Husso yanked as Red Wings pummeled by Pittsburgh in home opener

Why on earth did husso get the start??? Like why? He was bad in preseason too. Remember thinking theres no way husso is gonna play and yet fester decides it would be a good idea to put him in. Shows fester is not qualified for the job.

Why would Lalonde put Chairot back with Seider when they clearly didn't have chemistry last time yhey were paired up?

While Husso could've been better, I think everyone else also could've been better. While the "oh, it's just preseason" line of thinking is perfectly valid, I think many folks used it as an excuse for our glaring vulnerabilities. We're in for a very long, very painful season if the players and staff don't figure this out. Here's hoping they actually do get it together.

I’m having the strangest sensation of Deja vu.

Back in in the 80's and early 90's Detroit tried the goaltender by commitee thing and tried to just get by hoping to outscore their opponents .It didn' t work then and won' t work now.

Watching the defense last season, and yzerman going “walman has to be the problem” is actually mindboggling to me.

It would appear I'm not the only person not convinced that this version of the Wings are playoff caliber. I understand Yzerman hates goaltenders, perhaps because he doesn't know how to evaluate what makes a good one. As for the defense, where is it? Brutal beginning. With Ullmark in Ottawa, I see them as being ahead of the Wings this season.

I see in the ESPN box score that Walman had seven blocked shots in his first game with SJ. The entire Wings defense had six.

I already feel vindicated calling for Berggren on the second line, Tarasenko on the third line, and Fischer on the 4th line.

I’d like to think they just weren’t ready for the season to start.

Ive tried to be patient and give lalonde the benefit if the doubt. But if this is going to be a trend, im down defending him. As much as he has preached team defense and "structure" yesterdays performance should be unacceptable to Steve. I will aslways defend steve. I do not think he is the problem, but i would be very disappointed if he did not sit Lalonde down today and say something like "listen, if you cannot impliment our vision of team defense with the roster i have provided to you, your seat is getting hot"

Not that the roster is amazing... but theres more talent on the roster than what showed up last night.

Lalonde is not a leader of men. I do not think he has the ability to inspire. He relies on the "leadership group"

They looked absolutely horrible, why tf did Steve keep petry?? We have zero defense we had Kane was just standing around giving up open looks in front of the net not even trying to defend. It’s going be a long long season boys

The defense was always a question mark coming into the season. I do think the defensive pairings could have been better.

It should be Lyon and Talbot in net, it shouldn’t have even been a question

Also on Husso. He was never going to bounce back. I would have started Talbot. Not saying wings win with him in net. I’m saying I bet it would have been a 4-3 loss. Also I bet Lyon starts on sat.

I completely disagree with your blame on Derek Lalonde. If you watch the game, it’s evident Gus was awful, Edvinsson had the worst game I’ve seen him play, and Kane let Malkin walk past him and so did Gus. We are missing Walman right now. Chariot also was lost

Been saying Husso sucks but people keep defending him. Yes the Wings play no defense, but at the same time he is swiss cheese in net. If they start Talbot they may have actually won that game

Chiarot is garbage. Petry sucks. Gustaffson is horrible defensively. Maata has cement in his skates. The Copp line and Veleno lines weren't just invisible, they were downright horrible.

Newsy does not fit this team! Been going to games since 1974 at Olympia Stadium and trust me, the chemistry isn't there. The players are great but coaching needs to make it mesh together!

Coaching was the problem in this one. Lets hope it gets sorted out fast. The roster talent is there, just grossly miss-managed.

Johansson didn't play. I was disappointed right away, just based on that. It's not forward thinking at all to have Johansson ride the bench. Next, Gustafson was atrocious. I heard Holl is going to play because Petry got hurt. Johansson is still not playing. What the hell?

First game. Alot of armchair quauterbacks. The wings, however, looked like they had the same problem as other years of passing to the other team. I think Pittsburgh is a poor team, but if they get a chance, they bury the puck. COME ON!!! Pittsburgh had triple luck on 2 goals . They shoot the puck from behind the net it hits Chariot , then bounces off him again, then Chariot misses the puck. Petry poor pass out, gets hurt, puck bounces of Petry's stick, and lands on players stick in front of net and scores.
