ОтветитьIn 1994 a book by the title, Conditioning for Football was written by Indianapolis Colts Strength Coach Tom Zupancic.
What made this book different then others is Tom had the colts do what is now functional fitness.
Tom had some weird lifts like carrying a beer keg on your shoulder down and back. Then carry it on your other shoulder down and back. Then carry the keg in front of you.
Tom also was the first person i saw with kettlebells only he used pony kegs filled with led shot. 50, 75 and 100 lb pony kegs and you would grab the handles and swing the pony keg through your legs the forcibly contract your whole body to swing it back. He said it was better than power cleans and wrestlers could use it for conditioning and grip strength.
Tom also used tractor suitcase weights created a yoke walk with the weights. Also they dragged the weights and famers carried the weights.
Not to promote the Gitchusum bands but y’all need to get them if you work out. I have had a pair for several years. They are so versatile and durable. Don’t suck metal up. 🤘🏻

Until I can walk unaided I’m focused on bands. I don’t want to use weights in case I drop them on my fo (half a foot)

After adding training tips and knowledge from T.A.P.S as well as from combat strentgh training I have added a new level to my training. More importantly I am able to pass this knowledge to my shop patrons reinforcing these lessons while sharing knowledge. Knowledge hoarded is knowledge lost. Thanks for all the wisdom and experience that you share ROCK ON!!!

Being a trainer and gym owner, I see it all, and always stress to my clients the importance of all the aspects of exercise and functional movements to help their every day life. As a mentor of mine would say though, the exercise doesn’t have to look like the skill to help improve the skill though. Exercise, hormetic stressors (deliberate cold and heat) and recovery are so crucial to our resiliency and longevity. Thanks for helping spread the word!!
ОтветитьYou are the expert so i wanna ask: i got good results using the traditional gym split to get back into shape (5 ft 10, 207 went back to 171 pounds). Now that i am in a more comfortable weight, functional fitness is all i do. BUT i would say classic gym works for fitness models, getting back from an injury AND ALSO getting back into some sort of shape, so once you are there you can start with combat fitness training...is that ok? Or combat streght training would have worked just as fine??

ОтветитьAt 59, I have been practicing a "Something is better than nothing" philosophy of working out every day along with "Don't eat bullshit" dietary regimen. Over the past 3 or so years I've lost 50 lbs and im pretty damn good shape. This CST concept hits home for me because I know that if I move the wrong way--I'm going to injury myself.

ОтветитьIn the Marine Corps back in the late 80s early 90s we ran with that old flack jacket, ran in mopp levels plus obstacle course on a regular basis.
Ответить"Too heavy too soon"! Indeed, this is especially important. Muscles grow a lot faster than tendons and ligaments. You want injuries that will sideline you, go too heavy, too soon.
ОтветитьWhen I retired from active duty in 2009, I had the pleasure of meeting a special individual who told me: exercise to be at your best at your worst...pulling someone from a burning bld or vehicle accident, saving yourself or loved one, terrible treatments for a terrible disease. Always good contents on here.

ОтветитьI’m becoming anal about my sleep schedule. I think it makes a big difference. I’m 40 and overweight. I’m trying to walk 3 miles a day again. I’ve introduced push ups as well. I did 3 miles uphill already without stopping after a month or so. 3.1 mph on a treadmill at 3-6.5 incline. My hips are killing me daily I need to stretch them out first or something.
