I have not bought a brand new motorcycle in 20 years and never will again. All my motorcycles are mint used bikes that some poor sucker bought new. When a stealership wanted to tack on a $1000 to assemble my new bike, that was the final straw.
I simply waited a few months and found a perfect used R1 for $3000 less.

I have always like the look of some bikes but never owned one my late dad owned one he even took us to a motorbike museum as a kid. I have a full driving licence and have driven a car for years but only got on one once as a passenger but didn't feel safe.
but I have a friend who husband loves his motorbike.
Like its been mentioned cost and extra rules on what you can get and more paper work and another test if you want to go bigger own a car pass your test and you can drive more or less what you want to drive and yet with a motorbike its another test to drive a different size bike

British business is filthy, this is nothing compared to what I've seen where hundreds of millions of pounds go missing and millions more go to administrators that have a mission to make sure the administration does not end while there is still money and assets to strip. Seriously, much British business is simply criminality with a shine on it.

Another chain buying up local dealers and then folding. So places like Cwmbran and Glos will likely lose franchises/brands and these will either be slow to return or not come back at all. I bet the directors will make sure their prospects aren't dented.

Completely motorbikes there website is still up and running also they are taking phone calls as have spoken to them today they told me that they have gone into administration and are not taking any new orders at this time but are dealing with the orders that have been placed as for your advice to go and remove your bike well good luck with that other than breaking in removing your bike would be very unlikely

Lots of retail struggling, not just motorbikes. Look at the boarded up shops on high streets, the boarded up pubs, the factory units to rent. The people of the UK feel miserable, there doesn`t appear to be any light at the end of the tunnel, just more and more taxes, with ever declining infrastructure and services. The governments will continue to massage figures to make it all look rosy.

There's a RE dealership in south London called Hartgate which recently dramatically downsized from a four-unit spread on Upper Green East, Mitcham, to just one unit on the same parade. Sign is much cruder as well. Anyone know the story? The website doesn't mention it, still showing the old address and photos of the old frontage.

The walls are closing in on those using credit. Bikes are way too expensive. No need for fancy electronics….. buy a good bike for 5K used, and ride it …. You can get some great bikes for 5K from 90s and 2000s. Spending over 12k is mad, it’s still 12K !!!!

Demographics is playing a part, when I go to bike meets the big expensive stuff is mostly owned by guys in their mid-50s and upwards,me included. Many of my long-term mates are now in their 60s and reluctantly giving up for reasons of health or because they're not prepared to take the risks of riding on the roads these days. Hitting a pothole on the apex of a corner recently certainly livened up my ride and I was more amazed to stay on than if I'd been thrown off.
Even small bikes for young riders are stupidly expensive to run and insure, back in the 1970's bikes were the cheap option and even the big bikes I rode were still cheaper to run than most cars, very far from the case now.
I had my latest bike stolen last week, cretin tried to hotwire a Honda fitted with HISS then just left it parked up.........with enough damage to the wiring, steering lock and ignition barrel to write it off, and that's a 4 grand bike that from a couple of yards away still looked new. I'd already cut my riding right down after 45 years of having bikes as my only transport, basically some clown who will get a slap on the wrist in the unlikely event he's ever caught has trashed something I enjoyed and looked after.......and I really can't be bothered any more,my insurance will go through the roof ,it's stupidly expensive to maintain and run a bike these days,I've had bad roads almost have me off too often recently, driving standards are appalling and if I do replace my bike the only place I have to keep it is where the other one was lifted from and I've just proved to me that the police have more important things to do than worry about a failed bike theft.

I'm 22 and gained my A2 when I was 20.

It cost a fortune to get my license, had to travel way further to a test centre that did bike tests and spent thousands on insurance and thousands on the bike (MT-07).

You're talking well over £10K + the bikes restricted so not even full power.

A2 has killed the industry because young people aren't getting there license this also means there's less youngens working in the trade whether it be sales or a mechanic.

I don't doubt the trading group in question wasn't over leveraged on debt trying to clammer there way out of it but as a whole the industry is shrinking not to mention other factors like Theft and soaring insurance costs...

2024 Transalp 750 including $600 shipping, $850 tax, out the door cost $11,400. I read that in UK out the door cost was £13,799 or $15,096. Insurance all lability, comprehensive, theft, fire, etc. annually $249.

The main bike manufacturers have missed the markets demands, who the hell can use 200bhp and ride a 1250Gs to its full potential on Uk roads, just study the market, the public who ride now are an aged base. The dealers are full of Gs style bikes no one wants them, the bikers are looking for usable fun bikes, just look at next years new models lots of retro. The dealerships have been fed a poor bike base for years. The manufacturers have got it wrong and not listened to the riders and dealerships.

I'm in the motorcycle trade and it's tough at the moment. I think we'll see a lot of bigger setups for both bikes, parts, clothing and accessories going. Most of the manufacturers don't help either. They often demand big, glossy, single branded showrooms which are kitted out exactly as they want, but it's all at the dealers expense and risk. The margins are really poor, stocking plans cost a lot unless you can turn the bike over within a month, and now most people are feeling the pinch so sales have massively slowed down. Parts are often the bread and butter, but even that side is slow.

Keep reading 'feel sorry for the employees who lost their jobs...' These the same employees that took money under very suss terms. The same employees that booked in bikes for a service, not ordering the parts. The same employees that saw money in, but less and less going out. Those employees? That's a lot of blind employees.

More in general: I have not been in a dealership for years. If you have to live on a modest budget there is nothing to find there. Spares for older bikes? Repairs for non-rediculous prices? The last time I brought a bike in for a major repair the selfproclaimed “specialist” made me pay Eu 200 for confirming a cause which I had already predicted. Actually doing something about It for a decent price wasn’t even within his skill set. So one actually has to become a sort of qualified mechanic oneself to keep ones bike(s) rolling. Add to this the many stories about bubble gum cam shafts and self igniting bikes one can only come to one conclusion: The whole industry is sick. Worse still. The Western worlds productivity has become so low that things are starting to correct themselves by default. Literaly!

Look at any motorcycle shop / dealership far too many bikes with cob- webs flat batteries been there 6/12 months. NO BUYERS ..BUT..STILL SAME PRICE TICKET.

I really hope it’s not the case but it does leave a bad taste. I hope for their sakes they didn’t know what was going on and they find other jobs soon.

I ride around South West Scotland where I live, and there are many bikers spots and cafes…my main observation is that it looks like Gods waiting room! Hardly any young riders, mainly guys in their late 40s, many are obviously 50s or older, very rarely do you see riders in their 30s. (I’m 63 so this is not ageism lol). Therein lies the problem, it’s the demographic. Very few new riders starting, and an increasingly older (and diminishing) rider base means sales are going to just keep dropping off.

Old saying greedy u get the further u going fall this company has collapsed like dominoes effect that has affected everyone rather just section of a buisness.
Also when I bought a bike in past I always do HP as u own bike from the beginning as opposed to so many do PCP where dealers lease u the bike all those people have PCP be really worried now as liquidator now owns your bike.
