Hi, won't the chicken coop be too close to your neighbours house? Because chickens make a lot of noise?

To far from your house. You have to go feed them every day. It's really wet there. Put them in the small pen in the barn, and move the boxes in there. It's dry, and you're only using it for dry boards. Less work and a much safer place for them. Easy to clean also.

Please don’t use the wine barrel. You need a structure that you can get into to clear the chicken poop. There’s plenty of wood lying around to build a nice little rustic chicken cottage or use the existing or. Ut just needs a clean.

I agree with the others, those chickens would be too far away. Without serious protective fences buried they won't live long. ❤❤

You could use the smaller barrel as a nesting box. Cut it in half, length ways and add some shelves. Maybe add it across the back so you can cut a hole in the back so they can get in and out. You could put a a hinge and fastener on the top half so you can get into it for the eggs. Just a thought.

Please remember chickens need 12 hour of light to lay eggs. I think your barrel will be too dark. quinta de Jara also said that chickens do not like darkness. Maybe you can watch Baileys Homestead before you start with your coop. I agree you must use what you,ve got. Granny South Africa❤

Andre from Farmer for Fun say you must use human hair to get rid of that wild pigs. Maybe you can visit the barber or hair salon for hair cut offs. Joachim from Back in Portugal were a chicken farmer and I am sure he will tell you if you strugle with the coop. It was also Joachim that said chickens need 12 hours of light to lay eggs. Agree with others. Too small and too dark for chickens. Besides you will not be able to accommodate more than 2 or 3. Too close to your neighbors. You have to respect their space and the noise they make. You have tons of land. I suggest you build between old house and new dwelling so when you move from one place to another it will be close to both. Check the ordinance. And forecast for free range and building a much bigger space. You already have the nesting boxes. Just cut one layer. Sorry for the long comment but as I am passionate about my chickens you need to accommodate their needs. Lots of love from Florida.

I would recommend to put the chicken coop at the other end of your orchard. Because that corner is too far away from the house, which is more inviting for predators and more walking for you.

Hello and I love your channel but you might want to put netting over top to keep predators from flying in. Good luck on your build

It looks like the barn with all the wood in has been a coop. The shelves look like nesting boxes.

Make something that is easy to clean. I used to have one with a doublé floor that I could easily slide out. Also à coop with handels so that you could easily change the place together.

oh Dave… I used to love messing about in the old sheds on the farm when I was a child. Memories are flooding back⭐️
I love this idea of the cask as a hen house, but you will need to have good access to the inside to be able to keep it clean. Yes for nesting boxes too but you have a big space to keep clean in there.. maybe the nest boxes on the back and you actually put a full door on the front.
Your little hole can stay in the door, but you just need access.
Now as to the residue in the bottom of the barrel, it’s just dehydrated wine and all you need to do is add it to water, strain and bottle it and you have your first vintage…
🤣🤪🤣🤪🤣🦘🦘

I believe that the cone thingy is actually a chicken feeder. It stops the chicken s from scratching the feed everywhere.

That room in the barn is already set up for the chickens, even has the nesting boxes. Just clean out the mess that you’ve just left everywhere. That cleanup should be number one!! The wine barrel needs the whole top off and even then not enough room for more than 2-3 birds nowhere for them to nest at all

I would clean out the existing chicken coop. Already existing and easy to clean out. Also, they would be safe from predators. Just need an outside fencing area, for them to come out and enjoy the sun.

When I watch the video, you can clean out the old hen house and keep the chickens there, great place for them there and easier for you to clean the hen house, you can fit many hens there, put up some perches for them and the nest has you already there😊👍

Please dont use the antique barrel...they are precious and shouldnt be used for chickens. You have enough wood to build one.
But use the existing chicken coup in the barn...better for predators...and it not to close.
