Once again - Top notch production, presentation & history preservation. I particularly enjoy your calm, undramatic, naration technique.
Thank you for the many in depth and even handed presentations!

There is also Pomier-Layrargues shooting down Werner Moelders near Beauvais, June 5, 1940. A tragic victory, as the french pilot was shot down in flames a few minutes later.

Amazing to see the Hawk! I would love to see you do a video featuring Vichy Hawks vs USN Wildcats during Torch or even more obscure Thai flown Hawks vs French & later the US.

Is it true that the German losses on the first day of the battle on the western front on May 10, 1940 were about 250 planes, which were the German losses in the entire Polish campaign?

Mölders was finally shot down by sous-lieutenant Pommier-Leyrargues (aged 19, in his first and last combat) on a Dewoitine 520. WM was made prisoner.

Very good vid. The Hawk was a good match for the 109D, the earlier jumo engined model. In November 21 109D's jumped 9 Hawks, the French pilots shot down 4 Germans and 4 others force or crash landed. One Hawk force landed. When well flown the Curtiss 75 could be quite dangerous.

The phony war did have ground movement and action. There were about 2700 total casualties during the Saar offensive, which had just started the day before this action took place.

Excellent
French fighters were hindered by their poor 3-ships tactics, but German pilots were not as ready in late 1939 as they will be in spring 40, unfortunately…
Yes as a French viewer, I’m very interested by any videos involving French air forces

The military leadership was forced into that ‘mindset’ in great part because ppl then were swept by the blind promises of peace on the continent, after the trauma of WWI. Even Chamberlain went to great length to appease Hitler for the exact reasons. I am not a warmonger, however frame your ideas properly.

Thank you @Showtime112, the air battle of France is fascinating and was, in some ways, a rare early success for the Allies. While the Luftwaffe was victorious, it suffered enough losses and lost time to make its job over Britain that much more difficult.

And if you really plan on covering more action that occured during the Phoney War, I think the famous "9 vs 27" dogfight that took place on 1939, november 6th will be mandatory. 😉

I've studied the Battle of France in 1940 and one little known fact is that the professional French military actually was quite successful against the Germans. The problem was lack of successful doctrine and constant political in fighting amongst the French command structure.

Very good looks like those curtis Hawks could dance the boogie woogie, slower and less of a climber/ diver than the bf 109 but the hawk could do the two step and all the other steps combined to avoid the hot pointy stuff! 😂🤪👍

Are there some notable ms.406 vs bf109 fight ?
I heard a french veteran talking about an engagement betwen a d520 and a formation of german bomber and their escort.
Apparently the d520 could both roll and dive faster than the bf-109

I’m very glad to see finally some videos showing the airfight during the campaign of France in 1940 ! My grandfather was a bomber pilot in 1940 when France surrendered in June 1940 he quickly joined the free French forces and in North Africa served again as a bomber pilot in 1941 until 1945.
I still have his photos album from this period.

Could be great to hear more about the “Normandie Niemen” it’s an impressive story to tell too.

The least documented chapter of WW2 is the action of the Armee de L' Air action in 1940. The Luftwaffe lost 740 aircraft in the invasion and more than 140 experienced pilots. Göring was devastated and hid it from Hitler. Lots of Luftwaffe pilots mentioned it in personal memoirs. The reason the battle of Britain failed for Hitler is the blow the Luftwaffe got in the battle of France. Many French pilots went to the Soviet union later and flew in the Red Air force. The cold war later with the West prevented their stories to be told. Recently some families of these pilots were honoured by Russia.
