I am in my second year of nursing school (I am from Europe, studying in northern Italy), what can I say I am totally depressed and listless to continue. I did the hospital internship and it was very frustrating, plus nursing school is really challenging and expensive, they fail very easily on exams. They demand health care excellence and then go and do an underpaid and stressful job in terms of working hours. I am 27 years old, I miss finishing my second year and third year and then I am going to go to work as a nurse. I am very worried about my future. I have thought several times about quitting but I have no idea what to do, in Italy in general there is little work for those without specialized qualifications. I am really sad, I am afraid of getting sick. I go to a psychologist to try to relieve my stress and malaise. Being a nurse even in Europe is becoming a wearing job.

Kudos for you🎉 do you what you enjoy and not what others want you to do. I too come from an Asian household. Glad you have a very supportive partner. Nurses are great and make a lot of money but it’s not for everyone. Especially if you see the dark side like with any other job. But thank for this video. Very moving. ❤

i work at a hopsital and beenn in many hospitals .. there some peoplewho should not be nursesor doctors from the way they treat patients to and disregard for caring for anyone . health care now days its about the numbers $$ not the patient..

Idk I thought nursing was more cool stuff like injections and everything but all it actually was is cleaning peoples shit and everything. It’s not something I want to do. I know there’s so many paths in nursing but I don’t have the patience and mentality to have to do like 1-3 years of experience in something I don’t like just to get somewhere else that I may not enjoy

Just starting college to make my way into nursing. After hearing what you said I’m a little scared for what might come as I continue nursing. Still wanna continue but it was nice to know what to expect when working in that profession.

I totally see what you mean and what you had to deal with on a daily. I myself is a Patient Tech and some nurses expected you to do everything because thats "your job" and boy the many times I see some nurses just talking shit about their patients and how rude they would talk to them and it's sad because it's very rare that you see nurses who does love what they do not base on their paid rate.

Im in with kids who were pushed to become nurses. They wont even touch patients...just want to get payed. I am told often how nice I am for a nurse. Its really sad. They are mean to new nurses

I think the generation before stayed in their nursing job longer until they retired coz maybe theres not much of a choice b4 in terms of where to work again, career change, idk,or maybe bcz of their genuine care and compassions to patients. Idk, id like to talk to someone who has been a nurse for 15 20 30yrs+++ and ask what made them stay at their job. Must be their dedication.

Nursing is a great profession. You will meet doctors, engineers and various other professional left their profession for Nursing. It is flexible. 3 days work and 4 days off. Some works extra shift if they wish to. RNs can select tele nursing, management, education and various other roles. It is not always easy and not always difficult. It is decent paying job better than lot of other professions.

Props to you. I hated nursing school but bought the lie everyone said that working as a nurse would be better. 4 years later I hate nursing even more than I did at school. It’s led to GERD and GAD. So I’m quitting to and changing career paths. Healthcare in 2024 is shit.

I tried working in dialysis for Duhvita all got was more of the same to many chiefs and over worked staff. After 25 years I said F it.

I had been a nurse for 20 years and one thing I realized nursing is not for my pleasure, it's the gift that God gives you to help others. Nurses must understand the reward is in the healing of the patient, the healing of the family. Every patient is not going to be nice, every hospital will not agree with your advice, every employee you have will not be supportive, but God has given you a skill to save a life, and no one can take that away. At any moment anyone can become a patient, and because you continue in nursing you learn little jewels that can help you save a life. I absolutely love nursing. I love all the people I helped to live, All the people I helped to talk them out of suicide, all the patients that had strokes and heart attacks that I helped to recognize, and get them the resources they needed. Nursing will never be a job for me, it's who God has called me to be. In any profession the things you discuss in this video can happen, but I hear you talk about that excitement you had, Don't allow that to burn out, because that could be the same excitement used to save your parents life. I just really hate this happened to you because nursing is truly beautiful, but like anything beautiful, Beauty only comes from within. I pray you have a change of heart, and fall in love with a career that has changed my whole life. Love you nursing sister.

My older sister who is 23 years old, She was in nursing too and she was nursing for 6 years and As since we are Asian too we were also told to like be nurses, doctors and like any of those Whatever because like you said our parents told us its more successful. After the 6 years she felt like nursing wasn't for her because of the also bad experiences. So ya we also basically had the same story.

I am in IT for many years and now wanting to switch to Nursing. Even if you have doubts about your choice you have tried and you can still try something else. Going into the “right”field does not mean you won’t want to change it after.

That’s crazy. I’m about to graduate in a month and it took me 5 years to get my degree as well. I’m majoring in psychology and 4 months ago I decided I didn’t want to go get a master’s or work in psychology. I’m studying to get a CCNA certification for networking. I’m almost ready to take the certification in a month or so.

bedside nursing is tough, no doubt. But there are many other types of nursing. But bedside nursing is foundation though

You can do Nursing Informatics perhaps. So that your 5 years in school were not done in vain.

