I''d have taken points off for claiming the Devore trained to resist telepathy... Wouldn't that necessitate Telepaths?
ОтветитьTuvok was on the bridge in that last scene. LOL.
ОтветитьThe foodstuffs on the shelves were untouched for good reason. It's leola root and despite being the bain of Voyager's existence, that shit never goes off.
ОтветитьWhen I heard today's nickname for the guest star, I laughed my ass off cuz I could not pick a more fitting title for the guy 🤣😂🤣
ОтветитьI do like this one - Kashyk is believable both as the "Reasonable Authority Figure" and the "Secret Double Agent" and (on the first time watching) I was genuinely wondering which side he was on. I tended towards the latter based mainly on the episode length and the fact that Status Quo is God, though it was just possible he'd pull a last minute self sacrifice to save them.
Ответить"Diarrhea Pocket's Lapdog" - worth it.
ОтветитьMy favourite episode
But it's going to be mauled!
I think Janeway generally is so poorly written and acted the character drags down the whole series, but this episode is actually alright. Literally the only Janeway-centric episode I have positive things to say about.
Though that bit where she's jokily talking about how often she breaks the rules is a reminder of how hypocritical her punishment of Tom Paris in the previous episode was. Breaking the prime directive or disobeying orders is the worst thing ever unless she's the one doing it, and then lets have a laugh about how her friends in the admiralty will just let it slide anyway.
I always took the line "I usually go with my instincts and sort it out later at the Board of Inquiry. Those Admirals and I were on a first name basis, you know." as more of a cheeky 'I've been there so often I've gotten to know everyone' rather than the Admirals going easy on her
ОтветитьAnother game for Milos !
Ответить2 a week is not enough I need one every day!!!
ОтветитьSeason 5 of Voyager is my favourite, more good episodes than bad. And this is a great episode, but I do wonder how much longer Voyager was in Devore space after this episode, Were there anymore inspections or did Kashyk pull some strings behind the scenes and convinced his superiors Voyager wasn't a threat.
ОтветитьSend Harry through first Space Dog(s)! I could forgive the science and plot holes of this episode, however for me, as soon as the bad guy does the whole "I'm a defector" stuff, I immediately thought "Yep, of course he is going to try to screw them over". Especially when Janeway and him get 'friendly'.
Perhaps it might have worked better for me if the 'betrayal' had been a plan to shaft his underling who was getting suspicious about his boss' lack of success in chasing down fleeing telepaths.
Loved seeing a different side of Janeway and it's clear why this is KM's favorite episode. The classical music was a nice touch, and that it kept playing as the credits rolled. All felt rather bittersweet in the end!
ОтветитьThis one goo but the end was just F'KN HILARIOUS!
more space dog please, lol
Always been my favorite episode. That look of genuine regret on her face at the end speaks volumes.
ОтветитьApart from the polt hole, this was a good character episode.
ОтветитьThat still of Paris is priceless!
ОтветитьMaximum speeeeed! 😂😂
ОтветитьI think Pocket Diarrhea is one of the most apt names so far.
ОтветитьShe seems to fall for him in about a day. That's one charming guy, or she's getting desperate.
Ответить"Counterpoint," otherwise known as "Of Love and Fascism." I'm sure the "Janeway is an insane criminal psychopath" demographic of Star Trek's fandom will derive tremendous amusement (and validation) from this episode. Chakotay was never able to crack the ice in seven years, and yet in response to this individual, a transparent spiritual sibling of Heinrich Himmler, Janeway's juices are practically running down her legs.
ОтветитьRandomly generated comment, not to be taken literally.
ОтветитьI think the original plan was for Voyager to take the wormhole, and that this only changed when they needed to trick the spy.
That still doesn't tell us where Tuvok et al were hiding. It would have been better if they'd gone along with, and that Voyager planned to meet them at the other end of the wormhole when they eventually reach it. It just needs to be a relatively short wormgole for that to work.
He did the fucking math.
ОтветитьIf telepaths are so common, i wonder if the reasons for the govt fears is paranoia, or we have a situation like the tng episode where they were starting to turn into light wibblies.
ОтветитьI have found that after season 3 Voyagers stories became very bad. The plot holes and the complete lack of cannon to it's own series are just a couple of those. The math mentioned in this episode is just 1 of those examples. Can't wait untill you do the one from season 7 where 7 of 9 has her first dream depsite having mentioned her dreams countless times before it.
ОтветитьFor your thouht experiment, they could of hidden two vulcans and the betazoid near the necells where there is extra shielding. like the room we see in Next Gen here that guy jumped into the plasma stream.
ОтветитьI have a theory about the whole scanner thingy.
Kayshyk was the one to tell them about the sensors,
he was the one to tell them the 10 ly range so that in their mind it would be best to cruise at sub light speed.
what if the scanner wasn't 10 ly diameter, or what if the scanner would have picked up on them either way?
or maybe he intentionally made them cruise at sub light speed in order to allow his ships to reach them in time.
Counterpoint is one of my favorite episodes.
ОтветитьAnother episode of StarTrek where the big issues is are once again how generally bad the idea of Warp and molecular reconstruction based teleporters are.
Unfortunately I think they're too iconic to change now but I would quite like to see some 32 centaury + trek where they move over to teleporters based on microwormholes and miniaturisation and some form of hyperspace-ish technology that involves jumping in and out of hyperspace but travel within hyperspace is effectively sunlight.
They've pretty much ruled our wide spread spore drive usage already anyway
I love you digression notice.
ОтветитьAnother great episode in this season. The fascist inspector is a great guest star all the way through, and manages to be likable, which playing the line of "can we really trust him?" quite well against Kate Mulgrew. And Mulgrew has great material to work with all episode to really flex her acting chops.
The only thing I recall being off was I think Tuvok was just on the main bridge at the end, in front of the anti telepath fascists.
I did find it an interesting twist for once that they had fascists who had an actual reason for their bigotry that wasn't totally bullshit - their fear of telepaths being able to read their minds has been seen in trek before, even if it's never really focused on, and other sci-fi (particularly Babylon 5) has explored the dangers of people who can read your every thought.
They’re not in this stove!
ОтветитьMein Führer, the telepaths escaped!
Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein! Nein!
This is one of my favourites. He's a great villain of the week.
ОтветитьI appreciate this series so much.
I want the cultural references but could not watch this much TV.
I do hope you continue with Ds9 and Tng
I feel weird knowing that I'm one of the few who don't relish this episode. We sacrificed two shuttles, and left the technology with the aliens. I'm genuinely flummoxed why this is okay.
ОтветитьMy favorite episode in the entire series.
ОтветитьPersonally love this.episode. Star Trek does Inglorioue Basterds. Diharrea pocket really reminded me of the Nazi with the glass of milk at the start.
ОтветитьThe unknown Betazoid is in fact Ensign Jurot who went on to become a character in the Elite Force games.
ОтветитьOn the Star Wars thing…it may be a bit of a reach but the whole plot could he a reference.
Fascist, totalitarian empire hunts down people with telekinetic and mental abilities. Like the Empire wiping out the Jedi
I never liked this episode because I'd already figured diarrhea pocket was a deceptive b'stard all along, not because there were clues to it in episode, but because it's not an original premise, though most times it involves world war 2 and the gestapo.
Ответить"hushed up" reminds me of that episode of yes minister
ОтветитьToday's thought experiment: Give me your best places for hding Tuvok, Ensign Conspicuous and the otherwise unknown Betazoid crewmember. And no, you can't use the... uh... "organic waste" tank in the holodeck.
