What a beautiful video Ashlynne! I’m amazed that you have such incredibly beautiful pieces with a long life already at such a young age, and Christopher’s artwork is incredible! At twice your age and now a retired teacher, I have a treasure box of family memories and teaching mementos. I also have photo albums going back to great grandparents ❤ although that pic of you in red with the ladybug umbrella is priceless! I also have an embossed bible given to me from my Mother in love on my wedding day. I’m not a great chef, but I have some long standing items and sentimental things there too. My dad and my husband were carpenters at heart so I have some precious pieces from them. I could go on and on…❤😊

I've had my KitchenAid stand mixer and the stainless steel measuring cups I got at Costco for more then 20 years. There's a stuffed leopard that I've had since I was a baby so over 50 years, a stool my grandfather made for me that's probably in the 45 to 50 year mark as well. And, the copy of Anne Frank's diary my mom bought me when I was 9 and we were visited the secret annex.

I love the wood chest that Christopher made for you. I believe they have “no slam”hinges or something of that nature, that you can install so that there’s no chance of it closing down on Oliver one day.

For shoes, I have shoes from Adelisa & Co that I've had for years and years. I recently added a Nisolo pair of boots and flats and a pair of Thursday boots. I do have some leather boots that I've had for about 10 years, but the insides are disintegrating 😅

I do have a coat that I've had for 20 years now, and still looks new because I only wear it in the snow (which is not frequent here!).

Not a minimalist yet ☺️ but decluttering and trying to get there 🍀🫶🏼 There are so many things I’ve owned for years! From an at least 25 y.o jeans jacket that my 22 y.o daughter now wears, to furniture, pans, cutlery, books and a fan that still works since I was in college about 30 yrs ago ☺️. I know the microwave from college still works bc it’s been passed on by a friend 😂

I LOVED this video Ashlynne! One of my favorite items that I own is my $6.99 old sewing cabinet that I thrifted when I moved into my own home. It serves as my nightstand. It smells old. Has water stains. The cutest rattan front. I can just imagine all of the sewing projects that it has seen. I'm keeping it forever and just so in love with it!

I'm so excited for Oliver that his dad is so talented and that you are displayed his artwork! My dad plays the guitar and used to paint; we had his paintings all over the living room and entryway, and my favourite memories despite our troubled relationship is listening to him play the guitar. He'd play on the couch and I'd sit there and watch him. Lots of wonderful memories coming up for Oliver!!
As for items I've had for years, the most used is definitively my Kanken backpack. It has been with me for 10 years and counting, to university, the USA, Japan, all over Europe! I also wear my mother's old nightshirts from when she was pregnant with my sister back in 1985, and she also kindly gave me a wooden chest of drawers that she received from her mother when she first had my sister 39 years ago. It currently sits in my entryway and holds our tote bags, my running gear and beanies and scarves. Sentimental items are the best!

My favorite quality purchase is my Leaf razor. Best razor I’ve ever owned. And it’s beautiful, I got the gold chrome version and anyone who sees it wants one. Also so much easier for to use than a traditional safety razor, especially as a woman. I know because I used one for years before Leaf had a kickstarter, but it’s just as good for the planet. I love that it’s a lifetime purchase, and they will repair or replace it if it ever breaks. It’s completely plastic free, and you can use traditional double edged razor blades from any brand. I can buy 200 blades for the price of four disposable razor heads. They don’t force you into a subscription just to use their product. I recently bought their micro blading tool as well. It uses the same blades I already buy for my razor. I’m not affiliated with them in any way. I just think more women should buy it and have one quality razor for the rest of their lives.

Love all of these! Believe it or not my oldest possession that I still use often is a fleece robe my grandmother bought me when I was 9 years old. She got a super large size that dragged on the floor when I was a lot younger but fit perfectly as I grew up. She’s been gone now but I have so many memories of wearing it as a child on a sick day from school to most recently having it on when I found out I was pregnant 🥲 I’ve had it for over 25 years and it’s basically an heirloom at this point!

I have a basic dark green Land's End cashmere cardigan I purchased around the year 2000, that I still wear. It was in storage for some period of time, but it's still in great condition, and it's perfect in the winter. Most of my clothes last longer than expected. At home, I wear my old/not-to-be-seen-outside Tshirts and bottoms, which keeps all my other clothes nice for a long time. I had a pair of jeans for 20 years that got a lot of usage; I lost a bunch of weight and donated those jeans. Donated a LOT of clothes in the last 20 months as I lost 6 sizes! I have a Vitamix I purchased in 1994 (I need to sell it, since I replaced it with a newer model). I've had my Instant Pot for 9 years, cookware for 2 decades, plates I purchased in 1994. So many things!

Arent they confusing minimalist with conservative? Speaking for myself, I am not a minimalist but I do conserve some when needed to. Doesnt seem right to keep showing decluttering videos every day. That is more of a seasonal thing to do.

That tradescantia is very nice and a variety I haven't seen. I believe it may be a tradescantia fluminensis. I have a variegated one but yours is a nice dark green with the characteristic beautiful purple undersides. Houseplants make great and inexpensive gifts for people, friends and co-workers. You can root them in cute containers like soda cans with the tops removed with one of those special can openers that leaves a blunt edge. Or soup cans, yogurt cups etc. Or you can get inexpensive small pots at the dollar tree. One of my favorite things to gift others.

Thank you so much for this, Ashley! What a mindset shift! I've always gone with cheap and multiple. The idea of, even for gifts, using our money for things which won't need replacing means better things for everyone and no one has to spend more time or money shopping! I can only imagine what I could do with the money we save from not continually shopping and replacing cheap stuff! This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear! And how cool about your husband's art--spectacular!
