those issues you stated are foresure not really important. even now it beats every other camera for a hybrid in both fields at $4k lol, only other camera i would go for that works amazing in both fields is the a1 but its like pretty much $7k 😳🤯

I’ve had it in my cart for 3 months… watching every review and trying to talk myself out of purchasing it because of the price. However the only real complaint I’m seeing are from people that use it predominantly for video. I don’t shoot video much at all so I think I’m going to grab it.

There are other cameras out there. It’s not worth the price with all these cons. $3500 and can’t use it for client work…really… I’m not a hater but also not a fanboy. Saying it as it is.

Hey dude, it's a photo camera 1 that also records video 2. So if your complaining about video just buy a video camera and stop moaning. But I bet it takes great photos. Ever tried that part of the camera ???

I just want to point out that DSLRs are film cameras with video recording options. As much as they are improving in video, their primary function is to capture stills.

If Adobe doesn’t support the camera video outputs that means Adobe is behind. As of today in 2022 most if not all of these so called “issues” have been addressed. Besides that the primary function of this tool is photography not video. If you want video just purchase the R5c model . R5 has been the best camera I have ever used in my humble professional life.

So image stabilization in the lens is good but in body is bad? I use a 24-105 f4 with IS and in my opinion video looks better with IS on than without due to hand shake. Using 5d3, so no IBIS. But I wonder what other's experience is. Maybe r5c is better for video and r5 is better for photo?

I've shot Canon for 25 years but probably won't be going to this.

Peter Mckinnon show that the wobble is gone with the firmware v1.2.something and the overheating is gone with 1.6. I'm getting this camera, was stuck between this and the a7r V. This has as I believe better video capabilities than the a7r V which is what I need, a great stills + robust video camera but not a dedicated video camera coz carrying two of them is a pain for me.

That HEVC aka H.265 slow editing issue is definitely an issue of Premiere, generally all Adobe products on Intel Macs are slow. All Intel Macs having the T2 chip (fingerprint reader) can handle HEVC hardware based and fast, the ARM (M1, M2) Macs anyway. Your claim Premiere is the most widely used editing software might be correct - only for Windows users. On Mac it’s for sure FCP and DaVinci Resolve. - Even Photoshop and LrC are on a crappy PC much faster as on the most expensive Intel Mac, a result of Adobe’s strategically miss-decision to no longer support Macs when Apple launched FCP, the original one, the current one is FCPX, the X got lost the last few years. After 4 yrs not covering Mac, Pr was back to Mac with CS3, 4 yrs they couldn’t catch up. Until it was necessary to completely revise and rewrite the code because of M1. But Pr is still at least 10 x slower as FCP and DVR (DaVinci Resolve)

look at the bright side if you ever had to use a camera without stabilization... you have it in your lens...

Don't blame the camera because you didn't do research in the beginning. This is why they made the R5C for film making. It's not Canons fault.

In my opinion, you don't buy a camera that costs thousands for photo and video. If video is so important to you, buy a video camera for video. you'll probably get more options and better quality overall.

Great video and great things to point out. As I only shoot photos I think this will be a great camera for me but since the r5 mk2 will be out soon, I'll just wait a bit more, the r6 is also doing an amaIng job for me cureently

Canon R5 a Cheapo crappy Polycarbone build compare to the REAL Classic 5DMK1,2,3,4. What a Shame! The problem with all current modern mirrorless cameras in general, they are All Lacking Character Filmic Look. The images are too Clean, too Sharp, too Artificial, color skin tone... Not a Fan!! You need to work HARD in post-processing to make them look like Dreamy look, Kodak Portra 400, Cinestill 400 and 800 Graining of Film 35mm back in 80s and 90s.

I ordered the R5 and it's coming today, I'll be making a video about my thoughts as well :)

Highly considering buying this in the late winter 2025 due to its budget friendly price.

Supposedly the overheating issue got patched with an update about a year ago. It no longer requires a wait time to cool down when shooting video.

R5 is the best camera I ever had, by far. I mostly do animal and macro photography

I’ve seen plenty of videos with the r5 and see no problem but when move like you do being center and close there is a tendency to distort with the background

This camera is good from what i have gathered so far but now you said it overheats when you want to use it for wedding, so what camera do you recommend for photography and videos. Including music videos.

How long do I need to record video before experiencing overheating

It's good to know that in 2025 the overheating problem is pretty much gone and modern computers and editing software have zero trouble using H.265.

What do you guys think?? Should I stick with the R5, or try something else!?
