I live in Maine and as of 2019 Hedgehogs are no longer Illegal to own. They're just a bitch to find anywhere in stores and cost a pretty penny.

My neighbor (apartment) had a hedgehog it helped with his ant problem shed a tiny bit but he was a nightowl and worked during the day and gave it free roam of his apartment (safely of course) plus it was a babe magnet. I thought it was cool too. Expensive but cool but I live in a state were you can own almost ANY pet and I mean ANY Big Cats, Bears Chimps one of the VERY few states. My tastes I'm thinking about a Sloth or Koala.

let me slap some big brain knowledge 1 penguins are actually legal in a lot of states including the follow- Colorado, Georgia, Kansas, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Vermont, and Virginia, so no actually you are wrong also yes you do have to go through A LOT of paper work but, its 1 not in the wild they have to be from a facility that they were born from and I ACTUALLY DID MY RESEARCH UNLIKE YOU GUYS LITERALLY JUST LOOK UP CAN YOU HAVE A PENGUIN IN THE USA! I have sugar gliders, And a few reasons why these are illegal is they require a lot of space, A lot of time, and quite a bit of money. You also need to own atleast two, Or they can get very sick or die.

Venomous snakes would have taken #1 if on the list. Only reason they aren't is because of the MANY Exotic snake loopholes in the bylaws of the U.S and Canada. On the official website of Ontario for example, Anyone can own a snake as long as it doesn't exceed 6 - 8 feet. This means, small Vipers, Rattlesnakes, Taipans, and even certain Cobras, are ALL LEGAL in Canada, and might not even require a permit. I, despite adoring venomous snakes, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECCOMEND one of the listed species as a pet. Even if you survive a bite, you are looking at 10,000$ + for medical bills. Take your time to look at them in the zoo, and not worry about them in the ER.

You need a permet to have a fox in the us all you need is $8000 and get approval from Kay Fedewa, the exclusive importer of domesticated foxes and you will need to find a vet that handles foxes I did the extra research on owning a fox

I had a pet skunk as a child and she was really sweet.

I own a 6 month old male mac and just took over my friends 1 month old male macaque. I had mine since it was 2.5 weeks old and it’s literally one of the best pets that I’ve owned. The other one, not so much but he’s getting better the more it’s trained. It’s legal in my state!

Hang a bat house under the eves and you will eventually have bats to watch. We have Mexican free tail.
Put out some crunchy dry maggots and skunks will flock to your yard. We love them. They don't have to be pets. Wild skunks get very comfortable with people, dogs and cats. Ours are very sweet.
Raccoons and opossums are always welcome here. As are all Hymenoptera.

Why would anyone want to own a wild animal that could kill you?

I am nocturnal so a hedgehog would not be a problem for me. I heard they can be a little difficult though.

If you want any of these as a pet I heartily suggest you get to a doctor and get medication
