This reminds me of my past to be honest this songs in my eyes i think means a mother the sun and the daughter the moon the daughter getting hurt by the mother and the daughter planing to escape the abuse of her mother but she still longs for her mom

This is hyper-specific but honestly listening to this I keep thinking about my Vampires: The Masquerade character, who was turned against their will when their sire was in a frenzy. Not his fault and he did his best to be a good vampire dad, but he did still end up basically destroying their life.

They loved him and resented him in equal measure.

Why is it that the songs that sing such beautiful lyrics are the ones which get the least attention?

I’ve been through one.

They called me fat pig as a “joke” and did something that hurt me and said it was a “dare.” They also blamed me for everything they did, when I said “this won’t work”, they will act all innocent and start begging me to come back.

This song makes me think of the identity dysphoria that comes with a bad childhood. It's like when you just start thinking you are how you want to be, the trauma and pain comes flooding back. It's makes you really think about how different, happier, and better overall as a person you could've been. It feels like youve been robbed of what suppose to make you yourself.

I see this song similar to my past

When I was 13 I was the apple of my principal’s eye. I was his favorite student. I went to a small school at the time and I was one of his best kids.

All I did in that school was to impress him and the other teachers. But he was extremely abusive to me and my other classmates, but since I was homeschooled up until that point, I didn’t know that it was abuse and I just thought it of just tough love. He’s call us lazy and that we needed to shut up. He also used religion to scare us into being “good” kids.


I won’t go into much detail here as it’s extremely stressing, but I once wrote to him about my issues within the school and he screamed at me for what felt like hours. I held in my tears throughout the entire day.


A year later I realized how extremely abusive he was and how I actually had severe PTSD. I left the school for good and now I’m doing online schooling. The verse “I shine only with the light you gave me” was literally how I was then. I only was happy because I was treated as special.

He’d call me pet names and tell me how I reminded him of his wife(which is borderline ped0philic to compare a minor to your wife multiple times.) I only shone with the light of his lovebombing for a year and a half. But I escaped and I’m in therapy, learning how to shine my own light and survive without someone feeding me sweet nothings.

My interpretation of the song was that there was a couple, not an abusive relationship
But, I think the person (the moon) was somewhat depressed or stressed because of office problems, family problems, and any problems. But he\she had a lover which is the sun. The sun was the only reason why the moon lived like the moon was emotionally dependent on the sun. It's like the moon can't live without the sun.

The moon (the prince/princess) looked up to their royal parent like the sun. But slowly they have realised how corrupt and feared they are and they don't know what to do.

I added this song to my dnd character playlist however my interpretation and part of the backstory I used this for was this.

My character, a wood elf, fell in love with a drow. My wood elf had always lived a life being responsible for others, being taking for granted, and was secretly a pessimistic person because of how they have always been treated. When they met their drow lover it was when they had finally made the leap to do things for themselves and journey around with their mentor. The drow lover absolutely fascinated them as they were strong, yes, (important since my character was a fighter) but were also sweet, sincere, sentimental and a idealistic optimist. My wood elf was enamored and the two hit off and spent many years together before the tragedy happened. The pair were attacked by a remorhaz and their drow lover sacrificed themselves to protect my wood elf. The remorhaz was cut down by my character and their lover’s body was extracted and my wood elf tried to return their lover to the brother. The brother immediately accused my character of being at fault for the death of their sibling and declared a feud on them. My wood elf agreed to that sentiment, believing they deserved the hatred. But now my wood elf was alone, no lover, no friend (the brother of the lover), and a toxic family they couldn’t turn to. They had already had horrible argument with their mentor and led to them falling out too.

So this song? It represents all the hurt, grief, and even resentment my character felt towards their lover while still understanding how deeply they meant to them, loving them, but not able to move on. Just drifting from day to day, trying to be better, trying to see the world as their lover once did, so something of their legacy remains, but still at a loss. They love their lover but also resentment for making a choice for them (protecting them) and leaving them alone, without the life they wished for (to live together for the rest of their lives) but still unable to see beyond that old dream and love. Their lover was their sun, and my character saw themself as the moon, reflecting the legacy of their beloved and all the good they saw in them.

That was my interpretation of this song.

I always interpreted this as a child who had a neglectful and/or overbearing parent (yes you can have both at once)

To me, it reminds me of how I'm changing myself for the better, little by little, because of my girlfriend. She's the kindest, funniest person I've ever met, and when I make decisions, I now think what she would have done. How would she react if I said that rude thing to someone, how would she react if I did that? It's not in an unhealthy way, I just stop and consider what I'm going to do. Also, she absolutely humbled me in the card game Cat Lady. She completely and utterly crushed me in that. Shoutout to you, Luna! <3

This song fits with so many things, you can interpret it as song about someone realizing that they were being used by their close friend and/or lover, you can interpret it as a song about siblings that care about eachother but were never allowed to show it, you can interpret it as a song about a person who is only viewed as another person's legacy, you can interpret it as a song about a child realising that their parent was a horrible person, you can interpret it as a song about a person who's realising that their parent was actually abusive, etc etc
