I was on iguana island and the pig island just last year beautiful places!

I like how people are acting that this is a bad thing to happen to a wild animal. Or if they’re not acting, how ignorant they are. He didn’t know the animal was endangered, that is a mistake. Something could have gone wrong, etc etc. But it didn’t. And what happened here wasn’t traumatic or threatening to the iguana. It’s a wild iguana. It’s a wild animal. Their entire lives are more traumatic than what happened here. That’s what it means to be a wild animal. If there is a cold spell they get to the verge of freezing to death, and then when it gets hot they almost fry. They sunbathe and a predator almost eats them, then they get in the water and the same occurs. They are constantly on the verge of starving to death throughout their lives. And their own species will maim or kill them if they are in competition for a mate.

That is the life of a wild animal. They aren’t stressed out and traumatized by the one time a guy held them for a min or two. Or maybe more appropriately, they aren’t any more stressed out than they are 24/7, 100% of their lives. Their lives aren’t some Disney channel movie of forest creatures living in paradise.

Does that mean take free rein and go do whatever you like to them? No. Not at all. But, literally 100% of people I have ever met caught some sort of animal growing up. Fish, frogs, lizards (anoles), butterflies, snakes, crickets, lightning bugs, etc. and to my knowledge no one I know were purposefully torturing them or maiming them. And, odds are basically 100% of them turned out fine, considering their lives are all one miserable hellscape after the next as a baseline. Point being, you can definitely say “hey man, you don’t have to do that”. The people freaking out like this is some war crime or he’s participating in some ecological disaster are absolute lunatics. Calm the hell down. If one guy catching and releasing one of your species unharmed hurts the future outlook of your entire species in any way, you’re already going extinct. It won’t be humanities fault. It won’t be anyone’s fault. That species is just not built to survive anymore. Because that is the most trivial, non-consequential thing to ever happen to a species in the history of the world. “The world” is going to throw 1,000,000X more than that at 100% of beings on this planet. So calm the hell down.

Howdy everyone, I appreciate the knowledgeable comments regarding the Iguana :) To my knowledge, the reptile is a northern Bahamian rock Iguana. They are endangered, and I wasn’t aware of this during the time I caught it. I am not one to bother endangered species. So yea, that was fairly ignorant of me. My bad!
