discovered your channel, I love it.
ОтветитьGreed has always produced some bad entertainment. But we entered a new low when various news and social media started to openly imply that there is something wrong with anyone who dislikes the latest slop that comes out
ОтветитьTop gun maverick is NOT A GOOD MOVIE
ОтветитьFuck he didnt say tlou 2
ОтветитьWhat annoys me today are people, probably on the young side, who are embracing AI regenerate technology too much and then think that because they can now make their own movies with a click of a button, that they can solve their issue of dissatisfaction of modern entertainment.
But not only does that idea destroy the very concept of art and culture, it also contradicts their narrative.
Because if people are sick of modern entertainment spewing out endless remakes, sequels and reboots. And what they want are true original movies, then that’s never gonna be achieved by AI.
Regenerative AI doesn’t know how to generate original content. So you can’t expect it to make an original and satisfying idea for you. That takes the mind and skill of an artist. Not a fake artist who makes fake art with AI who gives birth to another age of endless tasteless, sloppy content for braindead consumers to eat up.
I think I gotta buy Vampire Hookers
ОтветитьI very much doubt if the great artwork of the likes of Arthur Sarnoff of the dogs playing cards and pool or Lustig's Island Girls on crushed velvet could ever really be replicated, never mind films like Werewolves on Wheels or The Black Six. A lost golden age of trash that will hopefully far outlive it' s respectable counterparts.
ОтветитьThis is good shit!
ОтветитьSeriously all I can ever ask for is stop the sequels to everything. It's nuts. Some sequels have sequels. I understand the damper put on creativity for profit, but it's getting harder by the year to find the things I enjoy.
ОтветитьI enjoy indie games and movies far more. Today's movies and games today are not necessarily bad as much as you no longer own it yourself. It's never been political for me, it's about corruption. I'm sure Indie products will go the same way.
Ответить😎GOG*
ОтветитьBecause companies are pu55ies and refuse to innovate and resort to milking an IP for money even if it means bland, uninspired content and garbage writing or storytelling.
ОтветитьAnd this is coming from the guy who thinks Terminator is woke and "He stopped being woke".
HYPOCRISY MADE MANIFEST
In the case of western videogames, even if we ignore the people who make plain ugly creations out of mandates, there is a huge issue of the companies not trying to keep and cultivate the best and brightest so they can use them again in the future, so it seems like now every sequel seems to have lost most of the people who made a previous entry good.
ОтветитьJust because people have always said it doesn't mean it's not actually true now. People are still capable of creating great art, but most don't have the opportunity to do so. The big players in the arts industries (Hollywood, video games, etc.) are more interested in creating content and making money than they are making good art. Video games are made objectively worse by having abusive monetization shoved into them and being turned into "live services." Hollywood basically refuses to gamble on original ideas and so the only movies which receive substantial budgets are sequels, prequels, and reimaginings. Netflix is literally telling their writers to write their original content to be "second screenable," meaning it is intended to be on in the background and easy to follow without paying much attention to it.
There are still good works of art that survive the process and make it through, sure. But the incentives that control the industries lead towards churning out slop in ways they have not before
hopefully AI will help level the playing field so passionate people can create great things on a budget.
ОтветитьWhen I turn off the video and just listen to the audio, I really feel like I’m listening to God ranting at the end of his videos.
Ответитьto your point about owning media, I have made the decision recently of collecting DVDs again because I was sick of not owning my entertainment. It made me realize that the people who complain about streaming services make the conscious choice of continuing to use them. Yes, you do need to spend money to get a movie, but after that you own it. In the long run, it is cheaper to buy movies outright than pay a monthly amount for a subscription service. Modern films still get DVD releases, so that option never truly went away.
ОтветитьI'd barely consider Baldur's Gate 3 a sequel. It's a standalone game, the only connection it has to the previous games is just a couple cameos from previous characters, and being set in the same universe. It's set in the world of Forgotten Realms, the most popular DnD setting. So calling BG3 a sequel is like calling that DnD movie BG4.
ОтветитьI don't understand what makes postmodernism such a boogeyman for some. I love postmodernism, actually I'd go as far as to say ALL of my favorite pieces of media are postmodernistic. Postmodernism is so much more intellectually stimulating.
ОтветитьModern entertainment is garbage because of the combo of corporate greed and people unfit for their roles being hired over those who are would be the best pick. When Cronyism is valued more than merit, disaster comes.
ОтветитьBecause people talk about Star Wars, sure the lightsaber fights and the music are nice in the prequels but the rest? Jar Jar Binks? The extrem weird lovestory of Anakin and Padme in Episode 2? Anakin in general? (I mean he is great for memes tbf) They have also some massive flaws
Or Lord of the Rings, because out of nowhere now everyone is hyperfocused on lore accurancy in Rings of Power but here is the hard truth.. the Lord of the Rings Movies are also full with Lorebreaking Bulls...
Because i have slowly get the opinion "People dont care about breaking the lore aslong it is "cool".".
Orca is really bad in a good way . I saw it when it first came out. I think it was a Italian production.
ОтветитьWe have higher standards too since we’re all exposed to the best of all time.
ОтветитьAs someone working in games for 15 years or so, this is highly accurate.
