The coloration on these cottonmouths is different than any I have ever seen. Are they a sub-species?
ОтветитьI’ve Seen a few in northern Todd co
ОтветитьI don't know about a cotton mouth being all that rare...Here in Ohio County, when I go jug fishing, or limb lining, we really have to watch where we put our hands. They are very common on the lower portions of the Green and all parts of the rough river. On any given night I can find one.
ОтветитьFunny story. I've been catching Cotton's ever since I was 8. I'm 48 now. This is my favorite snake. Never had a fear of them. Last year while night fishing, I was standing in the water while wearing shorts. I felt the unmistaking feeling wrap around one leg. Now, I have never in 40 years seen a Cotton in the river. My encounters were always tail waters or swamps. So I figured it was a banded water snake. I got my flashlight out of my pocket and shined down. It was a Cotton about 3 foot long. I thought well sh1t, thousands of Cottons to date without being bit and this one will be the one. It finally moved away from me. I ran to my truck to grab my tongs and captured it. That one moment made me think that it was a funny joke God had played on me.
Ответитьhow ignurt
ОтветитьVery educational video!
ОтветитьTo me only good snake is a dead snake
ОтветитьI saw one about 3 years ago. My husband and I were hanging out next to a large but slow moving creek in Rockcastle county. I felt like I was being watched when we walked down to some boulders. After 5 minutes or so we heard a splash about 15 feet from where we were. I looked over and one of those heads was looking right at me. In the moment it's head looked to be the size of my fist, but I'm willing to admit that my brain could have been exaggerating. It quickly disappeared into the murky water and I wasn't waiting around for it to come back.
ОтветитьDidn’t know Neil Young was into snakes!
ОтветитьThat’s a banded water snake
ОтветитьI don't think I would be scared of snakes in Kentucky. I would be scared of the people there. Amped up on crystal meth. With no teeth.
ОтветитьThat was Neil Young!
ОтветитьI once was at a caving convention in Tennessee. We pitched out tent in the woods. Didn’t get much sleep it was so noisy with insects and animal. All night we heard stuff creeping around the tent. I don’t like snakes.
ОтветитьNever seen one in Tennessee east of the Tennessee River/Kentucky Lake. Never seen one in KY at all, but I would guess western Kentucky is habitable for them. The water in DHL is too cold for them to reproduce, do not expect to see them there.
ОтветитьJust saw one this past Saturday on the back waters of Kincaid Lake before it forks. We were canoeing and it was swimming towards our boat..completely on top of water with head sticking above. Thinking she was being a protective mama.
ОтветитьHave seen many in the Muhlenberg Co area... Green River and Peabody WMA.... Also, and it was strange, I found one in the Red River near Adams Tennessee.
ОтветитьMy friend grew up in the 1940's and 1950's on a farm in Boone county where the power plant is today along the Ohio river and he would see cottonmouth's on there farm
ОтветитьLooks like a old neil young
ОтветитьI disagree with you saying they're isolated to just the Western region of Kentucky. This is not true. Growing up in Central Kentucky it was nothing to see a Cottonmouth. We still have them through Central Kentucky as we always have. Have recently had someone try to argue this very point with me lately. Had to tell them they were wrong too
ОтветитьIve seen alot of cottonmouths, but Ive never smelled one. I would love to smell one some day
ОтветитьDon't get that line of occupation in KY. When Rough River was first opened I know a water skier was killed by them. I have personally killed them while harvesting creek rock in Meade and Bullitt counties, and yes I know for a fact they were cottonmouths. Please F&W don't tell me thet were probably somebody's pet, like you do every time there's a cougar sighting. Great video BTW
ОтветитьA shower, haircut and a shave and we would take you serious. Do they have running water near you?
ОтветитьI have taught Herpatology for 30 years and have eaten cottonmouths and copperheads alive and feel them in my stomach before my stomach acid digests them...
ОтветитьCome and check out obion wildlife management area in west ky.. it’s full of cottonmouths. I walked up on one that had to be about 5 ft and about the girth of my forearm.
ОтветитьI leave in Florida close to the everglades .there's lots of snakes rattlesnakes cottonmouth copperheads you name it. You won't fuck with them they don't fuck with you either. respect them they will respect you too.
ОтветитьCotton mouths in NC and Virginia where we fished
ОтветитьHow about South Carolina where can I get a map shows how many cottonmouths and moccasins and copperheads that are in South Carolina and where they're at mostly
ОтветитьI live in London ky so want kind of snake are there in London ky
ОтветитьI found one of those jumped right out in front of me
ОтветитьThere are some big rattlers in butler county
ОтветитьDid you see any Rattlesnakes in this trip, around the same area with that rock ?
ОтветитьUnlike copperheads, they can be quite aggressive. Several years ago, I was hiking the trail around Hematite Lake at the Land Between The Lakes, and a cottonmouth, which was in the woods about 6 feet off of the trail, charged me. While they prefer stagnant bodies of water, I have regularly seen them in the water and on logs on the Current River in southeast Missouri. The only death in Missouri due to the bite of a cottonmouth in recent history occurred in 2015 on the James River. (The victim refused to seek treatment.)
ОтветитьI am thankful now, that I'm living in Ireland because we're 🐍 snake free!! Respect deserved! I could not live anywhere near poisonous snakes.
Ответитьi see them all the time in mississippi and gator too and rattle snakes
Ответитьthis was interesting to learn Kentucky has swamps. Not thinking people think of Kentucky as a swampy area
ОтветитьI'm form northern kentucky and i have seen them at kincaid lake state park in falmouth ky and also at aj jolly park in campbell county ky.
ОтветитьThere's a lot of them in Geneva Kentucky also. Geneva is south of Henderson Kentucky. Use to be good fishing there.
ОтветитьWhere around Daviess county? I have lived there all my life and have never seen a venomous snake. I would know a cottonmouth because I have seen them when stationed in Alabama.
Ответитьused to see them on the Red River just south of the KY, TN state line while canoeing the river between Adams and Clarksville TN.
Ответить"A couple more questions before we let you leave, Why's you're hair so white? Uh huh, uh huh, Did you know you have a leaf on your head?"
ОтветитьI see many of these snakes and copperheads where I live in Texas. I carry a flashlight to check the clothes line at night. You must respect these animals! They are so cool to see.
ОтветитьY
ОтветитьI hate to tell you Allen County KY has Cotton mouths TOO!!!!!
ОтветитьI like when he says they can let off an odor to deter a potential threat !!!!!!!! Lol We people can let off an odor as well when we don't like something !!!!!! It's called a FART !!!!!!!!
ОтветитьThanks for the video Tim, very sorry to hear your leaving KYAfield
Ответитьhere in Alabama they are found all over the state.
ОтветитьI hate snakes
ОтветитьCool video, always an interesting interview when watching Tim's channel.
ОтветитьThe old timers used to claim there were cottonmouths around here(Taylor and Marion Counties) but I've never seen one, dead or alive.
