Yea sounds great but what I don’t understand is how are you paying your property taxes? From what the statistics show📈 property taxes are going up each year by 23% and in some states 48% and let’s say you sell eggs and logs to make a living you would still have to pay taxes on that as well so are you really off the grid or are you just living this way simply to save money on paying for a typical mortgage utility bills and to have better profit margins if so that’s smart of you but the point I’m trying make is that you are off the grid but still have the same obligations to comply with the laws and you don’t state that in the video, so I gotta explain to my co workers that the guy is living a peaceful life, but he still gotta pay the property tax and every other tax that comes with life!

Your freedom is limited by how much of comfort and conveniences you are able to abandon. There is tons of land around the world where law and civilisation don't reach.

The financial aspect can be done with out disconnecting from the grid. Doing this purely for the financial aspect is just dumb. My father basically lives this way.

I live basically on the out skirts of town. At 45 I have a 3500sqft house and meet your financial reasons for living off the grid. I also have my own setup that if the grid goes down yes i would notice, but I could easily with in minutes be operating with out the grid. This is due to my hardwork and managing my finances which both are relevant to off grid living as well

The whole thing of one benefitting from their own labor by living off the grid. This is a fallacy or naive way of thinking. Instead of chopping wood your daily job benefits your life. Its all work and if people just looked at it that way as a means to an end they would be much better off. Too many people want control and control is an illusion even off grid living you are not in control Mother Nature is and to some extent she is even in control when looking at city living.

This post isn't to down play the benefits but to maybe help some others see that they do not need to go to this extreme in order to get a lot of the benefits. Most of the people i see entering the workforce now days could not handle living off the grid because of the amount of work it takes. This work is satisfying to some and provides a need for them and I applaud those that find this purpose, but this purpose can be found elsewhere in todays society also.

For me personally i am looking to leave the corporate rat race, but i know living like this isn't for me or my family. I do buy a lot of my food from locals ranchers and farmer market as the food is significantly better both in taste and health. This gives people like you money to live the way you do. With that being said it is possible to have many of the objective advantages in a suburb property that you have with out the objective disadvantages.

Why is my area saying I still need permits for everything? And septic? Permit for yurt. Even with compost toilet still need septic. This isn’t making sense. Maybe I need to be in complete wilderness. I don’t know.

Dude I get it we are newly off grid, sold our way to expensive city house took the profits and now we live in a small cabin in the woods. My husband couldn't do his job anymore and was able to change to an easier, les stress full job with less money cause now we can!!! I can't work a traditional job because of a head injury. Living in the woods helps me loads. No running water, outhouse, wood stove, to be honest I don't even miss all the conveniences of our old place. I do everything by hand, it's slow but but for me slow is excellent!!! I do loads of work around the property and you are right harvesting firewood is so satisfying!!! Building anything is satisfying as well!!! We have loads of projects but we are doing one at a time, learning along the way. Since we have no mortgage or debts we only do projects when we have the money to do them, being debt free is a good feeling, not needing a bunch of money to live is also a good feeling! As I establish gardens, chickens.... we will gain even more peace of mind! When we were I. The city I used that time to learn and practice gardening years round, we are in Canada but very close to Main. We were almost self sufficient in vegetables and fruit!!! Ps the Adirondacks are beautiful, before my accident we would go hike twice a month, sadly I can't do that anymore but I keep very found memories. I wish you well!

We spend a ton of time in our Airstream off grid. Water bags and Milwaukee m18 pump, water solved. Solar and Diesel generator built into back of truck got power solved. Starlink allows us to manage our business from wherever we are, but just living for us this way is not cheaper, and definitely not easier but we love being out of the rat race in beautiful places

Good for you that's wonderful, I bet you feel better, the city is toxic and this is the better way to live. Let me say this people are conditioned to the modern conveniences and that fancy with a phat mortgage, but don't realize anything can happen in life and a person could lose it all. Every day in California hundreds of people are losing their homes from not being able to pay back taxes and this Gov doesn't care. When that happens anyone with a few grand can come in and swoop that property in their pocket all for the cost of back taxes it's all the county wants. Many properties are never auctioned as people are choosey of what homes they will pay back taxes on. Everyone needs to live off the grid it is freedom or as close as you will get to it.
