My Grandpa served in General Patton's 3rd Army during WW2.
So I always love seeing any and everything I can about General Patton!
I believe that Patton was the one who actually did way more to advance his Army and Men than any other American or British General during WW2!
It was well known that the Germans were very fearful of General Patton!! AND rightly so! Because Patton wouldn't give them an inch! His men fought and got through France and almost into Germany right at the end of the first 85 days after Normandy....Think about that!
I've always believed that if Eisenhower had instead given the materials to Patton's 3rd Army instead of backing the British led Operation Market Garden, which was a complete dud btw! And cost quite a few American Soldiers their lives...if Eisenhower had simply given Patton the Go-Ahead to continue into Germany in early September that the War would have ended sooner and with less American dead!!
Just my opinion!

Punishing General Patton keeping him out of Italy is why they were fighting in Italy at the end of the war
ОтветитьIf they had not gotten stuck in Normandy, they would have never let Patton back in the game, but without Patton, we would have lost the war
