Correction: Ruby Frankie did not demonstrate “gentle parenting”…not even close. Even on camera was she was authoritative AF.

That is a completely different style of parenting that is the opposite of GP.

This is why I really appreciate family vloggers that don't show their family (or just occasionally show them without showing their faces). Kidds_dad is an example of this. He's just showing what he does for his family and talking about how much he loves them, setting a good example for other dads/fathers/family influencers. I could be watching his video's while running into his wife and child and make 0 connections between the two.

I have never been big on putting pics of my kids online, but now since I have been watching all this stuff about family vloggers ect if I do put pics of my kids on my Facebook it's of there faces only. I was abused as a child I would never do anything to put my kids in danger or in a situation like this, EVER!!!! And it breaks my heart to see this hurting so many kids 😢

Notice that she didn't once speak on the abuse, because the abuse was a circumstance of her mother, not of the child influencer life. There are MANY children out there who aren't being abused in the same ways she and her siblings were who are still suffering because their parents are filming their every move. I think family vlogging is a type of child abuse but it's one that is ignored because it's profitable and "fun to watch"

I have been wanting to create content for years, now….but I am STILL weighing the risks of giving up my VERY QUIET and private life. We can’t take lightly the things that ADULT content creators go through. I was born in the 80’s….so I did not grow up with social media droning in the background. Making that decision as a grown person with agency is one thing. I could NOT imagine someone else making that decision for me, effectively giving my privacy away FOR me? Of COURSE there is something very wrong with that! That girl did a great job conveying the importance of protections for kids with fame-struck, money hungry parents. I hope she heals and gets to make up for her childhood.

Thankfully, when I was a kid, the internet was just becoming a thing domestically. I remember home videos, filmed when I was having A Moment (as an adult, I have been pre-diagnosed as autistic), and there is one in particular which sticks with me, and has bothered me more and more as I've gotten older.

Without going into details, an important family event was being captured on film. There was a small incident in which 5-year-old me felt rejected by my mum (my only parent) and removed myself from the immediate situation to cry and have a sulk about it by myself, maybe throw a tantrum - again, alone - to work out the big feelings. My aunt, who was filming, turned away from the important family event, to film me in this vulnerable moment. As an older kid and teen, it was embarrassing, but as an adult, I have realised something more upsetting: why would someone walk away from the objectively more important event happening, to film a kid who was clearly upset, unless the goal was to humiliate them. On film. Apparently, humiliating me as a child when I was upset because of feeling rejected by my sole parent, was more important than recording this important family event in full.

I cannot imagine how I would feel if that footage was posted online for everyone to see.

I honestly never watched reality tv. Always totally hated the entire idea, with or without kids. These kids have never been allowed to just be normal kids. Their childhood robbed from them. I was so disgusted by the Duggars. Could not believe so many people watch these shows. There is no reality in reality tv.

I don't know much about his family or situation, but I fear for him and his mental development. Again, I don't know his situation so if it's different I'd love to hear how!

Before the Adpocalypse my toddler would watch a family channel. Something about these videos kinda filled me with rage. I had forbidden her from watching them. Later on scandal happened with that family. I think the dad ended up being a slimeball. Anyway, not all of us were fine with sitting our kids infront of those channels.

I think Roman Atwood was the best example of what a “family vlogger” should be. The vlog was about his life and his family were just side characters if they wanted to be. Like I remember him saying quite frequently that like one of his kids didn’t wanna be on camera today… so they weren’t in the vlog that day. Imo that’s a good way to do it. He also never really filmed anything private about his kids lives only himself and his wife’s.

There are plenty of people making mommy content without posting their kids in the videos. We need to normalize that and make child exploitation the obvious gross thing that it is. People talking about parenting is awesome, and I respect people talking about their experiences in things like gentle parenting without posting any meltdowns or even sharing specific details of the child. I gave up most social media, I don’t even post my daughter. I send pictures directly to friends and family, that’s plenty for me.
