Why Germans Protested the Use of Shotguns in World War 1

Pretty sure it was a pr thing. German took heat cause the flamethrowers and gas stuff like that so they turned around and said look at what the Americans are using see it’s inhumane. I don’t think they were kicking ass in the trenches like everyone things they were these days. Forgotten weapons had a really interesting video on this or maybe c&rsenal also.

The guns were kicking their asses and they were losing the war, sour grapes, end of story!

Didn't the Germans use sawtooth bayonets, which were explicitly designed to cause as much pain and suffering as possible by pulling out the guts of anyone it was stuck into?
Not to mention the gas, flamethrowers, U-boats, etc.
Wee bit hypocritical to complain about shotguns with that in mind.

I think this might be a misconception. The Germans were being called out on so many war crimes they likely just wanted to throw some accusations back at the allies

People are always protesting about something with U.S. lethality: Shotguns, flame throwers, drones, water boarding, combined arms, etc. 😂 Why do you people always try to fight the Americans and then complain?

I find it hilarious with the hypocrisy of the Germans they're fine using chemical weapons, but when we bring in the shotguns then they start bitching

Germans were the first to use chemical warfare ever. They used it in WWI first. Fritz Haber, a highly respected Nobel Prize winning chemist came up with the idea of using Chlorine gas against enemy troops, and was present when it was first used. This so upset his wife that shortly after the first use of gas, she committed suicide.

Umm that was the Germans just trying anything they could to get the upper hand advantage over Americans by trying to ban the shotgun. The gasses they jsed was more cruel and inhumane then a shotgun ever was cause you suffocated and suffered for a few mins or even a hour if you got lut and die a hour later from burnt lungs and throat from breathing in a small amoubt of gas. The gas should have been banned not shotgun. Id rather had my head blown off by a buckshot then suffocating on gas and dieing slow painful death or get out of the gassed trench knowing your gonna die anyways from the gas but you are also trying to dodge bullets coming at you and know you might get shot and your dead either way.

It was used to kill messenger pigeons as well

Honestly, why would anyone care what Germany thinks on the madder of shotguns? They are historically famous for war crimes during the world wars.

The German objection was related to the extreme difficulty, pre-antibiotics to dress the wounds of a soldier hit by multiple pellets. It is general principle to this day, that weapons which by design cause a massive difficulty in medical treatment are not permitted. They were quite right to reject the German complaint, as poison-gas and unrestricted uboat warfare did rather give the lie to the Germans having an ethical leg to stand on!

No it didn't violate the convention.
It was effective in the trenches where long gun were hard to handle.
That lead to a lot of clubbing with rifles.
Causing types of wounds that lead to a lifetime of pain and misery .

Poison gas is ok, lol says the idiots who could get away from trench warfare and accomplished nothing

I think Germans at that time would be the last to protest about weapons of war.