I am losing my passion as well. I started hating it after becoming a pct and my first time in school. The second time around. I am nearly over it. The goal is to further my education to avoid the bedside. Too toxic, too understaffed

Never watched any of your videos. But coming from watching your shorts, this the most calm I've ever seen you. That being said, I'm going through a career break myself and decided to take up retail since I can afford to not get paid more after trying to pursue animation. It feels nice to have this video recommended to me and made me feel less alone since my family is a "work in office or nothing" kind of people. Animation was nice but it never worked out for me but maybe it works more as a hobby.

So happy you made the change when you did and did not get convinced otherwise by family. As someone that came from a similar upbringing I wish I had a better mental mind frame to notice the signs and not take it as the typical cultural way that “it’s not good enough” or if you quit now “you’re a failure.” The pressure and the stigma from how we are brought up is more intense than anything else. So I commend you for chasing what you love 🎉🎉🎉 100 on all the aspects you covered … healthcare is painted as this picture perfect scenario and then when you get there it’s a bunch of political hierarchy bullshit. It’s like high school on steroids probably worse. At the end of the day it IS unfortunate as for instance that patient you spoke about cdiff… a majority of the times patients end up staying longer BECAUSE some leave them that way. I’ve seen it all and so happy you are voicing out the truth!!! You’re awesome and so happy you are walking down a different path❤

That's just so precious that you have this maturity and being able to be yourself at such a young age while most of the adults out there can only act like adults but no emotional intelligence/maturity at all😮 love you guys and your authenticity ❤❤❤

I had similar experiences working as a nursing assistant (im guessing same as a tech in the US) during nursing school. It was not until I became an RN did other nurses treat me with respect. Alot of nurses discriminate staff based on heirarchy. There were so many shifts where I cried during break because I was treated like a dog. If it was not for the asistants I'd be juggling all the ADLs and vital sign duties on my own.

Wow thank you for sharing. I wanted to go to nursing but as I did the classes I realize it’s not for me. And I pursue becoming an educator substitute teacher. It work out till I got injured by a student and I became physically disable and things weren’t the same. My husband saw the love I had for teaching slowly die and become fear. Till now I’m still trying to find my path and my husband had shown support something I wouldn’t be able to do without him. I’m thinking of pursuing IT but I’m not sure yet. Good luck in your future path and may you continue to pursue something you love with your husband. Also I love your videos they always make me smile even when I’m feeling down.

Hi Michelle, I am a physician who works in a hospital with many nurses everyday. What you have said is sadly very true, and I sympathize with your struggles during nursing training. I see nurses as indispensable allies in health care with skillsets that complements physicians'. A good nurse is easily worth his/her weight in gold. I always stand up for my nurses when I feel that a patient is being rude or abusive. Kudos to nurses, especially ones working in hospital.

Wau I feel exactly like that, I thought this profession would be incredible, I thought it would be more exciting or that I would feel more helpful, but instead I feel constantly tired, I often question whether I choose the right course 😭 and before that I thought that I could overcome everything, but now I feel firsthand what it's like to go through that and I don't just want to do my job, I want to be able to feel passion in doing it, I don't want to be devalued in my own work environment, I don't want to count the hours to go although 😭, that's why he decides to change course and actually before I had a lot of fear and disappointment, but now I feel more confident

Girl I'm on the same boat. I'm 25 now, graduated 2 years ago with my B.S. in Psych but realizing that I want a career change and now I'm pursuing ultrasound. I resonate with you that it's soo hard not to compare :( All my younger friends already out there making good money, loving what they do, while I'm here having a crisis that I'm going back to school to do something completely different. It feels like I wasted my time but like you said, I try to remind myself that we all have different paces and we went through all this for a reason. In the end, it's never too late to chase your dreams. I'm so thankful for my boyfriend too for supporting me with this major life decision, I would've been so miserable without him because I most likely would have never committed to this career change.
(also, youre so right about the toxic nursing work environment. I've been working at a nursing facility for a year, it's honestly so disheartening.)

I actually feel the same too. I graduated from ME and thought that I have to follow my peers path to jump in the maanufacturing things. After 3 years, it turned out that I got depressed as I moved to more technical job. I really loath it. I even fainted on my way to my workspace because of uncontained emotions. Then, I decided to leave the job and try to start what I've been wondering : secret. I hope you'll be happy for what you are doing❤

IT is a better career path than nursing. I’m 30 in the IT field,I have a lot of friends who are nurses who have to work a lot for lower pay than me. I work from home, great work life balance get 6 figures, stay home with my toddler, always be able to go to my kids events and didn’t have to work so hard in school to do this. Again everyone has a different opinion but from my experience IT gives you a better lifestyle.

I can completely relate to this having worked with seniors for many years, and as a caregiver for almost 13 years. I lo e the 1:1 so much more, but I have worked in care homes, and saw what you are talking about regarding trying to fill beds in t least one place. They were accepting people that were obviously not right for the type of facility. It was heartbreaking, and I had to advocate for myself regarding staffing as well. Political s is real, and being short staffed is real. Seeing even csregi ers that do not care or even family members who do. It care is real. Granted I have been fortunate since doing 1:1 to see that most families do care. Also, when nurses come In or other healthcare staff, and the ones that look down on us because we are on a lower rung. We are Ll here to provide for thebcliant or patient, and justajebitbthrough thebday or nightbon those longer shifts. It shouldn't be this way.
