What most people do not realise probably is that Oddball, Moriarty and people like them most likely came from prisons all over America. When US Army had shortage of new troups, they went around prisons and offered prisoners to be let go from prison in exchange for going to war. Most of them accepted the offer and many of them eventually became true heros of the war. Sadly, most of them never returned alive as they were used mostly for deadilest missions as higher ups knew they couldn't say no otherwise it would mean going back to prison for them.

Ответить

A classic - everyone was great - Clint, Telly, Stu Margolin, Carol, Rickles, etc - BUT - Sutherland stole the film - however Oddball was written, it was Donald who brought him to life - he deserved an Oscar for his performance - RIP DS

The Character of Oddball was based on a Real Tank Commander during WWII
he was the highest scoring German Tank Ace in the German Wehrmacht called Kurt Knispel
he never rose above the rank of Sergeant due to his for that time ,somewhat unorthodox Goatee Beard ,longer than regulation hair and disdain for the Officer classes he served in the Wehrmacht and was mortally wounded just before wars end and died in a Field Hospital from his wounds ..
