Looking at the comments commanders, it's getting boring being told to stop the hate. Playing Elite since 1984 on my bbc - bought specifically for the game.
I love Elite and that's why folk like me call out shite when we smell it. Frontier are abusing our child, we want more for the game not odyssey it's poor compared to other on foot planetary games, being a long standing Elite fan I expected better - I cite one of many examples, why oh why can't we walk around our ship or walk off it?
Frontier are no longer leaders, that's sad. I will at some point, reluctantly buy odyssey for the simple fact that like most, I will enjoy walking on a planet. 07 commanders.\

Oddysey is the main reason I just recently joined ED and I have no regrets so far... having space legs, landing on planets, and walking around the starports is awesome to me... it's not all about bounty hunters... I do enjoy discovering new life and the heists in the land settlements... that's the main reason I've migrated from Eve Online, for the space legs...

would be outstanding to have ship interiors, so we won't have to go to Starfield and Star Citizen... I love ED because of the space legs...

@Fdevs strongly dislike the grinding tho'... if anyone is listening, do something about that balancing, rewards vs effort ratio needs improvement...

3rd party sites are the way to go indeed. I got it for less than $9 and am having a blast raiding settlements. Suit already upgraded to grade 5. Weapons well under way to grade 5 too. The grind isn't that hard if you work efficiently.

As much it sounds cool, I don't think these normal stuffs that are supposed to be in the game to begin with should cost anything. It's part of open world games. Why put a price tag on it. It's just greedy and lazy dlc from devs. Pay to walk LMFAO

I wish odyssey was on console but I understand why it isn't. My problem was when they couldn't get one dlc on console and then decided to screw over half their player base by cancelling all console development. Odyssey isn't quite what we expected fully but it's still good and getting better. But I can't forgive how quickly they abandoned us. Those of you who still play on console like me and those of you on any version of elite on pc, be careful. It's only a matter of time before they abandon us too

I have a Keelback with a moon buggy on board I put together years ago and recently took it out for a spin, somehow boarding the ship bought up a few interesting missions that involved landing on planets and gathering materials, the experience wasn't very lucrative but it was nice to see that Elite had something else on offer.

Went with a new steam account for a completely fresh start a couple of months back. I was surprised at just how much odyssey added to the game.
The only downside to it so far for me is a lack of variation in the moons and planets compared to horizons which had some truly stunning land based sights.
The exobiology quickly proved the most profitable way to rapidly get the coin back to a respectable level and I’m having quite a fun and challenging time with on foot quests.
I understand the frustration some players have with the grind but can’t get my head around the hate. To be honest, the constant whinging is starting to come across as childish and attention seeking, if you don’t like it simply play something else, it’s not like there isn’t other options.

1) I can drive a car on planets without DLS. The car is more comfortable and faster than on foot (with air conditioning).

2) Exobiology - activity cut off from the entire content. I can't do anything about it, just sell it and it won't affect anything.

3) The hub is the same in all stations and there are no activities in it. I can't riot at the station, I can't shoot, I can't steal someone else's ship. All functions are faster through the menu and there is no reason to leave the ship. (Just to watch someone get their feet stuck in the wall)

4-5) On-foot missions - like all Odyssey content, it has nothing to do with the main gameplay, it's just something you can try. The costume and all "walking" content is created for itself, and does not affect other activities in any way.

The only real reason to buy Odyssey is access to the online mode on the server where most of the players play.
This would make sense if the content in the game was aimed at interacting with other players. But the game, on the contrary, tries to do everything so that the players do not interact with each other. I can't resupply my friends, I can only watch them destroy tragoids/pirates, or show them.
With the release of Odyssey, it's no longer an online game. This is just a space simulator, and if you have fps drops in horizons, it will be unrealistic to play in the odyssey. Even if it says that the system requirements are suitable.

Also, hardly anyone likes developers who introduce mandatory DLCs, otherwise you will not be able to access the main content (or go online on a shared server).
Yesterday it was horizons, today it's an odyssey, an odyssey is not needed, but I have to buy it. Tomorrow they will introduce the interior of the ships, they will sell it as a DLC for playing on the main server, and I will again be forced to buy. Well, I do not.

Stratum for the win! I must say however, that I rarely bother to get out on foot. Normally I would not think to do so when on a planet unless it is required (Stratum for the win). I pretty much play Horizons game play while in Odyssey. It is worth picking up if it is on sale. Giving someone a lift in your ship is sometimes cool. Material Grind for suits is a whole other level of grind. I gave up after getting a Maverick from Grade 3 to 5 (why can't I just buy that) so technically, I have not engineered a single thing and I am so done with that.