ОтветитьI would also like to add three little thingies myself, applying mostly but not exclusively to films, series and music:
1. The way we find our stuff is nowadays based in algorithms, if you watched one superhero action movie you're gonna get recommended more and eventually all you get is what the algorithm THINKS you will like. As well as that people are generally less risk taking, instead of seeing what the local movie theater has you look at what netflix thinks you should watch, instead of browsing your local record store for something with a cool piece of cover art and then trying it out Spotify will already send you stuff similar to what you listen to. This gets you kinda stuck in place and in far less control over what you watch. You feel forced to watch the same things because "its all that's being made" when in actuality it's all thats being recommended to you. My best advice is to just google something and find it, I found some of my favorite media through just lists like the anime Violet Evergarden and the album Thick As A Brick by Jethro Tull, both are dear favorites to me now.
2. This ties back somewhat to the first point but I still felt like it made sense to make it a separate point. We don't really own our art anymore and even when we do it's more out of novelty rather than necessity, I still use Spotify for most of my music and only occasionaly listen to my music on vinyl. In the past when you saw a great film at the movie theater you might go and buy a VHS or DVD copy, now you don't. You have nothing to remember it by, I have a copy of the album "Alphaville" by Imperial Triumphant up on display on my wall and I remember how much I love that album every time I see it. Meanwhile for films which I don't tend to buy physical copies I kinda forget myself what good movies I've watched recently. This is why I just write down all the albums I listen to at this point and I should probably do the same for films.
3. We perceive good things from the past as even better than they were then. Not because of nostalgia but because we're told it's supposed to be great. For example I've heard tons of talk growing up about how the original Star Wars trilogy is so great but honestly after watching it myself for the first time since I was a toddler I can't really say I see it the same way anymore. I mean for example Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are both praised as legends of rock music to this day and rightfully so, they made some great albums, but then again Jack White has made some damn good rock albums recently, and Denzel Curry has made some great rap albums. I'm born in 2003 and I feel like I fell victim myself to the idea that Led Zeppelin will always be the greatest and like as great as it can be so no matter what a new rock band does it will never be seen as better than Led Zeppelin II, even if it was to be way better. At this point I just try and listen to most old classics with as empty of a mind as possible, instead of letting someone tell me why JAWS is so great before I watch it how about I just find out myself?
A tale as old as time
ОтветитьForget the trolls, remember the taxes. Always a joy.
ОтветитьModern movies don't suck they just blow
ОтветитьHey have you ever smiled in you're life? You seem angry and serious all the time
Ответитьseeing you mention god of war by name feels unreal, i love it
ОтветитьYou can see the spread in video game sales. Older games, 5+ years old, bring in more money than new games.
ОтветитьY’all need to watch hundreds of beavers before saying modern stuff is bad
ОтветитьPlease name five good Hollywood movies of The last 5 years so I can check them out and watch them...
ОтветитьVisiting your channel is like opening a window that let only fresh and clean air in.
Intellectual honesty has become so rare. Sometimes I feel like I'm breathing after a long apnea.
Reality TV has fucked shit up a lot.
ОтветитьA lot of good stuff to keep in mind, but I would argue Elden Ring is mega derivative as a spiritual sequel to Dark Souls 3. On the whole, I think media literacy has been eroded to the point where the ideas that ask you to think are too risky to produce and the ones that let you look at your phone sell so well it would be foolish from a business standpoint not to make them.
ОтветитьI love the way he says, "garbage."
ОтветитьPop music is no longer art. It is whatever the corporations feel will be bought by the public. People who swoon over the current auto tuned mess that coats their ears have no idea how difficult it was to produce good music (art!) before everything was done in post production.
ОтветитьHit the nail on the head.
It’s on us to seek out the good art and give it the attention it needs. If we do nothing but complain about the lack of originality, we only perpetuate the problem.
I have different perspectives.
If religion is changing, our entertainment could be changing.
In the old days, Horsing is the entertainment and also for work. As the industry grows, Car is the entertainment and also for work.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being one of the most grounded voices I’ve had the privilege of stumbling upon on this platform. This is genuinely really refreshing to hear.
ОтветитьThat is an Under statement !!! It is Total Crap !!!
ОтветитьJAWS...the musical
ОтветитьNostalgia is emotional fast food.
Ответитьfor me i just like enjoying classical art becuase its (imo)timeless art that still has communities around it
and i think the modern music will die just as fast as its trends die
"genius" movies like the notorious live action Snow White remake, are far more than products of greed.
Those making such things either have to be trying to get as much as possible wrong, or to have a very twisted view of what is good.
I want all the reboots, prequels, sequels etc to be over and done with. It is like defacing old paintings with spray cans.
Hollywood got so huge by making 'cliff hanger' movies which 'thrillied' audiences, literally giving them 'adrenaline rushes'. Well, the chemical name for adrenaline is epinepherine -- it's not a hormone: it's a neuro-transmitter, and it's also the principle ingredient in Crank. So Hollywood actually got so wealthy and famous by pushing crank. It's All drugs on this planet.
ОтветитьTo dismiss political ideology is a little simplistic but the greed part is correct in my view. Most rich people, artists and normal individuals have a political agena. And most think that their own view of the world is the correct one. Have a nice day.
