Great story and film, but the start just seems too easy for the bad guys, too lopsided, no balance.
ОтветитьThoroughly enjoying this reading, the narrator is exceptional, bringing life to the book. I haven't seen the movie which probably is a good thing as movies often deviate from the book and this is perfect.
ОтветитьMilton is/was sterilising solution often used for babies bottles, diapers etc.
ОтветитьNarration very good . Apart from his version of ' M ' ..
He makes him sound like my 80 year old Great Aunt . M was
a Naval Officer - a Vice Admiral !!
My first time listening or reading a Bond book after years of dedication to the movies. My first observation is that Bond is far more nuanced and complicated than the character in the movies. More than just a “blunt instrument.”
ОтветитьGIANT POISONOUS CENTIPEDE !!!!! YIKES !!!!! I HATE BUGS !!!!!

ОтветитьI fell madly in love with the extensive back story of Dr. No. A whole spinoff can form with even a series😍. Thanks for the book.
ОтветитьI love the way the Narrator voices HoneyRider like a Welsh girl from the valleys.
ОтветитьFound this one week ago and I'm already on my third listen of this marvelous novel. Just as interesting as it was the first time
Ответить❤ excellent
ОтветитьThanks for sharing
Wonderful narration
Dr No is my favorite 007 book along with Goldfinger
Sean Connery is my favorite Bond, and the only one in my humble opinion ❤
Two hours in and they already on the island ?

ОтветитьGood book, first time I've listened to a bond book. I kept picturing Sean Connery!
ОтветитьFleming at his most inventive. Marvellous villain and well-plotted story. The passages about Honeychile are hilarious in places but it does blend in with the overall story. Racial undertones throughout of course, with the author having a poke at the snobbery and upper-class snoots that were prevalent amongst the ex-pats of 50s Jamaica.
The narration was excellent, although I do wish they would use a female reader for the girl's dialogue!
I read a Fleming novel back in the sixties and didn't like it much. This, I like.
ОтветитьFor those who don't know the author served MI-6 or SAS or whatever Secret Service ancillaries existed in WWII. Yes, the author was a British spy. He often smoked a pipe, as the Brits love to do.
ОтветитьI didn't think radar could detect under 1 or 200 feet. Anyone know for sure?
ОтветитьIs "fuck" also written as "blank" in the novels, or did they censor the word for the audiobook version?
ОтветитьIs this simon vance?

ОтветитьThese books are very written and Vance's performance is perfectly accurate. I hated the last movie where they killed off Bond who just stood on a roof and let the missiles kill him. Then they turned Q into a Queer and MoneyPenny into a black woman who acts likes a 00 and not M's secretary. If they go woke and make Bond a black lesbian, then James Bond is truly dead.
ОтветитьI always chuckle when fans complain that the films were too fantastic and " unrealistic"As if the novels were grounded in reality and 'serious' thrillers
ОтветитьFleming really stretched out that climax.
Protracted almost beyond the reader's patience
Did not expect Dr. No's complaint to be so bizarre. I believe the movie is better.
ОтветитьJames Bond reborn!
ОтветитьSo politically incorrect, not even a little woke, so good😆👌
ОтветитьOf course these now very old books are entangled with a colonial and patriarchal reality that's long since changed, but I just find that another fascinating aspect to these thrillers. We don't have to agree with all attitudes and words etc used in these stories to enjoy their historical poignance and creativity.