I bought Odyssey a few months ago and it is great. They improved a lot. I was sceptical to move from Legacy to Odyssey, but it was a big win. The new graphics are great, in ultra a dream. Of course you need decent hardware. I run an i7 4Ghz with RTX 3060 in ultra settings with stable 60 fps 1080p. Walking in ships is sadly missing as well as on foot VR. My two main points of criticism.

I dunno i just cant do it with ED, everything they make is self contained, no systems connect. You just pick a system and grind it ad nasuium. All the "depth" just comes from grinding forever and ever. Ill never forget the day i quit i saved up for some expensive ass ship and when i finally got it, i realized all i would be doing with it is the exact same fucking thing. It was great for 100 or so hours but frontier dropped the ball major if you ask me could have been the best game ever instead its sort of just a slog of fake depth.

I bought got it during the alpha, hoping the visuals would be awesome. They're not. I don't do the on-foot stuff...I never wanted spacelegs and still don't. I prefer the cockpit. Sadly, the visuals are actually WORSE, especially as a VR-only player. I don't care about interiors, I don't care about bases. At this point, I can only hope FDev will improve the visuals.

I really need to check out the Odyssey content. I got frustrated with it when it first came out due to getting stuck in the tutorial after it bugged out. I uninstalled the game for quite a while, and since coming back I haven't done any of the Odyssey specific game play. Thanks for the gentle nudge.

I def appreciate the stuff it gives me, exobiology is great addition to exploration, and I love to just get out on foot on random locations, look at my ship and appreciate the sense of scale. But imo the single best reason to buy it is that just everyone is there (for me as someone who plays Elite basically only in open and wants the player interactions)

Odyssey is a nice option to have; being able to jump out of one of my Cutters to appreciate their full glory after working so hard for them feels pretty great. It's very lucrative to shuffle around on a planet's surface looking for splotches in the dirt worth millions upon billions of credits with the first discovery bonus!

In my humble opinion, however...

I feel Odyssey is worth it after tempering your expectations in just what you're receiving for the price you're paying. Even after growing to enjoy it, I'm still not able to recommend it for the full price listed on the Steam market in good conscience. I mean, c'mon, if I'm paying the price of the base game just for the ability to walk around on foot plus a few other shiny features, I'm much more inclined to go back to No Man's Sky.

That said, I agree wholeheartedly with the final points mentioned. If you want to play it, get it while it's on sale or go third-party key hunting. Really makes you wonder why they just haven't halved the price by this point, especially with how frequently it does go on sale. 🤔

Love the positivity, as always! There are just too many videos out there dunking on Odyssey and it's gotten pretty dull, to be honest (looking at Yamiks, there...)

Been a fan of Elite since playing it on the C64, but only got into Elite Dangerous fairly recently, just before Update 14 came out. So its been Odyssey from the get go. Up until now I used the on-foot part almost entirely for exo-bio. Scanning plants covered a little under half of the Fleet Carrier purchase I just made, so yeah, pretty lucrative!

Hadn't really given combat or other on-foot missions much thought, but the Thargoid settlement missions with the Revenants have a cool, creepy atmosphere to them, so it might be time to start upgrading a suit and weapons to give that a shot!

I'd dropped the game cause how Odyssey was so sh*t at launch and I felt getting ripped off, but hop back last month cause I miss a proper space game, which leads me to not be able to speak up with on foot missions, but damn it still feels empty for me.
What I define Odyssey is: More things to grind. Grind for gear upgrades, engineering, just like how it's with ships, but just on foot version of it. SRV in turret mode was already good enough to go sight seeing, so walking on planet doesn't feels special, and since we have free cams, instead of seeing the ship, I'd like to experience "living" in the ship. Also, stations on foot sounds exiting, but there's not really much activity to do, plus the only 2 times I went down into stations to check out how's it like recently, I encountered the black screen bug that just sends my ship gone while still showing in the title screen, which forces me to log out back to Horizon to get my ship back. And then the guns and suits, they're all right, but there's not really much of a choice since each of them just represent different damage and weapon type, no variation to decide by "how the gun feels" etc.

Great video as always, but just in my opinion, Odyssey is still a not very great execution, which unless you're running out of things to grind, or else I don't recommend buying it.

When first starting a new game or resetting its nice to use those on the foot missions to get some quick money. They normally dont pay to well less than 100k but they build rep. with the factions. That is what I did when I first started, then bought a better ship and started doing other things. Just use the sidewinder and do those missions and little things till you can afford the cobra, then you can start doing exobiology in system you are in and make 50m in the starter system easily.... I so far have been scanning every planet in the systems I visit one by one as a side thing. You cannot do it all the time though as just doing that gets old and frustrating when looking for some of the things to scan on the planets.
