Dear Kirk, except the advantage of being able to use natural uranium isn't used because it produces more spent nuclear fuel.
If instead you put a Th-Pu mix into a CANDU the better Th neutron production + lower noble gas production allows for longer burnup cycles, which produces less fission products and reprocessing SNF from mostly Thorium fuel needs only to remove the fission products and add just enough Pu/Th to restore fissile / fertile ratios and can be reused (don't need aquous reprocessing).
