"It is just so wonderful because neighboring libraries are open on Sunday. So our Norwalk families have to go to other places and it's just not right so we feel so good about this,"said Chris Bradley, Director of the Norwalk Public Library located on Belden Avenue. For the first time in six years, Norwalk's libraries are open on Sundays. "We have not been open on Sunday since 2008," said Bradley. "Finally in this budget year, Mayor Rilling said he wanted both libraries to be open all during the school year, so kids have a place to go and do their homework and the adults love it as well."
Mayor Harry Rilling said, "Originally the money that was asked for was to open the Main Library. I said I'm not going to open the Main Library without opening the South Norwalk Library because it is a neighborhood library. Not everybody can get to the Main Library. So now the South Norwalk branch is open on Sundays and it is just so important." Both branches will be open Sundays from 1 - 5 pmfrom Mid-October to Mid-June. "Not everybody has access to a computer. Not everybody has access to research material, so on a Sunday when they have time to get ready for school, they are scrabbling and they don't know what to do. Now they have an option. They can come to the library, get online, get their research done, and this will help them with their studies and help them continue to achieve," said Mayor Rilling.
