Wow; attention to detail; perfection.
And the clear and concise explanation, with videography to match, is top-notch. Subscribed.
Very good video Sir. Love the technique. Also love the close-ups of chisel placement and the careful way you came INSIDE the 'Stanley knife' line. Very methodical and safe way To do it. You may add using a nail punch to mark the drill holes if they don't have a self-centering bit (instead of a nail. Lol. But that's a minor trivial point. Watched several different videos on doing this. I learned a lot from each one. Each one slightly different, but ALL GREAT. Thank you. Looking forward to more of your videos. The others were more for the aspiring Jedi level intermediate folks and DIYers. Yours is more practical and useful for beginners who don't have all the fancy knives, and bits etc.
Ответить6 inch from the top 9 inches from the bottom!
ОтветитьYou mentioned a marking gauge. Why not use one? At the very least, use a combination square. A marking gauge can be used for the depth too.
ОтветитьAbsolutely great video and well timed. I talked myself into changing all the door handles and catches. Hang on the hinges do not match. Brilliant now I can do them too. Any tips for actually rehanging the door and the adjustment on the frame? New hinges are slightly larger than the old ones.
ОтветитьWhat kind of timber you used its very soft for a door.
ОтветитьBrilliant video, great tip about using a stanley knife for anyone that doesnt have a marking gauge. Fantastic attention to detail.
ОтветитьWhen i was serving my tkme back in the 80s , i used this method along with a marking gague , my record is being able to swing 10 doors in 1 day , todays joiners would swing about 25 with routers
Ответитьwow, that is awesome Thank you so much for sharing, never could get it right
ОтветитьThank you very informative I managed to fit the hinges for first time,I'm more confident now to do another 7 doors,cheers.. keep the videos coming best wishes from Billy 🙂
ОтветитьExcellent information😊
ОтветитьThanks for this video, it helped me perfectly install my door hinges!
ОтветитьYou surely must have intended to title this video as" How to fit door hinges perfectly" , otherwise it will be interpreted as fitting a precision state of the art door hinges any old way.
ОтветитьGreat explanation. Thank you.
ОтветитьTop notch man.
And no annoying background music.
The difference in distance between the top and bottom hinges ( I was taught 6” down 9” up) is purely for perspective. If you set them at those measurements when you stand back, because your eyes are 5’ of the floor the hinges look even. If there’s a middle hinge it should go between the top and bottom hinges, not the middle of the door. If you ever walk down a corridor towards a door with big obvious stainless or brass hinges that are set at even distances (as many younger chippies are doing now) it looks so wrong.
ОтветитьThanks for your tutorial on this one task that daunts me on doors. Appreciate you taking the time to share
ОтветитьI just use my hinge template and a router. It takes all of 5 minutes and they are perfect. No fooling around. A hinge template like the one I use spaces the hinges perfectly from each other and from the door jamb. And then the router perfectly follows the template to remove the material. And then you then place that template on the door jamb to get a perfect match to the door itself with no fiddly measuring or possibility of error. I use the Carey template hinge mortising system.
ОтветитьAs beautiful as the Arabic sign in your workshop, beautiful job brother.
ОтветитьNow Ive watched this video, I havent got an excuse for installing my usual crappy but "good enough" hinges. Dammit.
Ответитьuse the thickness of the hinge to set the depth of a router with a flat bottom bit. Done in about 2 minutes
Ответитьi am a full on fabrication engineer never really thought about wood work however i found that so satisfying and relaxing just to take your time and appreciate the finishing result
Ответитьlooks really great but how long did that seriously take!
ОтветитьA real pro.
ОтветитьBrilliant..
ОтветитьThat was therapeutic...
ОтветитьOr, how to fit door hinges perfectly!
Ответитьamazing detail, thank you
ОтветитьExcellent! So glad I found this channel! Thank you!
ОтветитьI would back off the door at least 1/16 on step one because when the hinge pin gets removed , as it will through the years, what prevents the paint from being damaged when the door gets removed ?
ОтветитьI think your video's are very good... however, I have comment on the door hinge fixing in regards to 3 hinge setups! As I understand it, where a third hinge is being used, it should NOT be put in the middle! The reason for 3 hinges is normally weight of the door and as a result physics determines its position, not cosmetics... I believe the third (middle) hinge should be approx. 2 thirds up from the bottom to help carry weight which would be pulled down from the top of the door by gravity... in you video you appear fairly casual about placing the third hinge "somewhere in the middle"!!! Cheers, and keep up with the excellent videos!
Ответить💯👍
ОтветитьAttention to detail good effort 👌
ОтветитьThanks man, sharing your time and high level skill❤
ОтветитьNow i need a video how to install the handle 😂
ОтветитьWhy play the loud stupid music
ОтветитьExcellent video and very clearly explained, thank you.
ОтветитьDo we need to do same on the frame?
ОтветитьWhat a great video. Everything explained with reasons and without being condescending. Thank you. I’m going to fit my hinges now..😊
ОтветитьThis is the British way now I want to see there “chalan” way where they are running like crazy on anything
ОтветитьTighten by hand, something you don’t see on Americans side
ОтветитьThis is the best video on hinge installing for me. Nice big pictures when it matters and good calm, unagitated instructions. Perfect!
ОтветитьJust the ticket for me as I'm about to change ALL the hinges on every door upstairs. I've only recently found your channel and I think I must have watched 160 of your videos already!
Very impressive stuff, well presented, structured and thought out, impartial and honest.
Thanks
Phil
many thanks
ОтветитьAs a carpenter of over 50 years, I have fitted a few hinges in my time.
I did notice (or at least I thought I did) that your chisels are not hollow ground, meaning more often grinding the 25deg required.
I watched out of curiosity actually as I am hanging 3 oak internal doors at the moment, It must be me, but they were never this heavy when I was a youngster lol.
Very well explained, I bet you, like myself have been to quite a few properties where people have tried to hang doors poorly.
How and when do you mark out and cut the hinge locations on the jamb? Before it is installed in the door frame? I was thinking I would lay out the hinge-side jamb against the door and mark both spots then...
ОтветитьThis is excellent, no music, no in your face 'guys' jabber. Same method I use, I'm a decorator so like dead straight clean edges. I tend to use wider chisels as I find them much easier to control and get flatter rebates. I also use Olfa knives as they are ultra sharp and thinner than Stanley blades, the snap off idea encourages much safer working as blade will always be sharp. Careful now! Really like centering bits too , essential.
ОтветитьIt’s so perfect, yet something most people wouldn’t even notice— let alone appreciate. maybe I’m a weirdo, but I thoroughly appreciate it and this video🤓
