Back in the early 70's I sold magazines door to door nation wide and Alaska. It was an honest living. We were all independent contractors for National Circulation. I made a living doing it and I really do miss it. I spent most if my time hiring and training others. The company also published two magazines. We were licensed and bonded, and it helped greatly. Always check to see if the sales person is locally registered and licensed. I went back to visit several homes a second time to sell more magazines and it was very enjoyable. When we found people that had been scammed by companies like Union, we filled out a two part card for the people. Half they kept and the other half went directly to the FTC. The folks ended up getting a refund or their magazines. Perhaps we did not get a sale there but it helped clean up the business. Companies like Union paid thousands of dollars per day in fines for operating but they kept it up because profiits from their scam must have been huge. Cleaning up the business actually helped all of us. It has been years since a door to door magazine salesperson has knocked on my door but I would be glad to invite them in and carry on. Yes, I gladly buy when they knock on my door and are licensed.
