We started our journey from
Uttarakasi to Guptakasi around 6.30am. Early morning drive is the best one and we always love it. Gentle breeze and cold weather hugged us. Yes, we were ready to leave now. Bagirathi river accompanied us for some distance and then we started our uphill journey. All we saw was lush green himalayan range. Entire stretch was captivating with abundant nature, winding roads & green mountains. At one point I lost the count of the number of mountains we climbed up and down! From one Dham to another, we crossed several mountains! We didn’t know about this when we had planned our Chardham journey! So, it was very interesting for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
First we stopped at Chauranginath Temple. I think all the tourist vehicles stop at this temple and seemed to be a junction with lots of eateries. The location was absolutely stunning with surrounding mountain views. Small peaceful village temple! That place is very famous in the winter, we were told. We had a good darshan at the temple. It was very early and not all the shops were opened but the restaurants were. I always prefer roadside/small restaurants where food tastes better than expensive star hotels! I saw an idli pot and was surprised! Somewhere in the himalayan range, we get Idlis, that too, big soft yummy ones! Incredible India! Sambar they call it but it tasted like ‘thakkali avunty’( kuzhambu in tamil) which was amazing! Stuffed ourselves and had hot chai in another small shop. Restaurants were getting ready for the pilgrims. Hot Channa masala, aalu paratha, samosas, paneer gravy and all kinds are available. Only thing is, no restroom facilities around. I feel sad for the old and younger ones, particularly for women😞 now, lots of pilgrims are visiting chardham and government has to make arrangements for basic clean facilities. It is a must!
We didn’t want to leave that beautiful place but we had to. Well, we felt the same everywhere in our journey😇From there till Rudraprayag, all we saw were green mountains & farming villages! Terrace farming, mostly basmati rice is grown in that region, our driver told us. Lots of roadside small temples with just a lamp lit or some with Ma Durga, some with Hanuman deities are seen all along. We passed through several villages. motor bikes and small buses are used for transportation, I guess.
When we reached the valley near Rudhraprayag, roads were wider and soon we entered into Guptakasi. We were excited to explore this beautiful city🥰
