Perhaps you'll read some thick Dostoevsky novels this year, ones you haven't read yet. Some day Russian novels'll be all the rage on booktube. (-:
ОтветитьSo interesting to hear your thoughts on this book. I really disliked Anna for her character and all the choices she made. For me she was mainly selfish and heartless not considering anyone else but her own agenda. I was very surprised when I read the book how late Anna appears in the story and how early she leaves it again. Towards the end I felt clearly lectured on how to live and how to behave as a good Russian of that time. The Juxtaposition of Levin and Anna is very obvious I think. Oh I didn't care for Levin either, btw, due to his childlike outbursts and behavior.
ОтветитьWhat a great review! I've had AK on my shelf for years, and now I think I will make it my next read. Your enthusiasm is really catching!
ОтветитьCan't wait to read this! Great video :)
ОтветитьI had intended to read this one but didn't think I would enjoy it on my holiday. I want to read it this year and your review has encouraged me to do it!
ОтветитьAnna was a modern woman in an old world. However they were on the brink of change which makes it tragic. She was a "dead-beat" mother and awful at true communication. She used her talents to persuade and control and then was shocked when Alexey did the same. She didnt even truly want to kill herself, she just wanted to one-up Vronsky - who was amazingly loyal and in just as foul a situation as she was. From the looks of the ending it could be years before he recovers - if ever.
ОтветитьExcellent review, i just finished reading it today and i loved it. It is one of the best books i've ever read. Being a long book it was amazing that i didn't wanted it to end. Tolstoy was a true genius.

ОтветитьI think you're wrong because the story of Anna is told, Tolstoi told us about her aunt, her dead parents. Dolly's husband is her brother. It's said that she only lived for his son before meeting Vronsky
ОтветитьI just got this book after watching your book review (you are an inspiring reviewer!). Just a random question. Do you happen to speak Russian, if so have you read it in Russian and in English? Which English translation would you rate the highest?
ОтветитьGot a question:Vronsky or Levin?
ОтветитьBeautifully presented, thank you Спасибо
ОтветитьVery good explanation.. 👍
ОтветитьI have read Notes from Underground, Pale Fire, and The Metamorphosis. These titles are great stories :).
