I wonder, for exhaust, why not always use the higher lobe? I do understand the explanation of using VTEC on the intake valves, but on exhaust you could always use a high lift right? It just doesn't make sense to not get rid of all exhaust gasses during low rpm.

Great video! Curious as to why not have vtec on the intake too even with a turbo? Just that little bit more opening to push the air in easier? So even when the turbo isn’t creating a ton of boost can still push air in with less pressure. Is it due to simplifying the engine for less moving parts or to minimize cost?

Was wondering if they could just have that more lift permanently on that exhaust flow since gasses coming out of them are already combusted and would not require more fuel?

So is the intake already higher? Is that why it doesn't have the vtec to switch between lower and higher?

Unless the engine is desmodromic, the cam-shaft does not close the valves; springs do.

Damn, it was not so high tech as I believed. Belief again is bad. As it was when I understood that I was an adult with my own brain and not as part of a bigger mechanism, like church. Thank you Jason! Deep bow towards your attention to detail, your patience and friendliness. These are not exclusive. Cheers!
P.S. You and Brian Cox are my inspiration to technology. And I confused you both for a while.
Thank yo anyways!

I have a 2010 civic 1.8l that jerks at speeds over 50mph when vtech turns off(live stream scan tool). It only does it when i'm barely pressing on or off the pedal. Could this be a throttle body issue?

I have never seen an explanation on how the pin that locks the lifters together doesn’t shear. They’re both moving at different speeds and you have a solid steel pin that shoots out into a blind hole? Why doesn’t it snap the end of the pin off?

What is the source of oil pressure that lift the middle lobes.
what if vtec solenoid is on all the time. What is the consequence, is it bad, good for engine.
Thanks

so is it only the oil psi when it gets to a certain point that enables/disable this? or is there a computer controlled valve or solenoid also? if no other control, then wouldn't changing the oil weight then effect psi at different rpms?
