I have a crazy theory (skip if you want)what if dragon and Akainu are related somehow like distant cousins that are opposites one good one bad they grew up wanting justice so they joined the marines together to serve justice but dragon Releazied that they weren't serving justice they were just part of the world government's plan so he left after fighting Akainu and then served justice in his own way by starting the revolutionary army

Oda was gonna make 4 admirals but later made it 3, and the reason was Oda made like a story about a king had 4 pets
A dragon, a bird, a monkey and a dog
The bird was like flying freely so he left the king
The dragon knew about the evil king so he also left
The dog was loyal
And the monkey is being a monke
And this theory is something else because the King is Imu, the Dog is Akainu, The bird is Aokiji, and The Monkey was Kizaru

Well the Admirals were originally named after the companions of Momotaro, so Akainu [Red Dog], Aokiji [Blue Pheasant], and Kizaru [Yellow Monkey]. But with the addition of Fujitora [Purple Tiger] and Ryokugyu [Green Bull], their names are now just themed as color+animal. So I wouldn't be surprised if Oda used Monkey D. Dragon's name as a pun for Azure Dragon, cause that opens up the previous generations naming scheme to the 4 Cardinal Directions Guardians; the Azure Dragon, the White Tiger, Red Phoenix, and Black Turtle. So, seeing that the Tiger has already been used, there are still 2 more options to name the previous generation of Admirals
