Really enjoyed his photoworks episode. Thanks for showcasing the book so beautifully here.
ОтветитьAmazing video, Bryan! Very unconventional photo book overview. Oh gosh, I love photo books! ❤
ОтветитьCompelling video and quite a photo book you've made there. For me there's a sense of lost youth and a kind of desolation - the desolation of the landscape and surrounds seems to be reflected somewhat in your subjects. I love that you are interested in people's stories - that's something I try to convey with my photography too. Haven't touched my Chamonix 4x5 in a few years - really need to do something. Many thanks for the inspiration mate and cheers from Sydney, Dave
ОтветитьI flipped this book in the Henri Cartier Bresson Foundation in Paris… what a book, really a rare beautiful one
ОтветитьThis book was on my list before I blew the last of my photobook budget and now you're making me regret not grabbing it. Had to pre-order Schutmaat's new book and then picked up Skinningrove (Killip), Malparaiso (Suassi), and Monument (Parke) so Dogbreath fell just below the line.
ОтветитьNice video, but the music didn't seem that fitting.
ОтветитьGreat video for the book. I have loved Matthew’s work for some time now. Surreal to see my name in the story :)
ОтветитьDude your videos only get better. Thank you for this.
Ответитьsick vid man!!
ОтветитьGood work as always! Also, as an old man, would you rather use a cane or a staff and why?
Ответитьauthentic, love it. You definitely touch on a point where Films and Music seem to be playing a lessor role shaping the youth of today.
ОтветитьGreat video. Would love to chat with Matthew about his book! So much to discover.
ОтветитьMaking a new language by bringing together memory of punk, punk videos, taking stills of video, feeding photos back into the TV and rephotographing them. Combining that memory and process with the current geography, architecture and human subjects. Allowing the flow of ideas and processes to communicate this new found language. It feels right because that’s who you are described through photography.
ОтветитьTrespasser Books are absolutely killing it right now, my absolute favourite publisher. Great video Bryan, missed you buddy! Hoppe you do another of these videos for Bryan Schutmaat's upcoming book too as that looks amazing!
ОтветитьJust my opinion mate but I think your work surpasses this. This book feels like it lacks cohesion or direction. What is it trying to say to me, teach me, impart in me? Your work is different. It’s original and attempts to embody the people that are photographed. Just my opinion tho….
ОтветитьI love art. I love the struggle. I didn't understand a single moment of this video, felt confused right from the opening shot. But isn't that the point of art? To make you feel something? I hope so.
ОтветитьAmazing video. I'm definitely picking up this book.
Ответить👍👍👍
ОтветитьAnother great video, Bryan! Thanks for sharing it here. Is that Genitempo's quote at the very beginning? I recognize it but don't recall where I first read/heard it.
ОтветитьThis one is hard for me as a Tucson resident.
The photos are beautiful and I don't want to take away from that, but this feels like such a narrow slice of what life is like here that it borders on exploitative. The city is vibrant, colorful, and the standard of living here for many is lightyears away from what I'm taking from the narrative. I'll fully recognize and acknowledge that there are many people here who struggle, and this serves as a reminder of that, but focusing on the city feels like a forced attempt to build a narrative that doesn't exist in reality.
Perhaps I'm too close to the subject and finding it hard to separate the people from the place in this work, but this tends to be a common thread when Tucson is discussed.
great work
ОтветитьIt's amazing that so many photographers are still copying Gossage and Schmidt 50 years later. This is so reminiscent of Ein-heit and Waffenrue. The youth, the punk themes and rephotographing screens for example. Of course with Schmidt there is so much more weight to the work given what was happening in Germany at the time.
Despite this it's a much better book book than I thought it would be and the quality of the photos is what brings it home for me. He is very talented.
I like this. For some reason it reminds me of Chris Killip's work in Skinningrove, although I do think Killip's work is on another level so I might be biased. Thank you!
ОтветитьReally enjoyed this one, Bryan.
ОтветитьIncredible 🎉
Ответитьa lot of the comments on this video are clearly from people who don’t understand what they’re looking at, or old heads that cant wrap their head around projects that aren’t afraid to experiment. perfect music choice, incredible photos, and incredible photo book + story
ОтветитьGreat photo book , appreciate the video but found the music quite distracting
Ответитьthis was really good! thank you for sharing. I loved the editing, the music and the phase of which each photo was portrayed. Again, thanks a lot for sharing!
ОтветитьEverything about this video is superb. Obviously buying the book right now. What else can I do? :-)
ОтветитьI think the music/audio you chose for this video kind of does the work a disservice. It doesn’t deserve music so eerie. Great work regardless and loved hearing from Matthew himself.
ОтветитьGood shit. Love that you went 4x5. It hits hard.
ОтветитьThis is the first video of yours that I’ve watched and I’m so glad it came up on my feed. Not only did you introduce me to a new photo book, but also a new podcast. Looking forward to watching more of your videos!
Ответитьwow, thanks for makin this piece. didnt know bout the book but am very glad to have found out about it via this fine lil movie. keep up the good work, much love <3
ОтветитьAs a broad question, how would people classify this style of photography (and the style of Trespasser generally)? I find all the 'standard' categories of photography are just inadequate when it's a mix of abstract, landscape, documentary and portraiture like this. I've heard the term "neo landscape" banded around?
ОтветитьAwesome video. I love the music/background sounds. Great narration and commentary. Thank you for sharing this art. Thanks to Dove too :)
ОтветитьThanks for the awsome video! Very inspiring
ОтветитьWow, amazing editing and work, thank you so much for sharing and taking the time with each page. I assume it's Matthew speaking, which gives it an even deeper meaning. The soundtrack, is that by Michael A. Muller?
ОтветитьHi Bryan, during the last weeks I watchef a lot - not all but a lot - of your videos. I really like them, your approach to documentary photography is admirable and the photos you take are simply fantastic. Go on and best regrds from Germany … Andreas
