This video got everything wrong. No mentioning of multiple atempts of The Soviet Union to create alliance to stop the nazis. Niether was the sympathy of England and France for fascist was and hatered for the communists mentined. Neither was anti comintern pact between Germany and Japan was mentioned, which was the alliance made to force USSR into two front war and destroy it. Or niether did the video mentione the Japanese invasion of the Mongolia, Soviet Unions ally.

So Britain declared war on Germany but not Soviet Union for invading Poland? Germany should have invaded after the Soviets attacked Poland.

The only reason why Stalin went with the non-aggression pact with Germany was because his initial plan of forming an alliance with France and Britain failed as they didn't trust him.

Stalin was no fool because he knew Hitler's word was no good,he knew that it wouldn't be a question of if Hitler invaded the USSR,but when.

Through the pact, Stalin knew that he could by himself time to prepare for the inevitable Nazi invasion, buying time included acquiring more territory.

Stalin knew a German invasion would center on 3 main goals:

Moscow
Kiev
Leningrad

So the more territory Stalin could acquire, the greater the buffer he could put between Germany and its 3 prime targets in an invasion of the USSR

Hard to understand that at the time, Germany could've steam rolled through the USSR at the time of the pact. For Stalin, it was survival. (A lot of people say it was out of mutual evil)

France and the UK also signed "deals" with Germany earlier (Munich Agreement, or the Czech Betrayal)... Stalin saw the writing on the wall, really. UK and France would've loved to have seen the Germans march east and rid them of the though that a Socialist project would actually succeed.

This is all bunk. Stalin had no expansionary ambitions, independent countries joined democratically of their own free will. Second there is NO primary sources that state that Stalin hired Molotov to appease Hitler, quite the opposite, that's just western chauvinism. I dare you to prove to me there was a secret agreement between Hitler and Stalin to divide Europe, I DARE YOU. The USSR did not "JOIN" Nazi Germany in their invasion of Poland. When it was clear that Poland was under the control of the German Army, the USSR began it's liberation. Read some primary sources. As for the following paragraph of nonsense about Stalin "taking over" countries as he defended them from Nazis, it's just so wrong I don't know where to start. Oh, and since you seem to be under the impression that this treaty was some big deal, the USSR was the LAST country after ALL other European countries had made similar non-aggression agreements with Germany.

Missing some key elements. Probably because they show britains complicity. You forget the Germans rushed into the pact, because the brittish were offering their own pact with Stalin, which Hitler had to better. Also, war with Poland was not an original intention, littler just wanted secure access to danzig, which the poles refused, because of strong promises of support from the French, and half hearted misunderstood promises from the brittish. Had access been granted, there was a good chance there would have been no war in the west, and Hitler would have waited for the soviets to attack him, or better someone else.

I consider this video penance for the borders in the Denmark episode.

This episode was originally going to be about the Sinking of the Bismarck but since everyone had covered it fairly recently I've opted to cover this instead.

Hope you enjoy.
